Sony Vita Games Thread

I can't get the cart version if it has online pass, can't use it as my PSN id is American and I like in UK....not an issue for PS3 where you can have it activated on a different id in the same console and still use it.

I'm sure you could buy the US version somewhere online with shipping combined still cheaper than getting it from a store in the UK?

Any impressions on AC3 yet? I'm feeling slightly interested in it actually....

Not from me, I may be getting it tonight, though I'm not in a huge hurry (guitar lessons, and I'm working on a little AI project in my spare time). But from neogaf (before it had a meltdown, either because of Sandy or because of the imminent Wii U release or a combination) I had a handful of positive impressions, and a little movie of the first 10 minutes or so looked pretty good.

same content it seems, just technical differences of course. But still quite an achievement.

major differences are of course less detailed graphics, less traffric, and only 4 players in multi.
BTW it looks quite a bit better than the ios/android version(which is not openworld)

Is it the same game as consoles ?

Yeah, same game. Actually it has extra missions apparently, but less traffic and fewer cars in races. You can earn game progress points this game and console versions, but there is no full gamesave integration.

I'll get it tomorrow I think, probably together with Liberation. I think I may like these games as handheld games more than on console.

i bought need for spped. Says there's an update but can't manage to download it because i need a f**** origin account and don't know how to create it via the vita

I already had my psn hooked to origin a long time ago so I don't know. I actually ended up getting Smart As, which seems quite good ... still quite a bit improved from last time I saw it. Smart As xdefinitely seems a case study in online leaderboards and near stuff, quite extensive stuff there. There's a platinum trophy in there, and looks like you'll need at least 100 days to get it ...

my nfs first impressions:

graphics are nice, of course not ps360 quality but still very good for a handheld machine.
My main complaint is about the framerate which is not smooth, it's a bit disturbing at high speed
some pop up here and there, but the map is massive, sometimes you can see far far away in the distance.
There is a highway running around the whole map, took me around 7 minutes to do a complete "lap".
free roaming in this game makes me want a GTA on the vita

Framerate doesn't seem smooth on any version ... but in the main I'm hearing good things as well about the Vita version. Same with Liberation - it has all the good and bad things about Assassin's Creed games. Apart from that, the storytelling isn't very strong, and to get the full story you really have to search out all the bits of hidden story yourself.

Should only seem fitting that the Vita gets GTA in some form, as the PSP got three GTA versions before it (and they were very successful, saleswise).

Some impressions on Smart As:

I did know that something like Smart As definitely needs to be on my memory stick (and seeing a Platinum basically needs me to do the game for at least once per day for 100 days ... not that I'm a Platinum hunter, just have one even though I'm level 12, but it's clear where this is going ... and then you need to play the game in a few different locations as well, from the looks of things)

Smart As probably has the biggest amount of leaderboard stuff I've seen so far (though I haven't tried ModNation), and the presentation has managed to get even more polished than it already was at GamesCom 2012 (where it was quite a different game from what I saw there in 2011 already).

I'm pretty happy with it so far, anyway! And no issues whatsoever, except that when I'm writing letters, it seems to demand I write a lower case t rather than a T, which it just can't read for some reason. Everything else seems fine though.

Someone made a screenshot comparison of Street fighter vs Tekken. on Vita and Iphone 4s

Ouch.

I thought Ino said the vita version is basically the handled version but scaled down even graphically. I guess at this points Capcom pretty much gave up on Vita entirely or the game itself since it bombed on consoles too. And the feed back was god awful. They are going to try very hard for any of their future fighting games title from now on, poor darkstalkers...

Vita version looks miles better, but then it's probably 5x as expensive. In terms of character models, even SFIV on the 3ds handily beats the iphone version here as well.

