The Framerate Analysis Thread part 2

What's in the brackets is the overscan right? AlStrong said it was a soft-vsync on 360.

EDIT: huh, would have thought that insane missile attack by the boss would have been the low point but it's still pushing 20fps on both :)

thats the "real" slow point during gameplay, the 'min' framerate is more artificial as its the explosion at the end where PG obviously went for an all out mofo crazy ass explosion

hi ps360, can you do a check on DR2 case zero? Some ppl say the old 360 has frame rate issue but not on the new 360 s.

you using the 360 s? I palyed it on my old system, does seems horrible, the game seems to move slowere than the original game, not sure if it has something to do with the leveling system.

No, an original 360 but Microsoft invested in actual silicon to ensure the 360 S runs games at the same performance as the original 360 does. Both systems run every other game exactly the same so there's no way that's going to be any different in this one particular game.

Oh, and yes the framerate really is horrible, one of the worst I've experienced in a long time, some people just aren't noticing it as much as others and are trying to come up with an inane way to explain why.

could be an issue with streaming. does the framerate slowdown or more like stuttering. the XBLA Shank actually has this issue because older consoles supposedly load slower but i think its a problem with fragmented data because a 20gb will become alot more fragmented than larger storage devices.

i dont know the underlying tech behind DR2, but if its mt framework it generally doesnt stream load.

It wasn't stuttering and it wasn't happening when moving to new areas, the framerate was just poor and gets progressively worse the more stuff there is on screen. Tilting the camera to different viewpoints can trigger a huge drop in framerate, so no, its got nothing to do with streaming imo. The textures are super low resolution anyway, and it has load times between areas, so there doesn't seem to be much fancy streaming tech. being utilised.

is the framerate uncapped? cause sometimes that makes a game look worse simply because inconsistency.

Nope, capped at 30fps. I think its just a really bad game engine, I mean, it looks like complete ass as well (much worse than the original Dead Rising) and the developers behind the game haven't exactly got much experience in modern multiplatform development. On the bright side there's a cheap PC version available at launch so the full game won't be spoiled through the might of sheer brute force but its hardly ideal. I'll be interested to see how the PS3 version turns out, I don't hold out much hope.

Dead Rising 2?

I think they focus most on rendering lots of polygons for all characters so that will make other graphical areas suffer (DR was polygon intensive).

Sure, but so did the original Dead Rising and that didn't look nearly as bad as this. To put things into perspective as to how bad the engine is, even in cutscenes with one character on the screen it struggles to maintain 30fps.

That appears to be it, they traded 0.4 avg fps for triple buffering. I'd say it's a decent tradeoff, though on this title the overall framerate ain't that great.

how does the 360 version compare to PS3? Some reviews like IGN said its better but both seems to have trouble running the game. But thats IGN.
