Xbox 360 slim hardware thread

Well tell that to my HDTV, HD receiver, and other toys I've bought purely through those 1 USD and 2 USD savings devices. And with money to spare to throw into savings. :D I keep a budget at home so I can track where I'm saving and what I'm saving it on.

My most disappointing experience so far has to be CCFLs though. I've lost a ton of money on that compared to incandescents. :( So back to incandescents until CCFLs come down further in price or until Obama manages to ban the cheaper and more cost effective Incandescents. But again, going way off topic. Will leave you with the last response if you like. :) I'll go back to the regularly scheduled topic. :D

Do your drive 5 miles to save 2 cents a gallon on gas? Just checking :D

Heh, only if it isn't out of the way of someplace I have to go to anyways. For examle, there's a gas station 20 miles away that is cheaper and that I use frequently. BUT, it's on the same road that goes to the family ranch (25 miles away) which I visit every other week during slow season and more often when they need my help. :)

Bah, you made a fibber out of me, that is the absolute last reply on that subject in this thread from me. :D

Picked mine up. This thing is awesome. Very nice looking. Quiet as can be. Did I mention very aesthetically pleasing.

yay for gamestop computers messing up, manual overrides and a edge card :)

Very jealous here...I just dropped $50 to reserve mine. Apparently, they got a "few", but promptly sold out.

Ended up picking 3 PS3 games utilizing the 2 for 1 sale--I needed my gaming fix. I need to decide what to pick up when I get my new X360. Alan Wake or the new Super SFIV.

BTW, can you confirm if it has the 512MB of built in flash memory?

Did the trade in upgrade. I'm really happy. Since I sit so close to the xbox, the noise could be really irritating and I only had a 20GB drive, so I couldn't really do much for game installs. The fan is dead silent. When you turn this thing on, you don't hear anything. It's very similar to the PS3 that way. The PS3 drive is still quieter, but the DVD drive on this 360 is much quieter than my other unit. They even did a pretty nice job with the packaging.

One thing I really don't understand is why Alan Wake makes my disc drive twice as loud as any other game? It did that with my old console and it does that with the slim. It just sounds incredibly loud compared to any other game. There must be something wrong with my disc, but I don't understand what it would be. Doesn't matter if you're playing off the disc or installing. I am installing so I'll never have to hear it again ;) Just staying ready for the DLC.

Nah, they wouldn't take the dead 360. Going to have to recycle it.

If your disc is very slightly unbalanced, it'll vibrate very slightly while spinning which will make it very loud. I have 1 or 2 PC game discs like that.

Since the internal WiFi is just using a USB connector, I'm sure you could probably mod the adapter to fit inside.

Either way, still not something I'd ever use myself.

It's probably the balance of the disc like SB said. I've been reading a lot of reports that these units suffer from the same problems (if you want to call them that) as the previous models, in that there are no stability bumpers in the DVD drives to prevent wobble. It can be dangerous if the disc has too much vibration as it can cause damage to the disc.

Anyway, here's a question: If I trade up, how does the DRM work for my downloaded content? Will I have to be online to play any of it?

RobertR1 linked to it a few post above. You have to transfer the licenses to the new box and then redownload the games I think.

Wireless does not support 5GHz. So if you want to keep 5GHz, you'll still have to get the adapter.
Are the attachment holes for the wifi dongle hooks still present on the slim console? I wouldn't want the adapter just dangling from its USB connector, that'd look horrible. I suppose one could use a USB extension cord to just stick the thing out of place somewhere, but that's still also not an ideal solution. I prefer things to be nice and tidy. :)

Regarding unbalanced discs, and the dangers thereof... Most plastic discs seem to be unbalanced to some degree - some more than others. I would think the drive itself would spin down the disc before this actually becomes a problem though, as too much vibration would make it impossible for the laser to track properly...

slight OT, but how much do you think I should sell my good functioning 20GB Original (w/1 controller) for?

There are no trade-ins in Singapore yet and a friend incidentally wants an Xbox for FIFA.. don't really want to profit off him, just want an agreeable price.

I doubt it's worth even $100...
