*spin-off* Consoles & Censorship/Bannings/Ootrage/Cake

It's indeed "your problem" if you don't understand proper English definitions to words. I'm really surprised we're having this discussion at all.

Par for the course I say. Youtube has similar policies for video uploads.

Microsoft removes a video because someone is cursing, you compare it to YouTube that has millions of videos with people cursing.

Then you backtrack because you come to realize that what you started was wrong. Then you ask me to help explain where you went wrong.

Microsoft has their own set of rules that obviously doesn't compare to YouTube they ban you from services that have nothing to do with where you broke the rules. Afaik Google doesn't kill your Gmail if they close your Youtube channel, and if they did they would be just as wrong as Microsoft.

Both MS and YT have similar rules for video uploads, never said they were the exact same rules. What I did say was YT videos could be reported and removed if enough people complained. In fact nudity is actually allowed on YT for educational purposes but many of these videos have a warning of the material content before clicking.

I have no opinion on how MS bans users and services when they break the rules as I don't actually care.

Yes they have rules, but in this case it was someone swearing that apparently caused him to banned. My problem with your post is that you pointed to YT as an example of a service that has similar rules. Which is very very evident they have not.

We can easily agree on both services having rules, but that wasn't the point with this hopeless discussion.

It does have similar rules. Googles guidelines for what is acceptable and what may incur a ban...

http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines

Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone being physically hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don't post it.

Just to show they ban violent videos as well as videos with nudity. If people complain.

We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. But we don't permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity).

Yes, they will ban based on what people say. Do we know if the person that was banned was only swearing? Or was he swearing in conjunction with racial epitaphs? "I have a Mother-F***ing N***** lover living next door." is likely to get you banned.

Things like predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people’s personal information, and inciting others to commit violent acts or to violate the Terms of Use are taken very seriously. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from YouTube.

Harrasement, threats, intimidation, etc. will also get you banned from Youtube just like Xbox Live. Are we sure that person(s) that got banned wasn't also hurling threats at people? The following is spoilered as it's offensive even with the censoring ***s.
"I want to ram my F***ing **** up my neighbor's *** until their ***** bleeds"
will likely get you account suspended in a hurry.

Again, similar but not the same. Your account can be suspended and banned if it contains speech that is questionable and gets reported.

Yet all of those exist on Youtube despite Google's willingness to ban people for that content. Why? It requires someone to report it. With hundreds of millions of video's on Youtube, people that are searching for that stuff aren't likely to complain and thus get the videos banned. And your average person is far more likely to come across music videos, TV shows, funny videos etc. Hence unlikely to run across something they are likely to report and get banned. And kids watching it can easily hide it from their parents by not watching it when the parents aren't around.

On the other hand. Xbox One/360 are front and center in the family living room. If a kid is using it and happens to come across a video with content that is bannable there's a fair chance their parents will see it or hear it. So while the kid wouldn't think to report it, I'm sure their parents will be very quick to report it. Again this would happen for more Youtube video's as well, but again, it's much easier to watch bannable YT video's without your parents potentially seeing or hearing it.

SB

Thats why you should divide your games amongst as many accounts as you can
I do that with steam, I have no intention of doing anything that would get me banned but things do happen and if they did i would only lose at most a couple of games not all of them.

Yep, was to be expected. Oh well, Twitch has been clear about their usage policy, and this fits in that.

I read the MS bannings only last 24 hours, hardly important, unless theyre arbitrary applying them of course
