You're overthinking it way to much. This is simply a very good indication of the most anticipated titles in japan, and BD is #8. As simple as that.
I'm not overthinking anything. You said that hundreds of thousands of people voted for BD on the Famitsu poll. I asked where you got those figures from. Truth is hundreds of thousands didn't vote. Very few people did. So looking at this poll from an understanding of statistics, we can see it's not meaningful. That isn't to say it's not representative, nor that there will be no demand for BD and XB360, but that from scientific analysis, which is what statistics are all about, there is negligable info to be gleaned from this poll. That is, position in this poll does not give any indication of how many people will buy the software, whereas your point was presence is this poll DOES guarentee, or at least indiciate, there'll be lots of sales (millions, by your reckoning). Maybe there will be millions sold, but this poll doesn't prove it.

I haven't argued over XB360's success or failure. I'm arguing against your logic. Citing this poll as proof of your theory is scientifically, logically, rationally flawed.

I don't see how a game can rank so high, in the most popular game magazine in japan, in a poll that is otherwise DOMINATED by nintendo and sony, and not have at least millions of gamers throughout the country looking forward to said game.
Which shows you don't understand the limitations of an unqualified poll, nor the point of my argument.

Interesting how RR6 is the best selling 360 game in JP. Considering it was on the charts as the worst selling 360 game in the US.

43. (X360, Namco) Ridge Racer 6 - 38,756 / new

Also interesting how they sold more 360 hardware than software. 72,334 games vs 81,770 units. What is everyone doing? Playing the bundled Final Fantasy? Playing xbox1 games?

Ineffecient I think yes they might be playing older games. Games maybe like JE who knows. My only complaint about this is that its pretty much a known that MS was hoping DOA 4 would be a launch title. It wasnt and the numbers show that it probably did hurt MS alot being delayed from launch. I think although at this time MS hasnt shown to be able to really gain ground in Japan I wouldnt say the 360 will be a failure now. MS has games in the pipleline (Like BD and LO) that people are aware of (and some probably being discussed as we speak). MS has already shown they are pushing (and Paying) to get more japanese developers on board for the Xbox 360.

I believe I read somewhere that MS didnt expect to overtake Sony this generation only to chip away at their userbase, be profitable, and hopefully be within striking distance once the next generation (X3 PS4) comes to light. They have shown they are able to gain ground in the US but Japan as we all know is a different set of challenges all its own. Japan from their gaming preference (RPG vs FPS) to their loyalty to their native brand all plays large roles. MS has to overcome more then I think people really realize and its not just games but Japans culture relating to games.

Generation wise MS hasn't offically gained ground against Sony yet with their next-gen machine, because Sony hasn't released anything yet.

Brand

I used numbers from other post below to show 1 month brand success comparison. Nintendo has large domination, no?

Hardware

Nintendo: 1,666,132 (69% of total)
Sony: 655,762 (39% of leader) (27% of total)
Microsoft: 82,318 (5% of leader) (3.4% of total)

Software (from top 100)

Nintendo: 5,368,666 (57% of total)
Sony: 3,928,897 (73% of leader) (42% of total)
Microsoft: 72,334 (1.3% of leader) (>1% of total)

Live arcade.

So Xbox 360 is at almost a hundred thousand in less than a month? DOA and RR6 are both on their way to selling 100k a piece... so would you guys consider this a small success or no?

Wow, you expect it to be released in 2007 then? ;)
All confirmed launch games :p
Along with Fatal Inertia, and an "Unknown" Bandai title. And thats just whats being announced. PS3's launch should be much better than Xbox360, best NA launch ever a strong possibility ;)

This month. Yearly its closer in hardware, Sony in software.

But Nintendo did have a lot of great hits all year round for DS. Especially in December.

First of all that Xbox 360 total along with the other totals are a tad bit higher than it should be. But even at the total they are now no it is not a success yet. Not even small.

Huh? And how do you know this?
Almost at a hundred-thousand where reports are at 60k-80k depending on which tracker you believe.

DoA4 has a ways to go to 100k, and RR6 may not ever reach it.

Based on what we've seen of fatal intertia so far, i'm not sure that helps your argument. :)

The PC verison in the works or the video that the final game is supposed to look like? Which Fatal Intertia are you talking about.

Well there's video where they show it running in real-time (actually being played) that doesn't look good at all; then there's a couple of videos that show what the final game should be like. The videos that show the (supposed) final game look pretty decent. Nice flying ship models and some of the best looking physics based looking water ever. Not to bad for a launch title.

That's my point: if it's a launch game, expect it to get rushed quite a bit... unless they delay the launch considerably.

Well, (and this goes for everyone) the disparity between concept renders, in-engine cutscenes, flat-out prerendered movies, and what was had ended up being actually playable has been quite large to this point. Not sure why we should give this game any additional benefit of the doubt that it can go from 'ugly duckling' to 'swan' by spring 2006. This looks like an average current gen game doesnt it?

It can be the Amped3 of the PS3 launch :p

I will say about Fatal Inertia, technically it looks ok (from screens anyway), next-gen, but its so fucking ugly its not funny.

Thats why I didn't mention it in the first post, which was games with AAA potential. Announced launch games only. Theres more unannounced (like theres potential for titles to slip as well).

Wip3out at PS3 launch would be godly.

Well...they will have had final kits for a lot longer than Xbox360 developers had final kits, so I don't expect them that rushed. Plus they're all developers with some serious pedigree. I also forgot to mention Lair, which if nothing else will provide the best eye-candy available at the time.
