Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

so the arguing here is because some 360 game(s) got a 10 in graphics and uncharted didn't so... the review conspiracy raises its head again?

I know Sony promised it to you but, you guys are too much in your search for graphics "superiority" this gen.

Most games in general have some type of flaw in the graphics scores. No way is COD4 a 10 in graphics on the PS3 or X360. I honestly can't believe it got that from IGN.

I agree that CoD4's graphics weren't as impressive as I thought they would be (I'm not saying they're bad at all). However, my expectations were mostly set by the hype the game was getting on this very Forum after E3.

its not a platform thing at all... why do you always assume it is? :???:
you said something similar in the AC thread.

Uncharted is the best looking console game to date and I wouldn't be suprised if it was the best looking game until uncharted 2 comes out.

The nit pickers are just that, nit pickers. They might find their posts cause less friction if they were evenhanded with their comments, when they only nitpick about PS3 games, and excuse games on other platforms, people are going to take it the wrong way.

have you guys ever thought that a game got 9.5/10 points before 'other better looking' (depends on all the parts and flaws) games where released and therefore got that high score. If they would re-review it today would it get the same graphics score you think, no?

Yes but when does that change in standards come? When the best looking game comes out on the ps3? What a jolly coincidence.

The reviews aren't complaining about lighting and textures. If anything, it's about tearing and pop in. Or did everyone forget why it got docked a point for graphics? If tearing and pop in is acceptable to you, then by all means, disagree based off THAT! not something that wasn't even mentioned as a knock against the graphics score.

Like the popin in Gears? I mean come on - docking for texture pop-in at the begining of a level load is absurd - since all games that stream textures have it. The choice is - a slight delay for textures that you'll hardly notice, OR low-res textures. And the tearing is minimal at 720p that Eurogamer didn't notice, I don't notice it in the demo (note I do notice it when the game is running at 1080i!) Though I do understand your point...but it wasn't me who brought it to other features of the graphics.

Well I played the demo a few times, on my first play through I got tearing at one point. However I've since not been able to get any tearing appear.

I think the game looks absolutely amazing, but certainly I don't think any game deserves a 10, period.

Expectations change over time... what was a 10 in graphics 3-6-12 months ago before any predecessors had anything nearly as good (on consoles), graphics expectations were one thing.

Since that time... expectations have shifted since much of that quality has already been seen.

Point is we haven't seen anything like Uncharted. In truth if standards were the same I'd love to imagine what kind of scores it would be getting in graphics. This is how graphics are marked these days - if Crysis was on consoles, looking just as good as it does now, but with a bit of tearing, slow-down and pop-in...it might be getting 9/10 as well for graphics. Simply because it's not the visual quality that matters - it's that there is a negative point that seems to matter to these reviewers here and now, something that didn't matter to them months ago.

So if Uncharted, as beautiful as it is, can't score a 10, it makes you wonder what unreal expectations these reviewers have right now!

Like most have said, the reviews don't affect me personally because I can see that it's beautiful, and I can make my own mind up!

But my concern is that Uncharted may not be getting the attention that it fully deserves. I'm sure there are people out there that rely on reviews for their upcoming purchases, and I'd hate to think that Uncharted is missing out on potential sale opportunities because of some inconsistent, unrealisticly high expectations of some reviewers.

Oh well, great demo Naughty God!

that is your opinion which does not necessarily make it true.

some believe it's on par with, rather than exceeding some other titles.

There are always some "some". Like those that think Crysis is unimpressive.

Out of interest what graphics scores did Super Mario galaxy get? I expect very high...if not perfect. Reason is, expectations for the Wii's graphical capabilities are very low. The expectations for 360 titles is moderate, and the expectations for PS3 seem to be sky high. Who's fault is this? Sony most likely.

All I know is that Uncharted has the wow factor, it does so many things write, and has a glorious art style...and I know that when it's played we'll have some incredible environments and some "what the f*** how are they doing that!?" - I'll put money on it, we haven't seen half of what Uncharted has in store for us. Speaking to someone who's played the whole game, they say the demo level is one of the least impressive levels.

Or they are just keeping the 10s in the safe for Killzone 2 or the next PS3 games that comes out of nowhere and looks like a million.

I say poor ND...because their engine rivals the best.

"In truth, it may take years before rival brands find themselves with game engines as effortlessly capable as this one." (Eurogamer review - somebody who has actually played the game)

Wait! Wasn't Uncharted featured in that E32K5 highlight reel for the PS3? And by my account, they have delivered on the promise! Or is every PS3 game gonna be judged against KZ2?

 I just can't wait! I hope SONY start kicking the marketing machine into gear! Afterall, they have set aside $1million for marketing this baby!

What you and I may consider glorious art style many others absolutely hate or merely just accept as passable or ok. I mentioned at work the other day during a gaming discussion that I thought uncharted was the best looking game I have played this year and my co-workers thought I was insane. I think that this is the opinion of the majority and that probably influenced some of these graphics scores. Not really a big deal, just a little annoying when games like Gears of War get free passes when they have the same issues (and more in some cases) just because the art is more well received in the mainstream.

If I don't see people complaining about texture pop-in in UT3 I will riot in the streets (j/king, but I'm willing to bet that most people and reviewers will give it a free pass on this even though it happens to me regularly in the demo when I first load a level playing at max settings 1920x1200). It's all about the art in a lot of these cases. COD4 has extremely well done art/atmosphere that is very well received by the majority of people, so it gets a 10. That's all there is to it, imho anyways.