As for Ass Creed on the Vita: stick with it, folks. In somewhat typical AC fashion it starts off exceptionally slow and also kinda poorly (whereas ACIII is merely just slow)
Missions do get a lot better, but I'm still not quite convinced the persona feature was a good idea, especially since it rarely gives you a choice. The lady costume simply comes with a couple too many downsides while the choice between assassin and slave outfits hardly matters thanks to the game non-existent level of difficulty.
I think the worst part about the game is the audio mix. Trying to fit multiple language tracks into a 3GB cartridge was a terrible idea. Effects and voices sound like turn of the century 64 kbit MP3s. Even using the system speakers, the compression is clearly audible.
It's also the first Vita game where the sub native resolution bugs me a little. Gravity Rush and Uncharted simply don't have as many thin structures that flicker in and out of existence, and LBP and Street Fighter X Tekken make up for it with quality AA.

I'm still enjoying it very much regardless. Playing something as complex as AC on a handheld is kinda rad.

SF X Tekken on the Vita beats the phone version in every single aspect besides resolution. Lighting is significantly better, textures are crisper, shading is a lot more complex, polygon count is way higher (just look at the straps around Nina's leg and arm, or Ryu's musculature, or the hands and feet. There's tons more detail in the Vita version.
It's actually a great looking Vita game. Definitely doesn't look like Capcom didn't take it seriously.

ya, ppl with iOS version told me the background animations and detail are almost entirely gone. It doesn't runs smooth either for ipad2 or 3. The price for it is exactly what you can expect out of it. Only bad thing about the Vita version IMO is the lack of the cartoon filter.

The cartoon filter isn't in the IOS version either for that matter. Everything is just painted on. No signs of normal mapping too. It looks entirely flat. Gotta love Ryo's singular toe as well.

Vita version seems like they deliberately went for a different look to make for less easy comparisons. The harsh contrast oily skin look of the original was replaced with a much lighter look for the Vita. The character outlines are now bright white or yellow instead of black and brown. As for the backgrounds: Some were toned down quite a lot for the Vita as well (the urban warfare scene is nearly static on the Vita), but others were actually changed. In the Jurassic Era Research Facility on the Vita, Tekken's Alex is actually fighting the two T Rexes instead of merely standing by, and the Final Fight stage is now showing the aftermath of Haggar's brawl now. These aren't the kind of changes you'd make if you simply wanted to create a quick and dirty port.
Capcom did care.

Oh, and let's not forget that the ios version is missing how many characters? 30?

I went out to see if I'd pick up Most Wanted and Liberation, half expecting to end up returning with both, but I turned out to come back with neither ... They finally have 32GB cards and I thought, what with near and multiplayer stuff, I'd hate to have to switch carts at any point, and have long thought that with 32GB, I should have enough for a while for at least the games. And every bigger sized memory card is also a bit faster, I hear, so going all-digital will mean that in two years time, games will run with no load-times whatsoever. ;)

So now I've begun the horrible process of backing up my current full 16GB cart to my PC. Then I'll copy back what I need in ... smaller doses. ;) And then I'll get NFS Most Wanted digitally.

It's not great that game saves are combined with the game for Vita games for now (not for other types of games), and I hope that will change someday, because otherwise I'd just have copied the game saves over, and then download the games as I need them when I need them (that is usually fast enough, straight from the store to Vita).

I'll have to think about a strategic use of my 16GB cart after this. Either I'll use it for a specific group of games that I don't need immediate access to, or (more likely) I'll put some video content on those, that I can use when I need some for me, my wife or my son when we're on the road. This happens much less frequently and so swapping a cart for that would be less of a hassle (not that it's that much work, but the cart is just so tiny, I'd probably lose it ...)

Oh, and the Vita in-store section looks very healthy. Clearly getting ready for the holiday period. Prices of Vita units also start at 199 euro now, with 4GB and MotorStorm RC bundles at 229,-, and big retail game cart + 4GB cart plus WiFi model for 249,-, and it's got a healthy bit of shelf-space for quite a high level of quality of games now too (and tonnes of accessories of course). I expect it may do decently this holiday, and could be in very healthy shape by next holiday ...

Still enjoying NFS, Kamarazov? Hope to be joining you tomorrow at the latest (digital version shoudl e out by then, and my copying done as well ;) ).

Ouch.

Pretty much, ignoring the resolution difference the iphone version is orders of magnitude more simplistic. Rough guess I'd say you are looking at 5-10x lower poly count on the characters and similar difference in shader complexity. That's not to say it's a good looking game on vita or makes for a good comparison.
