xbox 360 confirmed pricing

This is very bad, they ruined a lot of potentiaal proffit from market place wahts the point of having one if you cant store things, in fact most of the things from Live would need a HDD (trailers, music...).

IMO this is a big mistake and will hold (if by a inly some time or forever I dont know) a lot of potential costumers, me included probably, and the worst is that they give more changes to PS3 have their moments of glory.

Edit :the head is not included that will ruin the Live experince.

The 2 more important things are out of the core system, damm.

A 2.5" USB drive costs 50$.

That's retail with a full USB interface. MS probably only pays around $25 in the volumes they're buying them in.

It's interesting that MS will be selling the HDD addon for $100 so people who buy the barebones version will end up paying more when they upgrade.

What do you mean? $50 for USB HDD? What capacity? Or just the container?

Regards Live! content for trailers, minigames etc. these can be downloaded/streamed with needing extensive storage. I can view Quicktime Movie trailers with needing an HDD.

I would have been willing to pay $350 for the lower tier bundle if it came with an HDD.

I don't care how much the bundles cost, the big issue for me is that now the hard drive isn't standard and won't be used by that many developers. Developers make games for the lowest common denominator. When you're making a multimillion dollar game, you want to sell as many copies as possible.

Oh well, I just hope MS doesn't pull out an HDDVD drive in a year or two and try to force everyone to upgrade their systems. At this point I wouldn't be surprised.

Lets see,

Backwards compatibility? Not really
Standard HDD? Nope
Standard Wireless controllers? Nope
Next Gen Media? Nope (Not important to me though)

Seems to me that these would have been great selling points for Xbox, and MS is hindering themselves. Oh well.

At least the 299 still has all 3 cores. :)

All sony has to do now is annouce there system at $350 wireless controller included, and MS will be in trouble, the least they could have done was add the wireless controller in the stripped down version, but MS made it really easy for Sony to market there system.

This is quite possibly the worst decision in console manufacturing history.

I don't know which upstairs behind the doors boardroom marketing fuck made this decision. And I know he's never going to have to pay for his mistake. There destroying their strategic goals for the sake of cost in a company that is flush with cash and has a stock that is so far in the tank that additional losses wouldn’t affect it. The value of a network is the square of its endpoints and they are actually choosing to reduce their endpoints they would be better off with one price point even if it was a little high(355-375). If Xbox live and its user experience were really what they wanted to sell the system they just severely slashed its value. What happens if a developer wants to put out a addon that happenes to be 50 megs who the hell is going to put that on a memcard.

Also don't be surprised if Full Auto and Oblivion are cancelled.

I guess it makes the $399 version more attractive if thats the case. Thats a funky strategy..but I guess people who do go for the barebones version will be regreting it after when they want to download all the stuff Live! has to offer, seems like MS is taking advantage of the less informed video game consumers.

Gamespot has posted stand alone peripheral pricing. I've bolded those of major note:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/08/17/news_6131245.html

• Faceplate ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)
• Hard Drive (20 GB) ($99.99, 99.99 Euros, 69.99 GBP)
• Memory Unit (64 MB) ($39.99, 34.99 Euros, 22.99 GBP)
• Wireless Networking Adapter ($99.99, 79.99 Euros, 59.99 GBP)
• Wireless Controller ($49.99, 44.99 Euros, 32.99 GBP)
• Play and Charge Kit ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)
• Rechargeable Battery Pack ($11.99, 14.99 Euros, 9.99 GBP)
• Controller ($39.99, 34.99 Euros, 24.99 GBP)
• Headset ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)
• Universal Media Remote ($29.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP)

• SCART AV Cable (Europe) (24.99 Euros, 17.99 GBP)
• VGA HD AV Cable ($39.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP)

Major OUCH on the wireless networking adapter.

Shifty, you could have take 30 seconds and verify it yourself :) (But yeah, 20 GB drive.)

The low end model seems more of a way of selling the high end one than anything else ... I dont think the cost of the drives justifies not putting it in as standard at any rate.

The news that the x360 HDD officially isn't standard has really dropped my enthusiasm for the system. With the screenshots of up coming games being hit and miss in 'next gen graphics' so far and now a HDD that is basically a mem card I'll probably not get one at launch. I'll wait till the PS3 comes out and either hope for a price drop on the x360 or spend the $$ for a PS3 instead (or just go back to PC games.) It just seems silly that they're not having a HD in the cheaper model. You can buy retail a 2.5" 20 gig HDD for $50, MS price would be cheaper that, plus probably an addition discount for the volume of HDDs they would be purchasing from the manufacturer. $330 for the base model with HDD and I would be happy.. though I would be buying the $400 model for High Def cables and the wireless controller. It will be interesting to see if games like Oblivion will be playable on non-HDD models. I wonder if many people will cancel preorders or if the masses won't care either way. I also wonder if as the launch date gets closer I'll get over it and toss my money down anyway :)

Now, how much space does one Game need on XBox 1 ? If its less than 400MB, the Main RAM should suffice as "HDD" ?

Play and Charge Kit ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP)

Wait, I'm assuming this is the thing you use to charge the wireless controller while you play. Is this NOT included in the $399 bundle? So in order to play and charge the wireless at the same time you have to buy one of these on top of the $399? OMG!
