Supposedly real design of Xbox 360

I doubt the IR is for the controllers.
Probably just for an IR remote for DVD and Media Center functionality.

Who says the controllers are IR? Maybe the IR is just for the remote control? It seems to me bluetooth would be the obvious choice for the controllers.

The IR sensor is quite recognizable. You have a point about the remotes, though, but it seems unnecessary.

It would be very unusual though in my opinion for the controllers not to be RF or some other form of non-line-of-sight technology.

IR is the only thing that everyone supports for things like universal remotes. So it seems reasonable to put an IR receiver in just for the remote control.

On the other hand, bluetooth seems like the no-brainer choice for controllers, since it's a widely supported standard for wireless input devices: mice, keyboards, game pads, headsets, etc.

Not that I know anything for sure, but that'd be my choices if I were designing it.

Ok, that makes sense, but I just find it odd that the IR sensor was important enough to be such a prominent feature in the design.

I guess we'll see soon enough.

I like it.

here's a large image of it from IGN

Well there's no point discussing whether it's real or not anymore - we've exhausted all angles. So what do you people think?

I'm kind of with Megadrive; I like it - but for me... i don't know, it seems almost lacking in personality somehow. I can't put my finger on it. BUT, it is waaaay ahead of the XBox, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being smaller than the first-gen PS3. Though I do have that weird feeling about 'no personality,' I think that Sony will have done really well if they beat the looks of this design, because this is a tough design to beat it seems.

Um, why would microsft put thier name in a "different" place other than the front of the unit? that simply isn't logical.

I don't think that Microsoft is interested in emblazoning their name all over the place on this console; it's better like this, IMO.

XBox for them is a brand - they can leave the word 'Microsoft' in the shadows.

Microsoft is thinking outside of the box.

Microsoft didn't make a big deal about putting thier name on the front of Xbox, yet they did have it in the plastic. Anyway, I won't beleive these shots unless I see the microsoft name on the front. Although the more recent pic fomr team xbxo does looks rather convincing.

I think the design is really nice, though i doubt whether it can stand like that, the base is not big enough to support it. A little nudge and that could be the end of your box.

Well, whatever - there's of course always the good possibility that this is indeed NOT the real 360, and it's good to keep that in mind. Something about this one just looks so plausible though...

are you guys kidding me?!!?!

The size of that power button alone.......

Anyhoo.... what are the memory slots doing on the box? Shouldn't those be on the controllers :?:

"now saving, please don't rem... battery dead", yeah that's what I always wanted from a console :p

lol very very good point

aside from that if next gen memory gards are also thumb drives it may be better to keep it on the console it self
