Tom Clancy's The Division [PS4, XO]

i dont watch this and go WOWWW. I just dont. I go man that looks really great! But not wow.

But very nice looking game yeah.

Some of the BF4 stuff is just way way above this, but then again this is open world (although, it looks kinda guided whats been shown, and BF4 looks just crazy in MP too)

GAF is down so I cant get the gif of the plane sliding by in BF4, but that part's insane

I watched the direct feed from gamersyde again...it does look wow. All the crazy details are insane, look e.g. at the water bottle when they enter the police station...

Look at how the character actually picks up the water bottle. He also closes the car door when moving behind the cover. Great context sensitive animation system there.

Yeah, this particular scene reminded me of the Last of Us demo: subtle context sensitive animations that just fully immerse you.

I can't say I was blown away either. It looks very good but I can honestly say I'm playing a game right now (I'm naming nothing to avoid comparisons) that I pretty much say "wow" to every time I fire it up. I'm not getting that from this video.

Which game is it? I played all AAA tec games available on PC at max settings. Crysis 3 did wow me. But the Division is really next gen stuff imo.

All I'll say is it's not Crysis 3 but I am playing in 3D (which counts for a hell of a lot). I'll also add that I could make a similar statement (to my previous post) about the previous game I played as well.

When i first watched it I didnt say wow. Then I went back and watched over and over... The best scene was while they were walking down the side street toward the police station. The ambient but dimming lighting, showing an afternoon on a street with no western sunset exposure, the slush in the street, the garbage, the wind moving things in the street, were damn near perfect.

Truly visually amazing in detail.

There are scenes in Watchdogs which look this good too. The skin shaders on the human traffickers face is the best i have seen in any generation.

BF4 has a different more visceral quality to it...

?

That was obviously CGI.

My ultimate dream is to have an mmo game like this set in a city in which you can enter each and every single door and building. Free for all deathmatch. DayZ/I am Legend style of survival.

Yes, the Watchdogs cinematic trailer was rendered on our farm of PCs running Arnold ;)

I really hope its is something like RF online or shattered galaxy where you have 3 factions fighting for a area or in this case a city.

Each faction has a starting zone which can't be taken. Every week the faction that owns the most zones gets a bonus the next week. Extra currency or exp. This is where the three faction parts come in when one factions gets to large the two other can form a temp alliance to take the biggest faction down. And share the bonus that is weaker but should give a good boost to both of the factions in the alliance.

Or something like Eve with gangs and stuff instead of corporations.

Yes! I've been looking for an explanation as to why this is so limited or sparsely used currently and what it takes to do that type of context sensitive animation properly? What's the limiting factor or factors? Namely when it comes to picking up objects.

Yeah, this particular scene reminded me of the Last of Us demo: subtle context sensitive animations that just fully immerse you.

No! Without a doubt the poor generic animations when picking up objects (1 for standing, 1 for crouching) is one of the most annoying omissions to me for TLoU (a weird pet peeve of mine). One of the first things that stood out to me in the recent footage and then when playing the demo. Joel doesn't actually pick up an object, he just extends his hand straightforward and does a swooping motion. When crouching it's a similar generic, sweeping motion. Just to be clear, I've found the animation just about everywhere else to be quite lovely.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with programming animation engines, but I'm quite sure it requires an advanced system combining real time inverse kinematics, blended with motion capture animations, and lots of level designer work to place some sort of invisible hint boxes or such.

And yeah, have to agree about Last of Us, I'm really in love with all the visual stuff in that game but it certainly is behind Division in this context aware stuff.

Reach and pickup is really hard to do well, there are actually research papers on the subject.
The problem is that IK rarely looks natural and blending it with canned animation doesn't improve that.

The most interesting approach I've seen uses a weighted blend of 100's or more captured animations. It's more like a search algorithm than a a physical simulation, and I think that approach has a lot of merit in general.

the graphics are very good but imo not as amazing as people are making out just cause they heard "PS4" somewhere.

It's not so far from Watch Dogs or something like that.

disagree...

+1...it looks next gen not super next gen...it doesn't look Infiltrator level next gen which IS without a doubt friggen amazing.

That is interesting indeed!

From the technology standpoint C3 does everything Division does and more.
But i have to agree that Division has very high quality assets, looks like very expensive game indeed. Best looking next-gen title on conferences hands downs.
BF4 is on second place, even tough 60fps is very impressive.

Also i still dont get it, why its not announced for PC, seems like perfect game for PC audience.

Yeeah, this is really weird! I mean, if you have a next gen multiplat title...it should be easy to release it on PC as well...why not?!?
