Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

dont think so. "And these cut scenes are rendered in real-time, too."
the lighting, shadows, clouds, beautiful water shader as well as high poly models are making it So CG! now that i did remeber they said nothing will be cg in the game, it's just so hard to belive with shots like these.

The lighting, water and high poly models are all the same in the game. I somehow dont think the shadows are as smooth as that though....

Oh and I don't know if our resident Naughty Dogger is still here...but if you're reading this. There is too much Uncharted media. Ninja Theory showed far too much of Heavenly Sword as well...now this doesn't particularly impact badly on gamers, but it does on reviewers.

When they play a game for reviewing, they rush through it...and if they've seen a section before, or an original "WTF" moment already, then their "OMG" feeling is lost, and the reviewer will review it too critically, and not like somebody who has experienced the game for the first time - just like the public will.

Yes, but that doesn't excite me nearly as much as it apparently excites you.

You can have high hopes, I'll wait to see a playable demo and/or some reviews. Standing out from the crowd always has inherent risks.

I'm glad you're glad, it changes nothing I've said. Sales will tell us if this is what next gen has been screaming for.

I'm not sure how mainstream follows with standing out from the crowd. It appears they are trying to do a lot of things with combat and movement and alot is going depend on it all coming together cohesively without breaking immersion. There's a risk.

I hope they pull it off.

Naughty Dog - you know the guys that almost revolutionized animation in games? Creating some of the funnest platformers around? Oh and on the team...who do we have? Two proffessionals who worked on the Soul Reaver games - who created some of the best puzzles and stories in gaming. And have now been set free with Naughty Dog. Oh and the guy who programmed the camera for Prince of Persia The Sands of Time. If you have a team that's going to accompish something big - this is the one.

Sales have nothing to do with whether it has brought new things to this generation.

It's mainstream because it's a Teen game, and it's an Indiana Jones movie.

Models seem the same lighting a bit different but the water is completly different (cutscene vs gameplay). Also shadows look less detailed ingame, the edges are blocky/pixelated ingame vs the cutscenes judging by the other newer videos. Some ofthose videos have been shown some time ago to or similar almost same material.

I must give say the cinematic direction of the cutscenes are excellent and 'vivid'. The water is excellent to in the cutscene and perhaps the gameplay on the boat (a bit hard to see it on my TV) to since there is not that much rendered. But it is not the same as the other ingame scenes.
Reminds me though of Halo2's cinematics vs ingame, I spent more time watching them than playing!

I dont know now if I missed something but it seems the animations are worse than initial showcases. Looks unatural and well IMO quite bad, "floaty" and "wiggly". Now if they can fix the framerate and enable vsync.

Wow, I can't believe those screenshots are form a realtime cutscene, from what I've seen the water doesn't look that good ingame though.

The ocean does look like that ingame from the videos of it that I have seen. They have lots of different types of water if you didn't know, that they are working on separately. The Ocean is one of them...and I have seen videos of the ocean, and it looks like that.

Honestly wait until you get the game...you'll see :)

Huh yeah didn't I say it seemed that the gameplay section on the boat seems to have same or similar water (ocean). Neverthless the non ocean water is far off from that shown in videos such as the dungeon fighting, jungel fights etc. :p

It's a deal! :D

Just shush now. I really think the water will impress you, as long as you're not expecting it to be 3d.

I don't care if it has carmack, molyneux, newell and garriott on the team as well.

How does being a 'Teen game' make something mainstream?

Now young man, don't shush me... ;)

Im shure it will impress me and no im not expecting 3D water and honestly don't care much about water being 3D. What I care more about is how it looks from below to mimic my scuba dive tours. I'll shush now...

Firstly I must apologise for my novice misuse of "your" when I should have used "you're", but I must also point out your use of an 'h' in "sure".

Appologize accepted! ;)

I've never really thought about it...but will Drake have some underwater swimming sections aka tomb raider?

Im shure there will be some underwater parts in dungeons.

Different waters. Jayco's vid (nice linkage!) shows the jungle streams look very different. The geometry isn't too hot, but the shaders are very good and convincing. Sets a lovely atmosphere of cool water, though I don't feel the jungle is hot.

You're really jumping at me. I am presenting evidence that I can have a weighed and well supported conclusion that this game will be something special, that it will be of high quality, and will do things we haven't seen in the games of this generation. I can state this with almost certainty, and I say almost since I can't guarantee either it's final quality, or it's success. Being a philosopher though, a lot of reasoning needn't have the material/empirical certainty to come to a well-supported conclusion. I believe my view that Uncharted will be a solid title, and of a high quality is the right conclusion from the evidence. Going from your view (I am presuming your view), it seems we cannot make any predictions before a game is released no matter how strong the evidence.

Rated teen...meaning it's there for all ages. Though I suppose mature games are on the way up.

I'm just not ready to proclaim it goty, you apparently already have. The inclusion of various elements and a few decent looking videos don't necessarily make it out to be a blockbuster. I've said a number of times I believe it will be at least good.

Actually E means for all ages, teen means... teen... I'm not sure the exact difference between teen and mature in terms of what that means for content, but I doubt being teen would affect it much over being M in terms of sales, there's probably some impact both ways. Some may prefer the bit more that an M title would bring, Teen opens it up to a percent or 5 more buyers.

No, you're wrong. It is the greatest game of all time.

Actually, I'm more towards your line of thinking. There have been lots of videos released, but so far they've all been geared towards the graphics. It is a slick looking game, but personally I would have liked to see more videos focused on gameplay. Hopefully they're just trying to keep a lot of the game a secret, so the more interesting sequences of the game are not spoiled. For now, I think it'll probably be a pretty good game, but nothing about the gameplay mechanics look really exciting to me.

I've expressed my reservations to this title earlier in this thread also for much of the same reasons as AlphaWolf and deepbrown, but I have to say that I'm slowly warming to this game. If this turns out to be one of the first tomb raider / prince of persia type game with good fighting mechanics, a good story and extremely polished gameplay and graphics all in one, then I think I'll be in for it. It's unlikely to be game of the year because then it would have to compete with 10/10 games in a more popular genre (fps), though then again on the PS3 competition has been a little less ... competitive. ;)

the video jayco linked to above has a good mix of gameplays, all from that first level. The fire-fights are much improved from early showings. Enemy AI is better, along with bullets actually having real effects! The gun hasn't got the 'natural' aiming that in its earliest days I thought it had. It can be held rock-steady rather than moving around a bit. That's probably a good thing from a game-players perspective, but my peculiar tastes would have preferred a more natural approach.

It is a game that has appealed to me, I think as much due to the story and anims as anything. I'm not a fan at all of the 'platformy' aspects. Ledge crawling has never sat well with me in any game. I dislike the 'spot the regularly spaced outcroppings' minigame with the occasional 'you guessed wrong!' plummet to the ground! I think I'd be okay putting up with that for the game's experience though.

I personally hope there's more platforming and puzzles than shooting...but that's me.

Oh and watch those five videos if you dare (maybe miss of the last one...it's just too good). There's some truly breathtaking things in it.

And Alphawolf, I never said it would be GOTY - that would mean I would have to put it ahead of other games, whereas I can't guarantee that. I'm just syaing the potential is there - I said the same about BioShock and I say the same about Mass Effect. Quality can be seen from a mile off.

Plus GOTY is attributed by different places, so a game could be COTY at one review place or award, and not at another. A definitive 'this is the best game of the year' award can never be given as its always a subjective measure!

Doesn't game of the year mean "Hey you bought our bug infested game in your millions, here's one without the bugs that you can buy again if you like..... we added a map for you"
