The Big Forza 2 Thread *

D'you think they decided to try and cram it onto one DVD?

Seriously though, this is the kind of game that can actually run into space issues. However, I think that the rest is just going to be available as extra content, and finally they probably wanted a racer that looks great, and really feel they need to get it to the market, as they may have been taken by surprise by the GT:HD downloadable demo?

Maybe they are now sharing the graphics engine with PGR4? Hence 8 cars?

Other than that, I'm ok with these downgrades, as long as the game feels right, it'll be fine imho.

I doubt they would change the game engine so late in production.

My theory is that they changed the amount of cars, so they can have better detail on the remaining cars.
(maybe they, like everybody else saw GT:HD and their jaws dropped)

If they remove the Nurb' I will not be a happy camper.. :devilish:
Racing in Rio de Janeiro would be awesome, too.:devilish: They should learn not to promise stuff that isn't done yet - even if the game is awesome, it still will be a disappointment. Fable comes to my mind (not that the game was awesome by itself, but Molyneux totally overpromised)

Based on the recent changes on the Xbox.com site as well as comments by Che, the FM2 community manager, it seems Forza Motorsport 2 has been hit by a pretty big "downgrade grenade" (he he must mock other sites). The major ones that are sticking out:

- 12 cars (racers) reduced to 8 cars (racers)
- 4xMSAA reduced to 2xMSAA
- "Over 60 tracks" reduced to "Over 45 tracks"
- "18 environments" reduced to "12 environments"
- "13 real-world licensed circuits" reduced to "several real-world licensed circuits"

Only the 8 cars has been confirmed, but I wouldn't expect a reply for Turn10 as they have been avoiding all these questions on their forums. Kind of dissappointing imo. I can understand a delay, but cutting a lot of features and content as well? FM1 was a great first effort, I just wish someone at MS was beating the dead horse, "1st party titles are intended to be flagship titles that sell the platform and differentiate it".

Hopefully the downgrade grenade was a dud and this isn't true, but considering their dev schedule (FM1 was released in May 2005; the tight schedule is emphasized by lack of media and CGIs) and the task of creating a flagship racer in an original 18 month window I don't think this is surprising

disappointing but is it fixed 60fps that the game is running at???

All this means is that instead of making the game be delayed (longer) they will add that content after it is out as downloads. Other then the drop of in the number of cars and FSAA, this seems like some pretty normal considerations. The number of cars/FSAA is probably is performance related, with the rest of the changes being time related.

they better make them free :devilish:

Considering they don't have the threat of a GT competition anytime soon, I rather they relax and work on the game as intended than to cut corners just to fit a time frame.

Hmm, depends. If they release the game and it is good, then the 360 will have something out there that I'm potentially interested in. If they wait until the next GT is released, then I'm rather likely just to get that instead and not bother with Forza 2 at all. For me it would by far be the best thing if GT and Forza releases are as far apart as possible. :D Provided of course that both games get it right (Forza still has to prove itself to me, but it certainly has potential, and for many others its already a great thing).

You can't keep games endlessly in development right? there's a point where you have to say, will this extra content be worth the development time, money invovled and increase sales of the product. I doubt any of the items listed will drastically affect the sales of the product.

Agreed, Forza 1 was delayed twice I believe, seems to be Turn 10's m.o., I was really looking forward to nice 4xAA on this title, and the variety oif tracks is a big deal imo, they shouldn't be cutting those just to make a spring deadline.

As much as I'm dying to play Forza, I have mixed emotions, Spring should be pretty great for high quality games, so maybe I can wait....then again :devilish:

are there a lot of differences between 4xMSAA and 2xMSAA

edit: By the way, does anyone know if current gen consoles are capable of Global Illumination??? i heard in a report from forzamotorsport.net like a year ago that this game will have GI, which i really doubted
