Windows 10 [2014 - 2017]

EDIT: i just realized

I LOST 2 genuine windows legit license due to MS archaic, draconian activation DRM bullshit. Thats like... 1 month of my wage! omg.. MS...

I'm not sure that is true. Did you try activating one of those w7 keys on a w7 system? If it's reported invalid, does the phone system reset your key?

The problem is you are trying to active in a way w10 wasn't designed to due to poor decision making on MS' part.

Your w7 key isn't converted to a w10 key so that is enter you have to upgrade again from w7 after changing your mainboard. This doesn't have anything to do with MS not allowing hardware changes, because they do, it's just that with the way w10 currently checks your license status you need to upgrade from w7.

Anyway as written in the post above it looks like this will change with the November update.
Im

i no longer have w7 key :(

btw microsoft is breaching their own W10 EULA by refusing my reactivation request. they should honor my "transfer" request.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Useterms/OEM/Windows/10/UseTerms_OEM_Windows_10_English.htm

, the eula specfically says i can transfer license.

c. restriction. (iii) transfer the software (except as permitted by this agreement);

and in the agreement, the exception permitted the kind of transfer i need.

Stand-alone software. If you acquired the software as stand-alone software (and also if you upgraded from software you acquired as stand-alone software), you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software to a device owned by someone else if (i) you are the first licensed user of the software and (ii) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Every time you transfer the software to a new device, you must remove the software from the prior device. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between devices.

even weirder, microsoft do have re-activation method inplace using their Store. I click "Go to Store" instead of "change key". Store will open and says "click here to be genuine"

i click, but it stuck on "your device will be genuine shortly..."

It seems from the windows and store perspective, i should be allowed to reactivate. But from their licensing server, i am not allowed to reactivate. Result = windows stuck on "your device will be genuine shortly..."

EDIT
lesson learned,

1. if something does not broken, dont fix it (w7 was working fine, but i upgrade to 10)
2. dont believe what the company says for DRM. i must remind myself to stop going digital on PS4 (already full digital on PS Vita, bummer...), and must remember to put no-steam crack on my steam games.
3. always take picture of serial/key and automatically put that shit on Bittorrent Sync.

I dont want to get fucked by digital DRM anymore.

EDIT:
i think problem solved, i found a theory that might work :)

CCleaner can uninstall Windows 10 apps now

Yesterday's CCleaner update to version 5.11 introduces several new features to the popular application. One of them allows users on Windows 8 or newer versions of Windows to uninstall Windows apps from the computer using the program.

The removal of Windows apps works just like the removal of desktop programs. Select the application you want to remove and hit the uninstall button afterwards. Confirm that you want to remove the app and wait for the removal process to run its course.

Please note that you can remove core Windows apps using CCleaner. Since there is no backup created prior to the operation, you will not be able to restore these apps at a later point in time using the program.

On my new fresh Win10, the lock screen uselessly appears whenever I've been away from the PC for a while, and I'm not sure why it does this or where the setting controlling this behavior (if there indeed is one) is; my original install didn't do this.

Anyone have a clue and can chime in...? :D

I just wont to point, a lot of D3D8 fullscreen games do not work anymore due the compositor changes. Hopefully the November updates (which will finalize the new compositor) will fix this ,_,

Microsoft Finally Agrees to Provide Info on Windows 10 Updates

If you're already on Windows 10, you probably know that Microsoft doesn't provide any change log with the updates it releases for your operating system, aside from some very short mentions of “improvements and performance optimizations.”

So it's absolutely no surprise that the majority of users running Windows 10 criticized Microsoft for this sudden change, especially because they want to always be in full control of the updates they install, which sometimes could actually do more harm than good.

Fortunately, it appears that Microsoft has received the message, and Windows boss Terry Myerson says that the software giant is now working to change this approach and provide us with change logs for every single Windows 10 update that it pushes to our computers.
...
Right now, it's not yet clear when Microsoft actually plans to provide us with information on the Windows 10 updates it ships, but given the fact that Threshold 2 is just around the corner, this would be a good moment to start doing so.

Dege of DGVoodoo2 is working on a workaround for that. I wouldn't count on MS fixing it.....

I have this bug on my tablet. Hopefully the next big service pack will fix this. No idea whats causing it but its ignoring the settings. Tried the sign in options, power settings, screensaver settings etc.

Rome Total War (1) does not work with voodoo hacks. Fortunately, on some games is still possible to force the (border-less) window mode.
DGVoodoo2 is actually now also a D3D 3-7 emulator/wrapper and he is going to add D3D 8 in the future. So it can't help you yet but it probably will eventually. There is a readme included with it that has a lot of details about the D3D efforts. It's really quite amazing and he is very active on VOGONS with people testing his program.

I used it with Emperor Battle for Dune last week and the game runs much better in Win10 this way. Most of the pre-D3D9 games I've tried in Win8/10 need some kind of wrapper to run well.

Cool, I may have to look into this. Unfortunately I don't think it'll help me play some of the old CD protection games (that used securom and the like) that I want to replay like old LOTR based RTS games (can't remember what they are called and they are in my closet). When I last tried on Windows 7, they wouldn't even install. And unfortunately, many of those old games that I have on CD/DVD don't have and likely won't get a digital release.

Regards,
SB

Windows 7 32bit might be compatible with the DRM or some of it. It can run drivers for 2000 and XP (I don't know about Windows 8 and 10 32bit)

I don't know who is ultimately at fault here, windows 10 or AMD display driver, but after re-installing win10 my screen doesn't want to power up from sleep mode when trying to wake it. I have to toggle the power switch instead, and when I do I end up at the lock screen (making me think it's windows' fault, somehow not passing on input messages properly to the relevant destination so the screen can get woken up). Sometimes I get a small window from catalyst driver notifying me of displayport link error, telling me the highest resolutions and refresh rates can't be used, even though it's clearly showing 1440P@60... Sometimes I get the same window and the screen knocked down to 800*600 or somesuch. Toggling the monitor power button at that stage knocks the screen rez down to 640*480... D'OH!

To fix, I must pull the displayport cable and re-connect it (no, the cable is just fine btw...) This is getting a bit tiresome, so I've switched back to crappy ole dual-link DVI for now to see if anything improves; I have a Samsung cable I got with the display (S27A850D) which isn't overly thick and unwieldy, but on the other hand it's fairly short instead... :(

I have the same issue on my Nvidia 970 with display port and sleep. Was perfectly fine on windows 7.
