Wolfenstein: The New Order

Looks solid. Weapon upgrades and perks are nice additions to the series. Maybe the 2009 game did that too though.

'm not sure I can take more WWII. If I start with the Colditz board game and Into the Eagles next on the C64 (great game), I reckon I have probably sunk more realtime hours into WWII games than the actual WWII took.

But it does look surprising good

This isn't WWII, it takes place decades after the Nazi victory.
Oh cool, thanks! I took brief look at the vid and saw the bit with the big anti-aircraft guns and thought it was WWII. I try to avoid spoilers so didn't want to watch a lot of it.

Alternate history WW2 is just in the prologue of the game.

$6 off the pre-order of Wolfenstein: The New Order on PS4 for PS+ members. I don't know how they worked this deal out, but I like it. No word on if this will be pre-load eligible now that 1.7 has rolled out. Pre-load + pre-order discount is a deadly combo (for my wallet).

Actually there are quite a few promotions for this game. Amazon is giving $10, BestBuy is doing $20 for rewards members, WalMart is also $10; for what its worth. In addition to the pre-order Doom beta access of course. :)

Still no word if PS4/Xbone digital purchases will get Doom4 beta? Official site confirms beta for all retail boxes and steam preorders, but for console digital preorders they have "we are still working on this with MS/Sony".

It mentions on the store that you get Doom beta with the PS store purchase.

All pre-order get an invite to the Doom Beta

See this post.

Official FAQ that is linked in that posts still says:

If I pre-order the game digitally for console, will I still get access to the DOOM Beta?
We are working with Microsoft and Sony and will update this page when we have more information.

So far, only physical copies and steam copies are guaranteed a code. Digital preorders on consoles are not.

People with 4 thread CPUs will not be happy. I have FX8350, but my GPU is barely above minimum. With me waiting for 20nm for upgrade, this years multiplats will be played on PS4.

That makes no sense, no game company would require an i7 minimum as they'd rule out 95% of the possible market.

That's a different story. i7 is needed for 60fps, an expereience that is deemed to be a key of this game. Stronger GPUs will of course be needed to raise the level of graphics from oldgen to nexgen visuals.

That still doesn't makes sense. The specs specifically state a "next gen experience at 60fps" requires a HD6850.

I expect they're just being a bit loose with the term i7. i5's can easily be as fast or faster i.e. a Haswell i5 can be a fair bit faster than a Nehalem i7.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7003/the-haswell-review-intel-core-i74770k-i54560k-tested/6

And there probably isn't really any AMD processor that can match a modern i7 in gaming performance.

I'd assume by "i7" they're referring to any decent Intel quad core from Nehalem onwards.

I think they are bit loose with the term "nextgen". i7 is needed for 60fps, but better GPUs will be needed for true nextgen visuals.

I wonder if they're suggesting 8 threads because of texture transcode? Rage would use 8 threads too. You didn't need much CPU to make that game run 60 fps though.

Here's some more gameplay. It looks fairly typical to me....
