The G92 Architecture Rumours & Speculation Thread

How can we say it's the same size without actually knowing the scale of those images? Am I missing something? :)
No, I don't think you are. However, I've seen mechanical drawings somewhat similar to those for other related PCBs, and the only thing putting me off thinking they're legit is that the first is a bit bare.

1200 pins vs ~1500 (cheers, fma!) for G80, with a similar BGA layout makes me hmm a bit more, too.

Based on rumour info

G92 used 65 nm technology but core clock is 800+ MHz
G80 used 90nm technology and core clock is 500 Mhz

We can expected same heat ?

So is it a fairly solid rumor now that Nvidia is abandoning slow and wide in favor of fast and narrow (ala ATI the past few years?) at least for G92?

SB

Do you think screws would also scale down? The capacitors(?) on the right, also look same in size like the ones near G80-package.

But this seems to be a good example for NVs information-politics: as AIB you maybe got only the needed informations(pin-layout,...) to build the PCB, but you do not know what exactly is on the package you will solder on it.

Looks like this could be a cause of the multi-die-package-rumors, but in the end it will maybe the 17x17mm2 thing, what CJ mentioned. Which blend a bit to something, what a user announced some time ago:
me more waiting for G90 @ 65nm with 192 improved SP running at 2,5GHz to replace my GTX at end of the year :p
Which blends again with the funny multi-die-package-rumors from China about a 2x6TPCs-setup (=192SPs):

But lets see, November is not so far away, so something serious should hit the net in the next weeks...

Thanks for the G80 package, that answers my previous question... :)

Anyway, I already told you what I believe G92 to be via PM, no reason for me to reiterate that. I still see no reason not to believe something along those lines.

Narrow like Scalar and Fast like 1.35 GHz?

Which of ATI's architectures do you consider narrow compared to the competition?

G9x is probably going to be both wider and faster than G8x.

Then the rumours of a GX2 stlye card in Q1 would not make sence would it?

How long did it took to replace the 7900 GTX at the top of Nvidia's high-end with the 7950 GX2 ?
Not much more than 3 months, right ?

And yet both continued to sell side-by-side long after that, at least until February/March of this year (and 3 to 4 months into the 8800's shelf life).

The rumours of the "GX2" style card seem to imply a "dual G92". Now with that said, a G92 X2 in Q1 would not make much sence now would it if a higher end core is to dabute in November, in which BTW, we have not heard anything about.

But technically, both 7900GTX and 7950GX2 used the same chip. (Although the GX2 used the mobile version of G71 i.e G71M?, it still boasted the same specification as G71)

Unless we see cherry picked G92s being used to replace 8800GTX, by being clocked to over 800MHz+ paired with fastest GDDR3/4.
