Yes, and equal bandwidth. Maybe this game is just really, really light on shader and texturing resources (where the 680 easily exceeds the 580).

Or we could go crazy and talk about it doing a lot of compute work that fits really poorly on Keplers architecture.

But I really don't see what would warrant that in this game.

I got it earlier for the Xbox One. It runs silky smooth and is a blast to play.
I havent downloaded the day one patch cuz I dont have broadband at home.
Being the patch is so large 5gb to 7gb, Wonder if I will get to a point in the game where I cant progress any further without the patch. Any one have a clue what this large update consists of?

Just played through first 3 chapters on PS4, Uber difficulty.

What an awesome game! I really like dark atmosphere, weapons and very satisfying gunplay.

    AFAIK, the XB1 patch is 7.3GB (PS4's is 5GB).

Everyone seems to be enjoying this. Will definitely pick it up.

Maybe console AMD optimization and accounting for the console CPU's made a difference for all AMD HW?

I thought that but I'm struggling to see why that would effect the older 6xxx series as well. I'm wondering if this is just a driver issue for NV.

It runs very well on my old Radeon 6950, High setting, 1080p. The visuals are Rage-like I'd say but a big improvement in some ways. It doesn't have those horrid ugly moments that Rage had. You can feel the idTech5 engine though with its texturing quirks like the stream-in if you spin around.

It needs some anti-aliasing..... Nothing in the menus. I can't tell if there is some not-so-great post-process AA running.

43.6GB Steam download. 33.1 GB "base textures" folder. 10.2GB "base" folder with "chunk" files, "streamed resources" and audio. 64-bit executable.

Yeah this is shaping up to be a very nice game. I think the story and characters really help pull it together too. The atmosphere is what the 2009 game was missing. This is dark and intense stuff.

That is strange since it uses opengl (not d3d) and nvidia has typically had better opengl implementations than AMD (though they have caught up over the last few years)

I don't know what to get, how will it run at 6000x1080? (30fps range I guess) Or should I stick to the new gen consoles where the visuals and fps seem good.

Battlefield 4 destroys this in the graphics departement on the PS4 even though it's lower resolution.

    Quick first impressions:

Maybe its because I have not progressed far but I am not impressed with the graphics at all. Looks exactly like a generic last gen (or older depending on platform) FPS.

Some of the design choices are annoying. I can understand having to click to pickup on health packs because of the overcharge thing, but why do I have to click armor and ammo? Clicking wouldnt be so bad except you cant do it unless your reticle is within a certain range - even if you're standing right on top of the drop :-/

I don't mind that the game can kill you easily in one shot, but damn it takes a while to reload the last save point.

Not saying this is a bad game at all... killing bad guys is satisfying, but this really feels like an old school PC FPS to me so far.

An idtech5 game will do so no matter what really.

I believe that's what they were going for and I'm glad it's turning out that way.

They've definitely nailed the old school shooter feel in play and action. Perhaps that's why it's had such a positive reaction in the community. After all a hankering for all things retro is always a good USP.

It's a corridor shooter with solid storytelling, professional acting and a refined feel overall. It has an edge to it and that's probably what people like too. I'm not sure why it fits into some "old school" category though, aside from inspiring happy thoughts about RTCW.

Its the concept of health ammo pickups that don't automagically get added to your inventory, proper gibbing and guns that don't aim themselves at the enemy. The gritty feel helps as well.

First few chapters on Uber [PS4] are relativley easy... but around chapter 5... things are starting to feel much more difficult. :)

    Spoiler tags plz. ;)

    PC persons:

"r_multisamples x" will get you MSAA but there are image artifacts sometimes. Replace that x with 2,4, or 8. I saw dark outlines around buildings in fog for example. It looks a bit better overall. MSAA doesn't cover that much these days however.
