Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

Nah huge difference (look in my sig, set2+3) but the water in the boat scene/cut-scene is very good! ;)

Ya, I apologize, Crysis was more of a "WTF I can't believe this is rendered" verses a Uncharted "wow, the water looks very good!".

Still wows, but different wows.

It probably will depend on what kind of PC rigs you have.

Due to its exceptional quality, Uncharted momentum will snowball on its own. Hard to imagine these guys started from zero codebase. What impresses me most is still the overall package, everything seem so polished. The shadows look good too. How long was the development cycle ?

The ball is now squarely in sales and marketing's court... to make sure everyone under the sun experience it.

Almost 3 years i think

They said they had the full team work on it for 2 years, with 1 year before that 6 coders starting to mess about with the technology. That they didn't have a code-base was probably just good for them, but that they had so far worked with a lisp-based codebase for their Playstation 1 and 2 titles and had to switch to C (partly because they wanted to be able to share their code with other developers) impresses me to no end. In my experience it's not easy to get coders to do that kind of thing! :D

it's a shame as good as crysis looks in dx10, it's virtually unplayable with 13fps average. i just hope 9800gtx can be 4times faster and then we can actually run this thing properly.

Probably best to leave the Crysis talk out of it, no? That won't end up well.

Runs above 30fps at 720p+ res DX10 max settings with a 8800GTX so no problem there, but even DX9 mode has 3D water! ;)

Now I'll think Roberts advice is good to follow.

The animation is about the only thing I don't find impressive about Uncharted. Varied and seamless, yes. Realistic and fluid, no.
I think that's a very good way of putting it.

However, varied and seamless is pretty impressive in its own right simply because it's so rare. Throwing in realistic shouldn't be too big a leap to make for their next game if they want to.

I think COD4 is the only game I've seen with some really realistic animations for extended sequences, but it isn't consistently that way across the various gameplay trailers I've seen, so overall I wouldn't call it much better than Uncharted. This game is definately top class, and as Nebula was saying, there's a good chance that this is the look they wanted with the animation.

I had the pleasure of watching the massive trailer after the PS3 spend the night downloading all the new stuff from PSN.

In real old school term, oh my god? in all it´s 110 inch glory and with the massive attack music god touched my PS3 and it all came together in a must be bought title.

Yes, I downloaded it tonight too. The trailer does look fantastic and more impactful on a bigger screen.

watched the 720p clip on my 42", much better visual impact than on my 24"lcd like everyone said. man, to think they're only using 30% of cell, i cant imagine wat they can do with future titles.

It´s starting to shape up really good, the graphics looks like a mixture between FarCry and Gears of war ,plus minus some things.
The animations are nothing special, they are not bad either IMO.
The gameplay is my only worry right now. Is there no level were you can sneak past enemies instead of having to kill every single enemy on the level?

if these are nothing special, then animation in previous games, and other games are beyond shite with a capital s.

Layering animation in all it's glory...something that should be praised as a revolution in game animation.

Mighty impressive but is that from a cut-scene?
I was refering to the enemy animations and Jakes animations when playing, judging from the latest videos I´ve seen.
I´ve seen better animations in-game, but I´m not saying that the animations in Uncharted are bad.

No. They are in game gameplay scenes. But you probably didnt bother with the game to know. You mainly posted your biased ideas. Just the fact that you said "Mighty impressive but is that from a cut-scene?" shows that even you were fooled due to its very well done animations.

Arent those from the ingame cut-scenes/story driven non-playable bits (camera view and movments as hint perhaps?)? Becouse they look different from the gameplay ones even though they are no slouch them either.

is far cry even worth mentioning here? the game is more than looking impressive, it reacts even better, thats what i lke bout it.
if the facial animation in uncharted doesnt amaze you, then im speechless.

Well to be fair the animations in the Uncharted cut-scenes are more vivid/realistic than the ingame ones IMO.
