xbox 360 confirmed pricing

Wait, I'm assuming this is the thing you use to charge the wireless controller while you play. Is this NOT included in the $399 bundle? So in order to play and charge the wireless at the same time you have to buy one of these on top of the $399? OMG!

Oh that would totally suck. I'm hoping that $399 version encompases everything that I will need for High-Definition and keeping my Wireless controller alive. If not..then thats a jip..even if the HDD is there.

Wow... this isn't really... wow.

In order to play on XBox Live, the user of a 'Core System' (Genesis! WOOT!) would be forced to purchase either the HDD, at $99 US, or the memory card, at $40 US? If this is true, this could hurt the X360's appeal (except for the 'early adopters', of course).

You think theres going to be alot of mad customers that pre ordered jvd?

I would just tell the customer to shut up and get the $399 version...they won't regret it, after looking at the costs of all those peripherals

£23 for 64mb? PS3 definitely has the advantage there. I can grab a 128mb SD card for £10, 256 for £18, and prices will keep dropping. I can even get a 128 mb MemStick for £15. At the moment the PS3 is looking much more consumer friendly with no need for costly Wifi network adaptors and the like. Even if XB360 launches cheaper in the long run it's looking more expensive.

my boss got into work at 9am and we already got 2 cancels .... which is odd didn't think it would spread that fast .

The major problem is calling up all these people and telling them there are now two versions and having them come in and change the preorder . Its going to be a huge mess

I'm prob going to take off my 300$ today

So basically they want to sell a system (at LAUNCH no less) that's:

* capable of HD resolutions but not out of the box (as xbox1)
* equipped with a wired controller (as xbox1)
* not capable of saving games or custom soundtracks out of the box (worse than xbox1)

I don't have a good feeling with this after they touted those features so heavily.

I hadn't even considered the pre-order situation. What were they thinking? Pre-order on one spec (even if it isn't specifically mentioned) then the poor sob's who've taken the actual orders have to go throught the hassle of getting the exact details. Talk about p****** off not only the hardcore fans but the retailers too!

I still stand by my earlier "it isn't all bad" stance though.

This is either a brilliant move or a 'crash and burn' move (IMO)

Making the HDD non standard really seems to be a bad move, now developers will be reluctant to make HDD games therefore meaning games won't utilise one of X360s advantages over PS3 (or one the ******z keep going on about)

Having said that, at £210 I expect this to sell to mass market over the xmas period...and if MS can get off to a flying start (least we forget they have some good momentum going), then a lot of people who may have just waited for PS3 will instead get the base X360, and should they like it upgrade rather than go PS3.

I think hats off to MS for trying somthing bold...but it could backfire

I was harassed for saying that before, but the memory card situation on the PS3 is not a big deal. The HDD and BD arguments were blown out of proportion. Their importance to the gen was way overplayed. Neither system needs either an HDD or a new drive to compete. But the pricing is still ridiculous IMO. Inflation should be gradual. This is a 30% bump in price, basically. The core system just isn't cutting it. And prices are up to NES/SNES levels all across the board. Those periph prices are a load of bull. I can't believe the price for a 20GB drive and a wireless adapter. Even street prices won't make them good buys. :(

But if you really like Live, you can just get the core system and a 3rd party card and be fine. PEACE.

Although JvD may be able to confirm the situation over there but its not always the case that pre-orders start with official direction from the manufacturer, but the action taken by the outlet chain itself based on their own information. Over in the UK retailers such as "Game" haven't been taking any preorder because they don't know the specifications, what will be offered and th pricings - its now that I think pre-orders will actually kick off over here.

I find this quite amusing though - people in my office that I know are looking forward to XBOX 360 are sitting rubbing their hads with glee at the UK price!

Most average customers probably wont even miss the hard drive. As long as they get their $299 Xbox 360 they'll be satisfied.

they won't be able to save games tho, add the money for a mem card and then you're begining to thiink 'what the hell - may as well get the top one', the base pack is a VERY clever move by MS and a red herring (sp?). I think it'll only sell over xmas, when parents just want to get the console, then the kids will be in to buy the bits...with clever parents buying the top version.

Over here we start taking reserves when a company sends us general info . HOwever we recently (2 weeks ago) got binders for the stores from ms with pricing and launch dates. These however are wrong as you can see. So no basicly the whol east cost of gs are going nuts trying to fix the problem .

I think the 400$ price is really good . The 300$ option shouldn't be there. Or it should have been 300$ with a 20gig drive and a controller . Then a live package with like 3 months live free , a web cam , a wireless controller , hd cables , ethernet cable and something else stupid for the 400$ . I'm sure there would be alot of takers .

Spliting up the hardrive user base is just poor and it was my major gripe with sony and now its my major gripe with ms
