There is NOTHING like this, at this quality anywhere else. Bright colours, strong graphics, good story, solid gameplay - a true delight from Naughty Dog and Sony need to get behind them and advertise the hell out of it.

The game isn't even out yet. The game could be a huge piece of crap. I highly doubt it, but I'm not prepared to make any bold claims until I can sit down and play it end to end.

Sorry, but these are your impressions from actually playing it? Or just from reading some previews (previews for the most part tend to be very positive) and watching some trailers?
It's an interesting looking game to me, the graphics are pretty good, but I really don't see how you can say all that much about the story and gameplay. From what I've seen it looks very much an updated tomb raider game with a few added elements and better graphics,(this is not an insult the original tomb raider was a goty). I'd hardly say there's nothing like it.
The water has correct reflections (which so many devs seems to seemed to skimp on these days), there is transparency with a refraction effect, and you do see geometry displacement. However, the displacement is a canned effect, and the water doesn't react to objects moving in it.Perfect glass throughout, with no transparency; no surface deformation, only normal displacement; limited ripple effect and weak particle effects. It's not bad, and not ugly, but isn't the greatest water ever. Certainly not a 'volumetric' water algorithm as some games are trying.
This is what I mean. My knowledge is not all formed through watching videos and looking at screenshots. It's amassed from developer blogs, 10's of previews and indepth interviews. DOn't presume I don't know what I'm talking about.
You've given me nothing to think otherwise. If I believed all previews, screenshots and developer comments, Lair, could have been goty. I'm not saying it won't be a good game (I actually expect it will be quite good), but without having played it, you're basically in the same boat as the rest of us, you don't know.

Strangely, in the other clips from deepbrown, the geometry does get affected by motion, but the reflections aren't dynamic.
Hopefully the final game has the best of both worlds, though maybe it's an art decision where the real reflections didn't have enough sparkle and variance in reflection due to muddy surroundings.
Still you're misreading me. I'm not saying I know that it's going to be AAA...everything I'm referring to is the content of the game...the gameplay, the look of it, the cutscenes and story. Everything there is to know about the game, without knowing that it's a sure fire 9/10 game.
When you go into a store and you see Resistance, Bioshock, Gears etc...and then you see Uncharted. This is what I'm getting at.
I prefer the water in deepbrown's gifs.
No real 3D water deformation, instead it is a shader to simulate 3D ripples in a 2D plane. Such shaders are also used in Oblivion/Morrowind?, SPT and some other games with different quality.
So far of the games I have played FEAR, Crysis, Far Cry Predator (xbox360), STALKER has true 3D water in larger quantity.
I do it to but then so small gifs or images always make things look so much better than in fullscreen (native res ss that is).
wait...crisys have 3d water like lair?
No doubt that the scenes shown have nice intensive gamepla a la' Indiana Jones but how well the whole game will I do not know as all others but the future seems bright as long as the nasty slowdowns and tearing in the latest videos.

Well I have seen them in fullres and they look better than that, I only provided you with poor gifs as I thought that's all you'd need. I could provide with HD videos, but hey why don't you do the work?
