State your questions about the R300:

The Tyan card sucks crap:
http://www.tweakup.dk/article/31/dk/?PHPSESSID=81f66edd8757a20bc9a518346355e f11

nothing special at all with that overclock

an HIS Excalibur that I reviewed some time ago gave much better results than that, especially on the core 365 MHz instead of 345
and my ambient temp is way too high so with a betetr cooled case I would have gotten more

THIS is what I call a nice OC:

:D

but then again, those crap-for-brains Danes used the default test to try their OC
ever heard of CPU-limited? ;)

Sorry, I don't have any information on the multimedia stuff as I am strictly a D3D grunt I wasn't aware of this problem; I'll run it past our QA folks.

While you are running this by them, you might also want to let 'em know the latest DX9 RC0 drivers (MMC) for XP seem to disable Macrovision.

ATI's DVD player notices this, and does the right thing (i.e. says "Macrovision cant initialize. Aborting Playback"), but other DVD packages arent quite as smart. (*cough* mediaplayer, etc.etc.). Ya might want to run this by the folks in the lab to let 'em know a patch would be in order before we start seeing copies of Star Wars:Episode II DVDs for $4 :)

4$?

sheesh, a blank 2X DVD-R only costs me $0.83 in 100 pack spindles.

:)

Seriously though, you never even watch the movie to copy it. just a matter of ripping it, editing a couple of files to break protection, and then burning the VOBs back.

For example, after I bought my Pioneer DVR-104, I did a test with a DVD I own. Took less than 10 minutes to rip and edit the files, then 25 minutes to burn the 4GB back.

DVD needs more protection from copying than just Macrovision. Besides, I hate finding C-DILLA on my hard drive.

Perhaps he meant users copying the movie to VHS and selling the copies to their friends and neighbours etc. :)

Well, it is OT but there are too many ways to get there without sacrifying quality with VHS. There are already too many such copies available in various formats, some even with the original "not for public preview" overlaid.

The creators should be rewarded than being treated like that.

]OpenGL guy,

Did you get any answers/info for the problem? :D
I did, but that's about all I can say at the moment. I will add that our QA people have reproduced the problem.

Nice! That's good to know. Thanks for the info. Now all we can do is wait I suppose.. :)

And BTW, DVD is not working fine after I moved from 8500 to 9700 under 1280x960 100Hz refresh rate, I am forced to use 85Hz under 9700 to get quailty ATI hardware deinterlacing. 100Hz give me ugly jagged edges.
I have noticed the same. Actually it is not only with DVDs, it's with any media type.

...

Sorry for going totally out of subject, but this is the first time I have seen someone else noticing/writing about the same problem.

Dude! So -that's- what's going on with my system? I was wondering why SVCD-level mpg files were looking like dookie on my machine! I've got the desktop refresh rate locked at 100Hz, and the mpg files don't look right unless I run them double-sized. I used to run my desktop at 1152x864, only recently switched to 1280x960. I'll have to try running at 85Hz and see if that makes a difference.

And OpenGLGuy, whatever the specific reasons for the problem are, I think most folks here would agree that the responsible thing for ATI will be to either tell us that it's a fixable problem and keep us updated as to when it'll be fixed in the drivers, or tell us that it's hardwired limitation.

Have you called tech support? I'm sure they could answer your questions.

Digging up this oooooold thread.. I finally sent a notice about this issue to the Catalyst crew using the feedback form. Hopefully they do something about it..

OpenGL guy,

if you have any new info concerning this, do let us know.. :)

I was also about to dig up this thread.

The guys at ATi were very nice and said they would answer my question in time and that they were in the hands of the appropriate staff.

Here's the answer:
"You can find the answer to your questions in our whitepapers at www.ati.com"

Yeah thanks

I of course e-mailed them again and asked why they told me that when it obviously isn't there. I dunno why they ever said that in the first place, beats me.

Hehe.. Well, I tried to find some info on ATI's site about this odd issue, but didn't find anything. :(

I still hope to get an answer from the Catalyst crew, or OpenGL guy.. Though I know they are all probably super busy with all the DX9 stuff ATM. :-?

Try sireric at Rage3D forums, he has been most helpfull to me.

I'm stealth :)

On this issue, since OpenGL guy found the answer, I'll let him post further progress, since I have no info on it and don't think I can get any in the next few days (xmas and all).

And a happy Christmas to you all!
