Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio to develop Xbox 360 Splinter Cell

Currently in the pipeline are Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (out Thursday, with the DS version available Dec. 8) and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 4 (spring 2006). The Montreal studio is making the PlayStation 2, Xbox and PSP versions of Splinter Cell 4 while the PC and Xbox 360 versions are being made in Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio.

Strange, Maybe those rumours were true about Splinter Cell 5 being developed from the ground up on PS3 by Ubisoft Montreal? I think it was in a US gaming magazine, PSM??

what does that have to do with the PS3 rumour? Montreal is working on the current consoles, and Shanghai is working on the 360/PC version. Both studios should be done at around the same time.

NOOOooooooooooooooooooo!

SC1 and 3 were done by Montreal and the quality and feel of the game are higher than for the Shanghai developed SC2. Better that they give this gen console stuff to Shanghai and let Montreal focus on that the Next gen stuff

That's what I was thinking, it doesn't make sense, you would have thought Montreal would've taken Sam into the new generation as they are at a higher level than Shanghai, imo.

I seriously think that Montreal will make the SC5 game. And that this game will be made from the underground up. SC5 will be when most people will say WOW! Late 2007 release probably.

I wouldn't count Shanghai out they did come up with a great multiplayer for splintercell2

They are probably using the modified UE2 from chaos theory, and Shanghai is probably just making the high end art, I'm sure the story and gameplay elements that the Montreal came up with will be used

It does suck that they won't have a next gen splintercell built from the ground up for a while, but at least they are not using a port of the xbox version for the pc and 360

It's not that SC 2 was bad, it just totally lacked innovation in the SP.

SC3 just blew it out of the water, like completely, with the graphics, AI, weather systems, etc..

Hopefully a fresh coat of paint and a new setting(jail!) will provide enough innovation for SC4 while we wait for the true masters out east to craft the true sequal to SC 3! :devilish:

WTF, we didn't make a DS version of POP3. They probably mean PC.
I guess they're talking about Battles of Prince of Persia.

We? Who is we? You work for Ubisoft? Are you helping to make Prince of Persia?

Yes. I'm a level artist.

Likely. It's poorly worded though, as it makes it look like there's a DS version of The Two Thrones.

This series is great and all, but I think they're pumping them out too quickly. Not enough time between titles, the first SC came out Nov 2002. I just think that if they took more time, the games could be even better. I'm worried this series is going to be stretched too thin.

To be fair, SC3 was in development since the end of the first game. Shanghai was already making PT near the end of SC, and Montreal was working away at CT while development of PT was going on.
