The E3 Thread! Who will come out on top?

Above average conference but very strong list of games this fall. They just focused on this fall with RE5 on top. No price drop.

RE5 is not coming this fall though.

Now I would like to answer "who will not come on top?" question.

Nevermind...

I meant with RE5 on top like cherry on top or icing on the cake, meaning fantastic lineup this year plus RE5 to look forward to next year running great on a 360 already ;)

A lot of great games from MS, but nothing special. They probably figured they couldn't top all the first party games and announcements from the other guys...

Oh, well, save the real stuff for X07 then. ;)

Sony will rule. :)

After watching Killzone 2 trailer, i cant imagine what else will be shown at Sonys pressconf... Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet, MGS4, possibly UT3...

Sony willcome on the top IMO.

[except, if Nintendo makes a miracle]

I suspect Sony will also show off new hardware (a PSP redesign?).

I can't see a lot of surprises coming from Nintendo (a cam?)...

I think Microsoft is consciously holding back for X07, partly because they are in what they feel is a comfortable position, and then it pays to play it conservatively, wait for Sony's E3 keynote, and then create a measured response for X07. Sony is a big opponent and you can't fight them on all fronts at once, so what better than wait to see what they've got, and then see where you can fight back most effectively on the short term.

I'm assuming that Sony has less reason to do so. They don't need to really fight Microsoft, so much as convince their existing fanbase that the PS3 is what they've come to expect after the PS1 and PS2. They sort of can consider themselves their biggest opponents, and only look at Microsoft and Nintendo for inspiration how to beat that opponent. I know that sounds weird, but that's the best way to do it. Nintendo does it too, in a sense. And Microsoft was when they introduced Live, but maybe less so right now.

Nintendo is definitely the public's favorite, and they may have an easier time to shine. Nobody now expects more than great gameplay innovations from them, and that's all they've had to focus on. So I'm sure they'll be able to deliver some cool stuff that the fans will love, and create a few new fans too. I'm sure some of the new fans will cost them some of the old, but the question is how many? Probably not too many, really.

Consumers are definitely winning. I'm 100% sure that there are plenty of consumers who are getting exactly what they want from at least one of the three major parties here. And 2007 as well as 2008 look like great years for gaming!

Who will come out on top? Nintendo of course, just look at the sales numbers. No further wisdom needed. Both MS and Sony are losing many, many millions on their HW and they're in for a loooong ride with this gen.

You seem to not understand the thread.

The thread is about who will come out on top as far as making the biggest impact or splash at E3. Not who is going to harvest the most money.

They should! Their games team is twice the size of MS or N's.

My prediction:
Sony #1
MS #2
N #3

Nintendo's showing won't be much, but their 3rd party support will be the key point for them. I expect nearly every 3rd party dev will have something in the works for Wii.

MS will finally show their hand with Halo single player campaign, but few surprises. NG2 would be sweet but I'm not expecting much. IMO this will be by design. They will want the focus on this year as they have many great games coming right around the corner that they will want to highlight at e3.

Sony will want to show off quite a bit of longterm games (2008 etc) in hopes to hold off purchases and or keep in the publics eye. KZ2 should make an appearance and I expect Drake will walk away with game of the show. Overall, I expect many known and unknown showings from Sony to keep themselves in the limelight and reestablish ps3 as the premier game console.

Looks like I was pretty close with my prediction. I still expect to see more of Drake as it should be on the shelves this year and should be quite impressive.

Oh well. That's rather impossible to predict, since we don't know all about what the 3rd parties have been developing.

Agreed. Sony definitely #1, Microsoft and Nintendo probably a close tie. Microsoft really did have a lot of games, but no surprises, whereas Nintendo didn't have that many games, but I did like the wii-feet or whatever the new device is called that measures your centre of gravity. Because of its potential (which I'm not expecting to be fullfilled anytime soon), and because Mario Galaxy looked a little better than I expected (didn't expect that much), and because I found myself liking Zelda DS, I think they are tied for #2. (But probably a lot of people will rank Nintendo #3)

Sony wins this time.

They showed bunch of 1st and 3rd party games, with prenomenal MGS4, GT5 Prilogue and entire level of Killzone 2. UT3 is time exlusive, NC Soft is bringing exclusive MMOS and that game Infamous looked incredible.

I didn't watch the Nintendo one.

But from MS and Sony, they accomplished different things. MS basically came out and said "it's about games and we have them." You'd be VERY hard pressed to challenge their line up for the rest of 2007. Also consider their 60fps advantage in all EA sports games and exclusive GTA4 episodes.

Sony did what they had to do. Try to get people to buy their console and more importantly get them to hold off from getting a 360 this holiday season with a lot of promises for 2008. Their lineup for 2007 isn't as great as MS' so they focused on long term just as much this year.

In the end, owning both consoles is the best way to enjoy this generation. I'm quite excited about finally having a some PS3 games to play. Ofcourse this is on top of the 8 360 games I'll have purchased by the end of 2007. Good times!

well in my eyes the real e3 died last year along with its "meaningful" titles such as "best game at e3" and "best conference of e3".

Seems like a pretty boring E3 so far. MS shows off more of the same games we've heard of and seen many times. Nintendo and Sony's surprises were hardly a surprise since they've been rumored for so long that I believed them anyway. We know about Halo 3, GTA, and MGS already! How about something unexpected? NOT Wii fit!!!!

Sony won by default after the two preceding deceptions. Killzone 2 is the game of the show IMO. They showed a very strong 1st and 2nd party line up.
Microsoft comes second. Mass Effect and Halo3 mainly.
Nintendo...well...

I'm surprised someone who appreciates good graphics would find a negative thing to say about what was apparently shown of GT5 Prologue there :p

Laa-Yosh is an artist, and most of the artists I know hate the "boring realism" visual genre with a passion.

(I am a programmer, and I love it ;-) )
