The Last Guardian (Trico, Ico 3, Shadow of the Colossus sequel, etc.) [PS4]

will be hilarious if we found a changelog on the disc and it says

2007 - demo for TGS and E3
2008 - 2014 - holiday
2015 - E3 2015 demo

but japan developer usually tend to be serious and wont hide something like that except if its kojima game :p

I'm honestly not seeing much in terms of "flat shaded polygons" here. Geometry looks quite detailed I think (all the wooden planks with the splintered edges, nicely rounded tree trunks, protruding floor tiles everywhere, not to mention the wonderfully detailed creature). No distracting LoDs either. The polygonal origins are quite frankly a good deal less obvious than in, let's say, The Witcher III (and certainly a whole lot less obvious than in just about any PS3 game I can think of) It's certainly not the most showy game out there, but it's quite beatiful all the same. That means it's pretty much in line with Ueda's past endeavors. Then there's of course the impeccable creature animation. It's incredibly well observed.

What I didn't like about the demo is the blasted gamma curve for exterior environment (Knack did the same thing)

There is nothing wrong with expecting that a game that has been in development for years, from a team that has not released a game in 10 years, should be at the very least treated with the same attention to detail that we have come to expect this generation.

Am I saying that I won't buy it? Of course I will, ICO and SOTC were true gems. Am I allowed to say that my brain doesn't like to see big fat flat shaded polygons coming out of my PS4? Yes, I am!
It wasn't in development for 10 years.

Following the quotes from Yoshida, it was in development hell for PS3, then they "shelved it". When asked about it repeatedly every year, he said it's not "canceled" but they are no longer working on it. The time they didn't work on it until they could get their act together and restart the project on PS4 doesn't count as "development hell" it's called "on hiatus".

This is more like an HD port PS4 upgrade of an unfinished PS3 games that was never released. I'm very happy they decided to finish it and I don't expect it to look like Uncharted 4.

And so did Ico and SotC, so I'm afraid that's the way it's gonna be. Looks a bit like applying a bleach bypass process to film. (a process Spielberg is incredibly fond of) I quite like it too, so no complaints from me.

Does that mean that now it's a hiatus interruptus?

(that one will go over a lot of people's heads)

Game is as promising as ever. But the kids movement seemed awkward, not 360 grades smooth, feels restricted to 8 directions, so that you could see the player struggling to not fall the map edges, strange when it´s a game where you have to be precise in the platforming. Maybe it was only the camera making it more difficult.

Did anyone else thought Sony was trolling TLG PS3 footage first, then would cut into with PS4 footage? Only to realize Sony is just trolling...

I kept waiting for the wow moment. Watching the conference again, I think even the live audience was a little subdued after the initial cheering once they got into the gameplay like they were thinking WTF!

Btw, this was what I meant... Just look at those flat ugly things! What is this, 1995?

This is my FB status right now :
So glad that The Last Guardian is back and Fumeto Ueda has confirmed that he, along with the rest of Team ICO members , have been working on it since summer 2014.
The Magic of ICO and Shadow of The Colossus has to , has to live on ! Some games are good, some great , some exceptional, but Team ICO's games are magical ..surreal pseudo worlds that ur mind can inhabit !!!

Thank you again Sony for funding such games, for caring for the gaming dream ! For gaming is not just a business, its has the magic that this universe bestowed on all art, a magic that connects to us on our human level, sans lingual barriers. It has the magic that communicates without the use of language and there in lies the secret of touching us on deeper level, beyond words, beyond symbolism....... the untouched self.

and going by the Ueda interview I posted two pages back, they have been working on it since summer 2014, so its what it is. and it was always a puzzle game, we have already seen the boy distracting temple guards earlier and the game was always about this living breathing creature and an anime-like animated 2d-ish rendered boy. Which is what he moves like even now.

The fact is that a masterpiece, a game beyond a game, a successor of SOTC has been revived from going dead forever. If that is not enough, and I think it must have been a major effort from Sony to get the Team ICO back together after disbanding to continue this, then I don't agree with you. The biggest achievement here is that the same old team is back at it, which is a mammoth achievement. If you loved SOTC, then this in itself has been a news to bring back life into your lungs. If you thought of SOTC as a sparse world with nothing to do but to kill giants in a certain order, then it wouldn't mean anything anyways.

This is about what it is about: Team ICO back again with what could have never been playable ! Kudos Sony and Shu Yoshida for doing this. Kudos Sony for supporting Dreams and Journey and this !

Reminds me of that Witcher screenshot where folks managed to somehow miss the lovely character model of the Bloody Baron because the wall in the back wasn't tesselated or something.

Well, I just hope it's gonna be good. I'm actually okay if the creature is really just a largely scripted, magnificent looking puzzle mechanic. A really big and fluffy version of Yorda if you will. They just have to sell it the right way, and judging by the trailer, I think they're on the right track.
