Sony VR Headset/Project Morpheus/PlayStation VR

dragons crawn and Final Fantasy 8 (lots of final fantasy games) beautifully use "fake 3d"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vupKedrNWQ (see the scenes after boss fights, it do it multiple times)
the climax on minute 5:00. Where it combined Fake 3d perspective 2D video with 3D people.

but i dont know how to use fake 3d in 3D stereo output. I think its possible if the game put the 2d textures into a 3d world (flat polygon?). But fake 3d perspective that really just 2d wont work.

I'm just thinking that with the computer, perhaps you can change the floor painting's anamorphism (am I saying that right?) dynamically, what you couldn't do on a computer screen. And I don't really know of computer games that mix 'correct' perspective with false perspective. Of course, it would mess up lighting and shadows ...

Something like Diablo 2's perspective mode?

The Verge had a nice interview with Shuhei Yoshida about Morpheus and VR in general. I think Sony really have nailed the approach in that VR is a completely different medium and that simply porting games to VR won't necessarily result in a good experience.

Having said that I was finishing off my first play through of The Last of Us on PS4 on Sunday and that is a type of game that I would love to experience if they can nail smooth, fluid and reactive movement and targeting. The game is already nerve-wracking in places and that's with a detached third-person perspective, but imaging it in first person almost completely immersed where your field of view is in one direction (narrower) and clickers and runners are bearing down on you. AWESOME.

Good interview, but Verge failed utterly when they they forgot to list Snow Crash in that list of VR media [novels, TV shows, films].

oculus vr also think the game need to be specially developer for VR from ground up.

nice to see yoshida-san also casually give credits to oculus. its good, considering before PS4 (and X1) era its quite common between corporation to harrass each other.

This is true. I wonder who is going to fund such games on PC? That said, some games will translate well without overhauling the game - Elite Dangerous is apparently fantastic with Occulus.

yeah game where the player is "Stationary" inside "something" seems okay for VR. so those are

Racing
Flight
Giant Robot/Mechwarrior-ish

When summer comes,
Bring me everywhere

Thats the tagline the character said for SUMMER LESSON. So... confirmed this game (and Morpheus?) will be relased in 2015 summer???

I'm still secretly hoping that No Man's Sky will be on the Project Morpheus. I'd be at risk of becoming a hermit though.

It's not a full game, just an interactive tech demo like Sony's previous Morpheus software.

man.. then her tagline should be

"When summer comes,
You come to my demo booth," :p

yeah after i re watched harada-san talking, it is a demo.

Joystiq reports that Oculus CK1 will arrive next summer in a "limmited quantity public beta".
http://www.joystiq.com/2014/09/13/report-oculus-rift-consumer-version-due-by-summer-2015/

I think they are aware that there is not enough content out there for full blown wide release. :-/

That's not necessarily the reason for doing a public beta next summer though. They may well be going for a big holiday 2015 push.

I don't recall seeing this anywhere:

Samsung could certain put some speed into adoption.

I heard about it on a podcast, but this is not considered something on the short term as I understand it, but more something that will follow shortly after the above mentioned consumer edition of the original OR. They've just started with this and are well aware that the power is lacking. But they basically have set out with Samsung to make a serious investigation in the possibilities of reusing an existing phone's hardware like this for VR like applications.

200$ - 400$? Not bad at all!

I was expecting double that, though I admit I've not been following it closely.
