xbox 360 confirmed pricing

Hey analysts can be right, analysts can be wrong - I still think that $494 number is total BS. ;)

Anyway on the larger subject... I don't know... what is there to say? I think Microsoft should have played to their 'hardcore' strengths and expanded from there. Instead, they seem to be doing the opposite - offering something for everybody, but taking away some of the key components that got them their fan base to begin with. Like I said in my previous post, I think this new system will have serious $$$ potential for Microsoft, probably emliminating hardware losses entirely after one or two 'insane peripheral' purchases, but I think this opens the door to serious mindshare damage on their part. I can see Sony's TGS showing now: "With WiFi standard, all wireless rechargeable controllers, and a next generation optical drive..." This among whatever other pushes they would have done.

Yeah, now we wait for TGS and see how Sony plays on this. I love this business chess match crap. MS left there body open and Sony can go in for the body blow. I wonder if they had thought they would get a good reaction from this pricing news. The bombshell at TGS HAS to be HD-DVD...I mean..what else do they have to reveal that can be considered big?

So people are disappointed by the pricing but you do get a lot of HW value at $399.

What it's going to come down to is the games. If I'm paying a higher price at launch than the traditional $299 price, there has to be some compelling content.

For me, the sports games have to really offer something beyond what I have now. With HDTV resolutions and next-gen graphics, they'd be a good start. But they better offer online play at 720p (not downrez for online mode) and have good framerate. Already, Madden 2006 on the PS2 is suffering slowdown, maybe from that damn Vision cone. :D

Beyond sports games, I have no interest in any of the shooter games. So Gears of War or Halo 3 wouldn't do anything for me. Maybe Kameo, maybe some action games or two. AOE3 with keyboard and mouse support would be a killer draw for a lot of PC gamers. But neither an AOE3 port or K/M support for games is forthcoming.

So we'll see if games look better in the next 3 months. I guess TGS will give a good indication of how the launch games will perform.

If its a wireless bridge..them MS is trying to get away with murder with the $99.99 price tag for the Wi-Fi adapter. I've seen bridges for around $30....

If you've found a decent wireless g bridge for under say... $70, please link me. They generally seem to be around $100 retail.

Interesting poll at teamxbox right now:

Which system would you buy?

Premium Edition - 293 Votes 76%
Core Edition - 10 Votes 2.6%
Not Buying - 82 Votes 21.3%

That's not really interresting, it only proves that when asked, the core market (enthusiasts), is ready to pay any admission price to the latest product.

I imagine a lot of existing XB owners will want the BC, and probably a large contingent of TeamXB visitors are more hardcore gamers interested in Live!.

It is very interesting to see some many people how dont mind pay almost 500 to play 1 game, this holliday.

Even more seing that they will spend the equivalent to 100 in a thingh that will never have the proper use (HDD)

And if they want splint screnn that will go a lot more of money too, and their lve experince will be ruined because one of tha main feature of gaming on live (talking) is ot today.

The simples existence of a versin without HDD and headset, take a lot of value of those 400, because if all versions are HDD+headset (even at 400) would be much more used, now they are much less than they are before.

And there is a lot of people that now have to pay the same for less value and even if there are 70% of sales from the 400 and there is a few games that use it there are a lot of less potential costmers.

I am glade I have not preorder, XB had just lost a lot of their value, now it is better nitendo do things right, once tat for most costumers(no HD) they now could offer the same as the others at a really good price.

I though 2.6% was interesting. Extremely low percentage are looking at the core. Even on teamxbox I woud've expected in the 10-15% region.

Besides, are you the authority on what's interesting and what's not?

24% of you so called "core audience" isn't even buying a 360 at all.

Um... you get the headset as part of the Xbox Live starter kit, don't you? That said, I don't even use mine. Its kinda annoying, but maybe thats because I mainly play racers on live.

I really dont understand the picing of the peripherals, like someone said, add up 2 or 3 peripherals and you're nearly at the cost of the entire console.

I can see ffering 2 versions, but don't completely RAPE the people wh buy the lower version. Obviously it's major upsell going on here, the low package is meant to force pretty much everyone to buy the more expensive one, while still leaving the option open.

But don't price the peripherals out of reach. When I read the other day about MS licensing fees on peripherals I didn't care...now it makes MUCH more sense. Greedy bastards.

I was just thinking about the non-standard HDD. If Bethseda (sp?) kept Oblivion PC and X360 exclusive because of 'the hard drive', do you think the developers were 'left in the dark'? The quote of the moment was Allard (I believe) saying that developers shouldn't bank on the HDD being there, but now developers can't 'bank' on anything, because it's probably not going to be there at all due to the Core System.

But now we can play live out of the box, and those how want a bit more of tatics in their online games (which corrent XB is the best to have), will have their experience ruined.

I thought it's interesting as 20% odd of xbox fans are not going to buy. Clearly none of them are idiots and will buy the 'cheap' version due to it's lack of features in longevity 'hidden' costs.

the premium is not only adding a hard drive, so people are not paying $100 extra just for the hard drive.

don't forget the trolls.

teamxbox isn't dominated by xbox fanbo-ys as much as some might think.

pc999 - the HD cables, wireless controller, headset and remote make the $100 almost worth it, then include the HDD on top and it's a pretty good deal (relatively)

V3 its not worth buying the standard .

With the standard u get

console
controller

with the preimum

console
component cable
wireless cable
headset
remote
backwards compat
hd content (wtf that means)

U factor in memory card price on the core package and your at 340$ and now backwards compat no compontent cable ...

Yeah I know, but $299 is as much as I wanted to pay for X360, since none of the game interest me so far, so mainly only getting it to complete my collection.

If they didn't gave me any choice, and only have the premium pack for $399 than I have no choice but get that, but they gave me a choice so I am going to use that to my advantage.

The only bit I am dissapointed is that they advertised X360 as HD console, but they didn't bundle the HD AV cable as standard in the $299 pack, that's just a joke to me.

Is that attitude? Cool...

Yes!
In fact, I'm the highest authority when it comes to what I think is interesting to me and what's not.

A lot of people were expecting a $299 price tag on the complete deal (HDD + Wireless pad, etc...), therefore some of the people answering this "internet poll" are probably in anger and/or are trying to send a message to MS executives (That they're disagreeing with this pricing policy).
