Sony Vita Games Thread

Ok, so after spending some decent time with Most Wanted, I can confirm that this is basically Burnout Paradise on a handheld, with a lot better gameplay features, like being able to instantly retry races, go to other races on the map (you can still drive of course), Autolog support, etc. That's the only point at which there are some load-times, and they're not long.

In a few ways the console versions are better of course (would have liked the mugshot feature personally, especially with the Vita having a built-in camera), but that's not really relevent to me - I'm just playing the Vita version for now, and it's one of the best handheld racing games out there, with so much to do. In some ways the Vita version is also better - less traffic is actually good, as there is still plenty and with the high speeds at which the races go, it gets pretty hard not crashing into anything as it is.

I've also seen complaints about the police chases, but don't believe those complaints. They're fun, they earn you points, and when you want to get rid of them (which so far is usually pretty easy anyway, once you've gotten used to the game a little bit) you can just drop into whatever race from the quick menu (that you can access while driving using the d-pad) and the chase is over.

Actually a lot of complaints are just downsides of new upsides. For instance, some people complain that the individual races are linked to cars. But the upside of that is that you generally have balanced races for that car (off-road, turns, fast, etc.), where you could otherwise blow through those races with an overpowered car. And as each car has dedicated races, these are all unique races and so AutoLog works great with them.

Text is a tad small at times though (which is a reverse complaint on consoles).

I'm really enjoying SmartAs at the moment! Probably one of best UIs I've seen in a long time, with beautifully designed menus blending in seamlessly with the in game graphics.

Anybody know if the menu transitions/fly throughs are rendered in engine?

They'd almost have to be, wouldn't day? I imagine it would actually be more work if they didn't do it like that. And they kept the graphics simple and effective enough, and it's otherwise full of typical Unreal Engine effects stuff.

Path Finder is kicking my brain on Easy by the way. Everything else I get three stars on Easy first or second attempt, but Path Finder, which I was good at at GamesCom (I think the limits for 3 stars were different), I've tried several times and can't get better than 2 stars. Crazy. I hope it's a bug in the game rather than my brain!

Good stuff though.

The reason I'm asking is that it looks very similar to the opening movie which appears to be pre-rendered.

Path Finder is pretty tough, even on Easy:)

I hate when the game doesn't recognise the letters/numbers you write, maybe it's just my handwriting!

There are two quirks in the handwriting recognition as far as I can see ...

-> T somehow is never recognised when written as uppercase, but write it as 't' and it'll detect it no problem.

-> 4 should be written 'open' at the top.

My memory is bad - I sucked at this when I first tried it at GamesCom as well, no stars in sight:

I bought Corpse Party (PSP game) and while it seems really nice it has to have one of the brain dead design decision I have ever seen. The interaction you have with the game is basically pressing a button to continue the text (and you have to do this after every text box). Now, which are the most comfortable buttons to push on the PSP and VITA? In my opinon, the L and R buttons. Which buttons do corpse party use? The goddamm X button. And there is no way to change that!

Raging tuna....

I like the x button better

Thanks for the tips, I'll stick with the lower case T. I also had problems with upper case G I will try lower case here also.

Any reason why the AF on the road/ground textures looks so bad on those NFS:MW screen shots?

Is AF really that taxing on the vita hardware?

CoD's getting ridiculously low scores. I think they should probably have chosen to make it cheaper ...

Playthroughs of Assassin's Creed: Liberation are already on youtube. Decided to watch a tiny little bit of one to see if I'd like it, and must say, that one of those sections that people complain about, actually looks kind of appealing to me:

I think I may go for it after all. But first perhaps I"ll play some more Brotherhood on PC.

Yeah, I really want to give Liberation a shot. Would like to pick up NFS:MW as well and I can't wait for Persona 4: Golden. My biggest problem with my Vita is affording all the games I want to play. Of course, after the PS Plus game dump next week I'll have more than I have time to play (or fit on my 16GB memory card).

If you gotta play AC Liberation, don't do it until Ubisoft as patched it. The current state the game is in is completely messed up. Releasing it alongside ACIII was obviously more important to Ubisoft than finishing, let alone polishing the game. For example, the vita control gimmicks aren't just pointless and mildly annoying like they were in Golden Abyss here. Instead they simply don't work most of the time.

Even without the mountain of bugs and shitty control gimmicks it wouldn't be more than a passable game, though. How this managed to score 7s or even 8s on some sites is completely puzzling.

While AC L kinda proves that the AC experience is possible on the Vita, it also proves that a full fledged AC game needs more than a shoestring budget.

Robably true, but doesn't ACIII have even more bugs? Playthrough at least shows it is theoretically possible to finish the game ;) But I may wait at least until after FW2.00 hits
