Sony Vita Games Thread

I've been having so much trouble picking up a used Vita locally. There are like a dozen listed on craigslist but I can't get people to respond to emails or texts. The couple who did wanted unrealistic sums for their used systems (no one cares if your Vita is only 2 weeks old!). Was hoping to have one for a trip out of town this weekend, but I ended up buying one on eBay today. After missing out on a couple auctions over the last couple days, and having a couple reasonable Best Offers rejected, it turned out the best strategy was to look at the newly listed systems and grab the first one with a reasonable "Buy Now" price. I'm getting a Wifi model with a 16GB memory card for $200 USD. Can't wait for it to show up!

does anyone know if you can swap accounts & use the same DLC on one vita?

I ask as I'm sure I got HD Fury on my US account but I bought Wipeout HD on my UK account

Congrats! You won't regret it, I'm pretty sure. Good price too ...

I got the WipeOut dlc too, as I already owned them on PS3 so they were free ... I agree they don't look nearly as polished, but it is still good stuff.

I also noticed a first Plus discount on PS Vita by the way (albeit a really small one), for ModNation racers. I think it's a trial / test, and when it doesn't show up any bugs, they'll expand it. But great to see that programme on Vita now.

Yes there were a couple, I also noticed Little Deviants and Unit 13 (which was doen to £17.99 - so I assume if you have a £5 code too that's Unit 13 now only £12.99 for PS+

I think I'll pick up Modnation for the kids and the odd blast, I get my PSN credit cheap so I'm glad I waited, £5/6 for Modnation = bargain!

Lbp beta is fun :D !
Not only is it then but i was quite surprised by how much they've packed into it. You can tell that the extra memory on the Vita has had a positive affect!

I've also just started playing gravity daze. Please Mr developers can we have more games like this;)

Bought the MGS not-quite-HD not-quite-Collection yesterday. Both games have aged really gracefully and look great on the Vita. Can't knife-slash throats for the life of me in MGS3 though. Has to be me the most specific rear touch gesture ever conceived.

Yeah, I spent a tiny little more time with it yesterday as well. It's pretty cool - being able to draw everything with touch (makes making letters and such much more trivial!), pinch zoom and move on the back while selecting and moving objects on the front works pretty well actually. You can still do everything with analog sticks and such, and for really small objects that's still nicer, so it's great that you have all these options now. I'm thinking if I could make a hangman type game or word training app or something.

Also, some of the games are already quite far removed from anything to do with Sackboy. Pretty interesting one where you control a bigger swimming sprite with an analog stick, and a small fish that acts like a shephard dog on the rear. This level doesn't look very pretty, but the gameplay is quite original.

It's all extremely powerful.

How are the controls? I always thought they were infuriatingly floaty, and while LBP generally maintained a rather responsive feel regardless, LBP2 often felt like moving through a tar pit. The PSP game was a lot more responsive than both LBPs on the PS3. Would be nice if they brought back that kind of feel.

Are there any worth buying titles among the psp titles that are on sale in the PSVITA Sale ? I saw Split second, prince of persia revelations, graw2, graw predator there. Are any of these good ?

I think it is pretty close to LBP2 (which personally I never had a problem with), though these days level designers are much better with making sure that the type of platforming you do agrees with the physics driven nature of sackboy's movement (so generally, no jumping from moving stuff ;)). Levels I've played make pretty fun use of combinations of touch and regular controls, or, quite often for smaller experiments, just touch, and while not everything feels as smooth as a native iphone touch game, the breadth of what's on offer already is quite astounding.

I have no experience with Split Second on PSP though I hear it was pretty decent. I actually owned Prince of Persia on UMD, and back then I thought it was very impressive, played it more than the PS2 version, and the only real downside were the load-times, which are likely not an issue with the digital version on Vita. If I remember correctly all of them were ported to PSP.

I don't know how well it has held up over time though. GAF has a whole thread for the PSP game sales.

Not a game by the way, but really happy with how the Youtube app turned out. Looks and runs great, and I can now easily hand the Vita to my son instead of the iPad (or vice versa) depending on what I want to be able to use myself. ;)

Running them side by side also a good reminder of that while the Vita is stereo, the sound in the iPad has very good bass, and while the iPad has a great screen, at 50% brightness (which is the most useful default for iPad in terms of battery, eye fatigue etc.) the Vita stands out.

The 3ds speakers don't sound too shabby either (unfortunately the shielding on the headphone jack is inadequate to say the least). Still, considering how tiny the Vita speakers are I'm pretty happy with the sound. Definitely nowhere near as tinny as the PSP. The system is generally hooked up to my high-end Klipsch IEMs anyway, and then the audio is pure bliss.

offtopic, but this is really true. The iPad (2?) sound has good bass indeed. I lolled so hard at some android friends who were saying the ipad killer of that month, i believe the transformers asus, would blow the ipad out of the water, because it had stereo speakers..
So then we did some comparing at the ipad seemed like a audiophile system in comparison

what the vita does with it's speakers is amazing as well: I was able to hear the compression on the voices in Uncharted (but that could also be because of the Dutch dub having lower quality). In any way, Vita sounds amazing as well.

I have been playing mgs hd collection for some time now. MGS2 game mechanics feel pretty annoying by today's standards and the game has been causing me a lot of frustration. But when it' good it's really good just like the ps2 version. Overall as MGS fan I'm happy with the game but I can see how someone new to the series could think the game is utter rubbish :)

I wish they had updated some of the game mechanic to be more context aware like if enemy is approaching you and you pull a gun+first person view the view should be towards enemy not the damn wall(only sometimes though). The game requires you to plan ahead and execute instead of run&gunning(which fits the game but makes "playability" horrible for the COD crowd)

Graphics wise the game is ok. but there is frequent slowdowns during action which I don't remember being present on ps2 version. Slowdowns don't affect the actual game play too much, it' more of a cosmetic thing.

Haven't yet tried mgs3 so comment on that one later.

Overall, I would recommend this to patient people who are willing to plan ahead while playing instead of looking for run&gun type of a game. If you didn't like mgs earlier you will definitely not like it on vita and vice versa.
