Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

Phhhhfft ! I wish Uncharted used the treasures as trophies. I would be way more interested to collect them instead of competing at a time and talent disadvantage (I suck !).

Ah well, there is always the Home space and 3D trophies. Hopefully NaughtyDog think of some way to parade the treasures there.

Hold on everyone...

The usual thing is to switch on your PS3, pop the game disc in and it'll prompt you about the patch right? I've tried it twice with Uncharted and not had one prompt. Any secret I'm missing?

You have to signed into PSN, and it has to be out for your region. So far, we've confirmed NA (well, the US at least) and some parts of Europe.

Yup, was signed in and I'm in the UK. Hold on though, I've got a Japanese version of the game... that's probably the reason, right? :(

Yep. I should have clarified that further. You have to be signed into PSN and the patch has to be available for the region of the game itself.

DLC is turning out to be one of the unexpected downsides to importing that can sneak up on you unexpectedly.

Cheers dude. Still, I guess it's only a matter of time then.

What an overly-complicated* system. Not for the public, but for Sony and devs.

*Not really, but you know what I mean.

IMO they should do it by IP location...but that must be more complex than disc location.

I finally got the trophy I wanted. For beating crushing for the second time. I'm never doing that again, the enemies get far to many lucky shots in for my taste. Maybe I'll try for that platinum trophy, since I got this far.

I got the platinum trophy. So what is the normal way to proceed now? Do I message everyone in my friendslist, and tell how much better I am at playing Uncharted then they are, for having the platinum trophy before they got it? I don't see much added value here after getting the crushing trophy. Next time I'll probably chose with trophy's I consider worth getting, and don't bother with the rest.

I think the disc is the right way, if you look at me for instance, I live in Norway, imported a jap PS3 and play US version of Motorstorm.

Since the games work across regions, but they are not the same (localization etc), its quite logical that an EU patch might not work on an US game, ie if they patch by IP I get the wrong patch.
Also Geo location based on IP's are not fool proof, I can get my IP to be registered as an US IP even though I live in Norway. Okay the last trick is because I got some nice friends in the right places at the ISP, but still its being done without some silly proxies and vpn tunnels :)

So if the patch server the game connects to is on the disc then you at least know that it gets the correct patch for the game on the disc.

Yes! You get gloating rights. That's what trophies/achievements are all about. I suppose they can also be added value challenges for a game, but I know people inadvertently get hung up on attaining a rank or skill or trophy or level in a game such that it's a grind and they're not enjoying it, but still pursue the goal. If you can separate out the targets from the grind and like to choose targets as challenges that add to your enjoyment, then the trophies can serve a purpose. If you like to play the gloat game with your friends, they're cool. If you don't fancy either of those things, Trophies don't really serve a purpose.

PLayed for quite some time today and got 9 trophies ! I dunno about the lucrativeness of the concept, but am sure enjoying playing Uncharted after a long time ;) ! I am pleasantly being reminded of how beautiful the game is in Outdoors.
Earlier I had played it on my SDTv, but playing it now on my HDTv is a whole new experience, but I wouldn't have bothered after a few levels if not for the trophies.I guess, if I didn't have deepbrown on my friend list, I wouldn't have bothered at all, as all of the other guys on my list don't have any trophies at all!:D( Go play some Uncharted patsu:p)

I'm on my way through Crushing :D Never done it before...it's tough! I'm not really trying to get these trophies...they just come and it feels good :)

The rewards you receive for the medal points in Uncharted, are a much better reason to get them than the trophy's. There are making of videos, weapon select, additional skins, mirror world, speed up, slow motion, and even a next gen filter for all you game reviewers out there.

A lot of people in my friendslist have been showing off their trophy's by putting the number they have in their comments next to their avatar's. I guess it does add value for some people. There doesn't seem to be a fixed number of trophy's across every game, like the 1000 achievement points on Xbox. And what does the level mean? I'm a level 4 by just collecting all the trophy's in Uncharted. Some of my friends have more trophy's than I have by playing Stardust HD and Pixeljunk Eden, yet I have a higher level. I guess you get more points for better trophy's.
