Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

Hmm... there are different ways to count it. And I kept it vague so I don't spoil the story. All the enemies put up a good fight (What can I say ? The pirates and mercs seem to have good recruiting process).

You'll face opponents who are reasonably good to excellent meleer, good to sharp shooters (those with Dragon sniper rifle). And they behaved differently based on the terrain and weapons they carried. Almost all of them are aggressive and motivated to kill you. For weapon types, you'll face pistols, rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, sniper rifles, grenades and em... more. ;-)

I think I actually know why you'd think pirates are harder.
They shoot in very, very odd positions, making them hard to hit.

How many times do you see a guy shoot with their feet 1.5 meters apart?
how many times do you see people lay down on the floor when they shoot?
these are quite unexpected and make you miss your headshots lol

anyway, I'm about halfway through Crushing.
I would definately say that COD4's Veteran was much, much harder.
But Uncharted's variety of terrain layout makes it much more fun to navigate through.

Also, In the latter half, the mercenaries start to wear helmets, making headshots much much harder....

That's possible too. I have this constant pressure and feeling of despair when fighting them initially. I think I was pinned down more often than when facing the mercs. I really felt that the pirates were using unfair and cheap, swarm tactics against me.
I thought the booby trap idea in one of the levels is great
. It further reinforced the notion that damn pirates fight dirty. When Sully or Elena was with me, they took some of the attention (or even enemies) away which was liberating.

The mercs have better gears and more sophisticated skills (headshots), but I was able to sneak around more freely to counter their moves. If all these "enemy behaviour" were intentional, then I'm impressed. I respect the mercs a lot more in the end when they were able to hold their own (easily) against other enemies.

Yes, I really like their sneaky moves despite getting slaughtered by them. For a moment, I was afraid they would pick up my grenade and throw it back at me.

Then I am definitely not playing CoD4 on Veteran. Life is too short.

Yes, I noticed that. Towards the end, I also drop and swap weapons more often.
The Dragon sniper works wonder against all human, even a body shot will kill them in just 1 hit
. Then I just picked up the more versatile weapon and proceed to the next level.

Is it just me or does the Fortress look head and shoulders above most other levels in the game, all the textures are just of incredibly high resolution. That entire level is just breathtaking from start(scaffolding wall) to finish. This level demonstrates the best looking 3d graphics to date IMO.

Speaking of textures, all the textures are of a high resolution, however there are some which are of a super super high resolution. I hope in Uncharted 2 they can make all the textures in the game of that super quality.

Hmm... they seem to like Uncharted quite a bit. Evan Wells may be correct to say that he regreted showing Uncharted to the journalists too early. It's fortunate that subsequent improvements were sufficient to swing their opinion from luke warm in preview to a great score in review. I was told good games like AC and Mass Effect only get a 7 from them this time round. It's tough being a game developer. I wish there is a better review system than just a simple score. It doesn't do the games justice.

I agree with the fortress being extra-high quality. The later levels do not seem to be of the same qualityl, although still very nice. The jungles also look great, but I think the situation here is just that we don't really have anything to compare it to.

Anyway, finished the game on crushing, and completed all medals (yay)
The hardest medal was probably the Dyno-might Expert medal (3 kills in 1 explosion 5 times)
As for the treasures, I found 59 of them myself, and the last one resolved to looking up in forums... I really missed the last one... and I probably wouldn't have looked there for some reason...

Anyway, back to the chase.
Crushing wasn't that hard. It's just that it's easy to die, and enemies take 5 shots in the end to kill (and headshots don't work either due to the helmets). Other than that, they are still as agressive as before, so that's not much of a change. If you can complete the game on hard the first time around, Crushing shouldn't be too hard for you if you have the time and patience to do it.

Just got it today... last day for the kmart 20% off. Playing Assassins Creed too though, but so far, so good. Enjoying it a lot. Got about 20 games for my PS3 now.. didnt even realize I had that many.

Strange, it sounds like you finished the game in its entirety. How long was the whole experience ?

First run through took 7 hours. Second run through on crushing took about... 8 hours again?

Figuring ways to get all the medals most effectively and actually doing them took about another 4 hours....

In total about 20 hours?

Oh yeah, Donut Drake looks really hilarious lol

Any screens or opinions on the post processing effects you can switch on (edit) after having completed the game? I'm particularly interested in that "super shiny shine next gen look" they were talking about with too much bloom etc. :D

You can switch them on midway through the first try, as they require minimal points (about 200~300 out of 1000).

The three rendering modes are
Black and White
Sepia Tint
Next Gen Filter

These are the pictures

sorry for the large screenshots.

Oh yeah, I added the 2 funny skins for Drake, they're pretty funny to play around with.

Another thing to note: the filters don't really have an impact on the frame rate...

Strange, it's amazing that you managed to complete everything so quickly. It will take me a long long time to do so. I don't think I ever will.

:) I have 11. Thought I only have 8-9 games.

If I include the full PSN games ie Calling all cars, SSHD, Warhawk etc I think I got about 15-16 games. And I have never bought so many games for any system in my life, MAYBE I had that many original games on the C64, but other than that, not even close.

Off the top of my head, though I might forget one or two PSN thingies:

BluRay Games

Resistance
Motorstorm
Heavenly Sword
Eye of Judgment
Ratchet & Clank*
Uncharted*

* payed for, will get them on Dec 7

PSN Games Purchased
Blast Factor
Fl0w
Go! Sudoku
Tekken 5: DR + Online
Super Rub-a-Dub
Super Stardust HD
Warhawk

PSP+PS3 Games (work on both)
Crash Bandicoot

Retro:
Gauntlett 2
QBert

BluRay Movies
Blackhawk Down (got it with the PS3, haven't even watched it yet!)
Underworld Evolution (ok)
Planet Earth (awesome)
Superman 1-2-3 Pack (very nice)

Worth noting by the way that over here currently new movies cost almost the same on BluRay as they do on DVD.

Also, I don't think I'll buy a lot of retro stuff in the future ... most of that is better on my PSP in an emulator, and there are too many great new games anyway.
