Are they for real? I mean it WiiU UK channel and they make a presentation to "lazy" gamers in Japanese with subtitles? And an extremely formal and boring one on top of it?
/ Marketing team is on strike?

Looking forward to WiiU just disappointed it won't play blu-ray. Is it because of the licensing? Also will it be able to encode video files?

Encode? Why would it be capable of doing that?

No BR because of extra fees. I doubt most people will care. Anybody who really cares would have bought a BR player by now and Nintendo makes money by selling games, BR is not going to earn them anything.

They could have earned money by selling a stand-alone BD software player. The wuu would have been great for that, with the small size, wuublet and all. ...But NOOOO. Nintendo can't see past its own nose when it comes to something not strictly gaming-related.

Maybe encode isn't the right word. Will it have the capability to play video media? I don't understand this argument about having a separate BR player, the more I can reduce clutter in my entertainment space the better. I would pefer one device that does all, except in my TV...just seems intuitive. Nintendo always seems to disappointment me that why I have not purchased one since the Super N days.

Some of us like redundancy for fault tolerance.
I prefer to have specialized devices so I don't lose everything when they break. (Because they usually do after a while, Nintendo consoles and a few HiFi systems being notable exceptions for me.)

I for one prefer not having a billion different devices, all with their own remote controls, cluttering up my home. Also, black friday is just one day a year, and only in the US. It doesn't apply to me.

Did that logic work for God of War II and the PS3?

While the PS3 and Sony has struggled a bit this gen. I doubt that many will point to the fact of GOW2 not initially being on the PS3 led to Sony's current circumstance. Isn't the lack of big name third party titles available on a new console at launch, pretty much the norm and has been so for decades?

Can't wait to see the comparison between PS360 and WiiU for Blops 2, wonder what the performance will be like.

If the Wii U to date is any indication, it will lose, and the excuses will flow. But yeah, cant wait.

You'd think if Wii U version was superior, Activision would for example be showing that version everywhere (short of PC, I guess)

Currently I use PS3 as my BRD and DVD player. If Nintendo want me to switch to Wii U, I'll still need the PS3, which isn't really going to fit alongside another device. Different folk have different requirements so I can understand Nintendo not including BRD playback by default due to the added cost, but they should have the option available as a purchase for those that do want a consolidated entertainment box. The technology is capable so the lack of support is Nintendo making feature choice, which is going to be buying feature for some. I guess they don't want the faff of supporting a BRD player pack.

    Thats funny.
We know little about the WiiU, we know nothing about the other two, and your talking about kool-aid drinking? The information points to MS and Sony not coming out with beastly machines as much as they might. Its also an admitted fact that MS and Sony have no problems spreading rumors to stifle the competition. In other words, MS or Sony can leak info about the most fantastic machines possible for people to hold off purchasing the WiiU thinking something better is coming when the reality is different.

And no, NIntendo should not get out of the console business as they have brought, and are still bringing, more advancements in console and controller design than anyone one else in the business. And, they understand that consoles should be affordable.

I know of no person actively posting on this message board who believes that. Using such offensive and/or incendiary language like that in this situation is...well, pretty inexcusable really.

Good news is they have a single user defined network ID instead of random codes. Bad news is they don't have a universal achievement mechanic. You may want to retract your remark. :p

It really depends on your opinion about achievements to begin with.

Removal of an optional feature that users may or may not care about is considered progress?

I honestly don't see the difference in a 'universal acheivments' system and what WiiU has (Devs are free to add them in if they want). They show up on your profile, just like Steam. What else do they need to do? (<---serious question here, not rhetorical)

IMO it leads to more meaningful cheevs instead of "you completed level 1; have a medal". 'Cheevs should be for doing something spectacular/humorous/outside of what is required to play the game. Not having a universal system may discourage developers from just chucking them in to avoid being the odd one out. They'll hopefully only add them if they actually mean something. Ya know, if you actually achieve something...

Or am I missing the point? (I grew up without all this gubbins, so I might be missing what all the fuss is about )

***Edit: On second though I'm not 1000% sure that in game achivments are shown on the profile, but I did read that in a transaltion of the ND. Ill try and confirm/ If so, then I stand by the above post. If not, I don't. Although I still don't grasp the reason its a bad thing ;)
