Yep, the Watermark makes it exclusive.

The watermark is not only for exclusives but it is also there to ensure when people hotlink IGN gets exposure. Bandwidth costs money... so if people are going to use their bandwidth they want something out of it. Fair trade imo.

would look nice on its side its sleak and a step up from the ps2 and xbox

And a huge step up from the purple cube. ;) My platnium cube is cute looking tho, not sleek but cute.

Wow I really like this design... and I like these rumors from IGN:

- Halo 2.5 (graphical upgraded) bundled with X2 HDD
- Launch titles in waves
- Some decent racers available at launch
- PD0 launch title

I like the HDD idea (how they have it plug in), and if they ship it at launch and bundle it with Halo 2.5, well, that just seems like a really great idea. If that is a X2 LIVE! / HDD / Halo 2.5 bundle that would be great.

One thing I worry about: Live w/o a HDD. How do you do patches, new maps, microtransactions, etc... without a HDD?

I disagree and not the fact that i think the gamecube looks the best. But clearly nintendo went for something completely diffrent than sony / ms did and will most likely continue to do

I really like my gamecube , its small and its everywhere and while it doesn't look sleak it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb (i have a black one ) and ist much more dorable than the others

Look real to me.

Regarding X360s design ... yuck, I don't like it. IMHO unimaginative, plain, boring, unrecognizable. Well, at least it seems to be smaller than its predecessor ... then again its not stackable, meh. Given the power-hunger of its setup, I am sure they moved the PSU into an external device.

Um how can u have something sleek and stream lined and imaginative , exciting and nt plain ? it goes against sleek and stream lined.

The ps2 didn't stick out either , it was one rectangle ontop of a smaller rectangle .

That drive would seem to correspond to a 2.5" notebook drive - SATA would certainly be easier to facilitate removability at full speed operations than PATA would.

mabye to get more people to buy the add on hardrive they will add a screen and mp3 play back functions

It doesn't look good from the othographic view, but the other angle shot it seems to look alright. I need to see it first hand before passing final judgement :)

Who says the controllers are IR? Maybe the IR is just for the remote control? It seems to me bluetooth would be the obvious choice for the controllers.
I don't think Bluetooth is a very good tech for controllers. The software interfacing is generally unintuitive (so it's gonna get limited adoption on other platforms), the range is too limited, there's too much overhead which adds lag, and MS could probably save money by going with another RF format.

When I first saw the Ourcolony pic, I assumed that it was a slide-in hard drive, but the new pic showing the whole side panel makes me wonder if it's rests flat against the unit. That would explain that button to the right of the "40GB" chrome plate.

The concave shape looks ugly and the power button is too big. Uggh where do they get these designers?

I agree with the comment about the curve. It's a bit too feminine for me (sorry but it makes it look too 'soft' - everyone keep your snarky comments to yourselves please. ;) ).

<Disregarding that looks are completely subjective>

Going for something completely different does not mean it automatically looks good.

I think my Xbox looks darn clunky.

I think the older PS2 looks monolithic and 'mean' much in the same way I think the new mustangs look 'mean'. I think the newer PS2s look smaller but less 'mean'. Still they both share very similiar simple/clean lines. I don't think they're stellar in looks but they aren't nearly as bad as the Xbox. I do think they are radically different than previous consoles - in other words, they are 'completely different'. I have never owned a PS2, new or old and I don't really plan on getting one at this point.

We all know you like your gamecube. :)

, its small

Yep, hence why I referred to it being 'cute'.

and its everywhere

It's hardly everywhere - remember, it's sold damn poorly. Unless you mean it fits anywhere? Then yes, I can agree to a point. I placed mine in a little cubby hole in my entertainment center. However I think the lack of a tray means the vertical height works against it even more. In other words, it's already quite tall, which means that when coupled with the way you drop a game disc in, limits its location even further.

The black would definately have been my second choice. But like I said, the purple one sucked. It's quite ghey in my opinion.

I presume you meant, durable and not adorable.

If that's important to you then cool. For me, it comes down to the games and that unfortunately is where I think the GCN falls short compared to its rivals.

Who says they have to support the full bluetooth protocol stack?

It's not like they supported the full USB protocol stack on the original xbox, despite the controllers being USB and the xbox implementing USB spec signalling layers, power, and hardware.

Then again, maybe they're going with Wireless USB. Which now that I think about it, is probably a much better choice.

What ever protocol they use for wireless controllers, it has to consume very little power.

Wireless USB has that covered.

Enabling more than 100 hours of continuous play, less than four milliseconds of latency, and an operating range of up to 10 meters or more, WirelessUSB is designed to meet the most rigorous challenges of any gaming profile.

Just a reminder for people that maybe don´t like the colour or maybe the shape. Apparently, Allard did talk a bit abouot "customization". There has been talks about changning the way the machine looks, with skins or maybe new shells etc etc...

So apparently, if you don´t like the colour... change it... :)

edit: Ohh yeah, I forgot, this is taken from Gamesradar:

Other scant details have also been revealed to us by our sources.

Apparently, as well as removable media for saving games, gamers will be able to save games onto their home computers via LAN networks.

Whether or not this will allow game saves to be swapped is still unclear however, as saves may be marked to users’ Gamertags.

Lastly, while the render of the finalised design is white, sources are adamant the outer shell of the Xbox 360 will be removable, allowing gamers to personalise their console with a wide range of alternate colours and designs. Specific colours aren’t yet confirmed, although the chrome model partially unveiled on viral marketing website Ourcolony.net yesterday is a genuine possibility.

Hey I like that idea! Kinda like having different FlexATX PC cases to choose from.
