Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

I thought the game released in early Nov. but the release date is 11/20 so they may have more time.

But I thought there were French movies posted of entire levels.

Overhyped by whom? Us?

I think it hasn't been hyped enough - as can be seen from this article. http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/10/23/the-showdown-can-uncharted-be-a-killer-app

They really need to get behind this, because it has the potential to be a massive seller - and a seller of the system. There is NOTHING like this, at this quality anywhere else. Bright colours, strong graphics, good story, solid gameplay - a true delight from Naughty Dog and Sony need to get behind them and advertise the hell out of it.

Oh and A.I and animation described here in the official blog: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/10/23/uncharted-drake’s-fortune-update-ai-animation/

This game looks promising. I'm expecting good story with many hilarius gags. Main character is very appealling as he reminds me main character in Broken Sword series. I'm really looking forward for this game which can be a reason to get PS3.

Sorry, but these are your impressions from actually playing it? Or just from reading some previews (previews for the most part tend to be very positive) and watching some trailers?

It's an interesting looking game to me, the graphics are pretty good, but I really don't see how you can say all that much about the story and gameplay. From what I've seen it looks very much an updated tomb raider game with a few added elements and better graphics,(this is not an insult the original tomb raider was a goty). I'd hardly say there's nothing like it.

i agree theres been very little hype about this game compared to how much it merits
overall as a package it sets a new benchmark for consoles/pc games.
sony marketing have dropped the ball WRT to this title

...

The game isn't even out yet. The game could be a huge piece of crap. I highly doubt it, but I'm not prepared to make any bold claims until I can sit down and play it end to end.

If that could only be true.....

It should be more like this, ;)

+1, better to wait some more before making bold claims having in mind other game releases and the hype wagon behind them...

im talking only about the graphics technically,
WRT gameplay yes u could be right, it could be shite, also as im not a fan of platformers personally it doesnt look to be my cup of tea (what a stopid expression btw), though it does appear to be less of a platformer than i first feared.

Nothing like it on the 360 or PS3 is what I'm saying. Stylistically, graphical strength, story wise, mix of platforming and shooting (Tomb Raider's combat is not worth talking about). At this moment in time we have dark shooters, Uncharted is the shooter/platformer to change this trend. When someone walks into a shop and sees Uncharted playing, they won't have seen anything like it on current systems.

This is what I mean. My knowledge is not all formed through watching videos and looking at screenshots. It's amassed from developer blogs, 10's of previews and indepth interviews. DOn't presume I don't know what I'm talking about.

Of course I have no idea whether they will pull it off, whether it will be an AAA title - but I have the knowledge to say that this game is a first for this generation, and stands out as such.

Game's gone GOLD by the way.

Perfect glass throughout, with no transparency; no surface deformation, only normal displacement; limited ripple effect and weak particle effects. It's not bad, and not ugly, but isn't the greatest water ever. Certainly not a 'volumetric' water algorithm as some games are trying.
The water has correct reflections (which so many devs seems to seemed to skimp on these days), there is transparency with a refraction effect, and you do see geometry displacement. However, the displacement is a canned effect, and the water doesn't react to objects moving in it.

Strangely, in the other clips from deepbrown, the geometry does get affected by motion, but the reflections aren't dynamic.

Hopefully the final game has the best of both worlds, though maybe it's an art decision where the real reflections didn't have enough sparkle and variance in reflection due to muddy surroundings.

You've given me nothing to think otherwise. If I believed all previews, screenshots and developer comments, Lair, could have been goty. I'm not saying it won't be a good game (I actually expect it will be quite good), but without having played it, you're basically in the same boat as the rest of us, you don't know.

Still you're misreading me. I'm not saying I know that it's going to be AAA...everything I'm referring to is the content of the game...the gameplay, the look of it, the cutscenes and story. Everything there is to know about the game, without knowing that it's a sure fire 9/10 game.

When you go into a store and you see Resistance, Bioshock, Gears etc...and then you see Uncharted. This is what I'm getting at.

A NaughtyDog designer said the same thing ^_^
I prefer the water in deepbrown's gifs.

No doubt that the scenes shown have nice intensive gamepla a la' Indiana Jones but how well the whole game will I do not know as all others but the future seems bright as long as the nasty slowdowns and tearing in the latest videos.

I do it to but then so small gifs or images always make things look so much better than in fullscreen (native res ss that is).

No real 3D water deformation, instead it is a shader to simulate 3D ripples in a 2D plane. Such shaders are also used in Oblivion/Morrowind?, SP:pT and some other games with different quality.

So far of the games I have played FEAR, Crysis, Far Cry Predator (xbox360), STALKER has true 3D water in larger quantity.

wait...crisys have 3d water like lair?

Well... as long as it reacts realistically, I am fine. It reminds me of the Tekken 6 water effects. The submarine level should be interesting too.

The beta of Crysis in DX9 mode and high settings has full 3D water, refractions, transparency and incredible reflections asweel as light refraction. The DX10 mode shown in some videos has far better water with every little wave in full 3D and more detailed effects.

lair's water looks very simple compared to Crysis water especially since the waves in Lair are large "blocks" instead of as In crysis every little wave bump in 3D... plain sick I say.

Swimming under water is a joy since it looks almost excatly spot on from my scuba diving time...so real! :D

Well I have seen them in fullres and they look better than that, I only provided you with poor gifs as I thought that's all you'd need. I could provide with HD videos, but hey why don't you do the work?

I have seen the full size HD videos thus my comment on the gifs! ;)
