Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

9/10 in Eurogamer. Wow, this sounds like it could be even better than Assassins Creed which I just got. Looks I'm gonna have to buy this too. Graphically its awesome, surprised its 1080p considering Heavenly Sword wasnt.

It's not. It's 720p. Eurogamer was mistaken. It does support 1080i for those who need it, but i wouldn't advise it (tearing)

What you and I may consider glorious art style many others absolutely hate or merely just accept as passable or ok. I mentioned at work the other day during a gaming discussion that I thought uncharted was the best looking game I have played this year and my co-workers thought I was insane. I think that this is the opinion of the majority and that probably influenced some of these graphics scores. Not really a big deal, just a little annoying when games like Gears of War get free passes when they have the same issues (and more in some cases) just because the art is more well received in the mainstream.

If I don't see people complaining about texture pop-in in UT3 I will riot in the streets (j/king, but I'm willing to bet that most people and reviewers will give it a free pass on this even though it happens to me regularly in the demo when I first load a level playing at max settings 1920x1200). It's all about the art in a lot of these cases. COD4 has extremely well done art/atmosphere that is very well received by the majority of people, so it gets a 10. That's all there is to it, imho anyways.

;)

Well, technically, it runs 1280x720p for 7xx resolutions as well as 960x1080p for 1080x resolutions, both with AA. So you could, in a sense, say that it supports 1080 at least in as much as other titles who claim 1080p (which they don't, by the way - they've always said their title is a 720p title at 30fps).

That little bump in resolution could also affect tearing. I recommend everyone try the game in 720p if your TV supports it. That was the core design resolution.

You're pretty much right there, I've also thought about Gears looking at Uncharted screenshots the other day. Same kind of lighting and similar look for the shaders, though Naughty Dog has managed to get more out of the system in practically every aspect (level size, number of charactes, 2xAA etc).
I kinda like both art styles though, particularly for their decision to ditch photo-textures, it'd have to be a very close tie between them if I had to give out scores ;)

that is your opinion which does not necessarily make it true.

some believe it's on par with, rather than exceeding some other titles.

True, some things are better some are not. It is very much an opinion stuff but seeing CoD4 and the response for the graphics and yet seeing nothing really spectacular tech/graphics wise it makes you think. How much of the graphics "wow" is by art and how much by tech "wow" compared to other titles.

That is an ugly thing to do, hell then I could say I play all my games at 1024p on my PC (1280*1024), nah to lame and a missuse of the 1080p mark.

I hope both agree and disagree.
One side we've seen nothing like viva pinata, on the other side Given the review it seems tough to denie that uncharted is the most beautifull game on a next gen so far.

What's wrong is the stealth trolling like "it at last prove ps3 superiority" that is latent in every topic here.

I don't feel like the game couldn't have been done on the 360... the problem is that on the 360 I can't see anyone but Rare pushing out the door such a graphical "tour de force".EDIT or obviously ND/insomniac...but

And sadly Rare ressources seem wasted mostly so far.
Family/socil gaming doesn't need over the top graphics...
I don't understand MS on this matter.

Rare has to push real fps/tps even mixed to plateformer like uncharted, or top of the class fighting game...

Anyway I'm going way out of thread

Just imagine there NEXT game

Obviously next game will be better, cause the engine is already good, but ND has been given quiet sometime to push this game out, think about some ms first party dev teams which had been working on way more time constrained conditions.

Such as? Cant we just accept that ND have done the best job engine-wise thus far? Sometimes games that are in development for ages lose their technological edge.

The bickering is too funny, Uncharted is the best looking console game released, period. Anyway! I called my Gamestop and they're getting it in tomorrow, can't wait!

You know such assumptions and interprerations are getting annoying. People are discussing about how great and unique the game is, yet you interpret it as if people are trolling about the "superiority of the PS3".

Well it just happens to be a title that is unique and exclusive on the PS3.

It seems like it is ok for people to discuss great games unique on the 360 but not on the PS3 because that automatically means "trolling about the superiotity"?

Wierd, ND ppl said don't expect it out until next week. I am reading GAF and ppl are reporting GS called about their preorder and it'll be ready tomorrow.

a 9 for graphic from IGN is very good but if a game such as COD4 just released less than a month ago got a 10 from the same site than I think people have the right to complaint.

Same here.
Gamestop says that it'll arrive before tomorrow (Friday) noon.

Much earlier than expected.... was expecting it on 19th, what a pleasant surprise :D

Gamesradar are describing Uncharted as "the best looking PS3 game to date", pretty impressive after some of the (tongue-in-cheek) CG like comparisons made with R&C. Have to agree though, shame its not scoring higher.

I'm more excited about the fact, that Naughty Dog, which I firmly believe to be among the most talented devs (right back to the PS1 days) is right on the mark on the PS3 as well. They may have started a bit earlier with next gen development, but on the whole, they are still relatively early with their game - especially when you compare them to other big PS3 hitters like MGS4, KillZone2, Gran Turismo 5 etc...

I'd say I'm surprised they're out this quick with such a solid and graphically very impressive game.

Actually... where opinion is concerned, the reviewers' can be flawed or even irrelevant too.

I don't think they are trained artists. Someone else think they lack the technical insights. If they do it by counting pop-ins and tears, yet I am led to believe that Gears received a 10 in some mags ? IMHO, CoD4 visual is lesser than the UDF demo too.

At the end of the day, I think it's just a matter of what they/we like (10 means they like it best or very much... given whatever exposure, personal preferences and influence they/we are subjected to). Perhaps all the rendering should have been focused on Elena... or Nathan should have been a scar-faced marine (with cool crew cut). I would much prefer it's the former.
