Mmm… sold my psvr because it made me so sick I just couldn’t use it. How do I know if this will happen with the new one?
If you got sick before you'll most likely still get sick ... same as me.
I've heard of some people that have been able to "get used" to the queasy feeling, but I'm not willing to go through 100's of hours of feeling like I want to puke just to try to "get used" to the feeling so that I can VR games.
That said, room scale stuff (where movement is 1 to 1 mapped to your movement) and pinball games are generally fine. But for me, I wouldn't pay for a VR device just for that even though I do like Pinball and even built a pinball machine facade to use with my original Oculus
Why would they need to price it aggressively if it's required to use VR games on PS5? It's not as though you can plug in a competing headset, can you?
It depends on whether Sony think that PSVR2 will manage to be more successful than PSVR1. Currently the state of VR releases shows little to no confidence from the games industry at large that VR is taking off or will take off in the near future. Even with the relatively large success of Quest 2 relative to all other VR devices, VR games are still mostly short experiences with some very rare exceptions.
Even Sony's announced launch VR title for PSVR2 is just an offshoot experience from the main game from the looks of it. But perhaps they'll surprise me and it's an actual full length game. /shrug.
quest 2 costs 300 dollars with controllers, and 128gb memory.
I'm sure Sony can pull a 300 or less for PSVR2, especially if they want to sell a lot more than PSVR1
Quest 2 is also heavily subsidized from what I've heard and uses cheaper LCD panels to try make the headset cheaper. It's part of why they forced users to use a Facebook account (more revenue from datamining user's social platforms).
I'll be interesting to see if Sony will heavily subsidize PSVR2
btw funny that valve index was 1000$ with 1440 x 1600 sdr lcd without eye tracking, technology in terms of vr is changing fast
The 1000 USD price also includes base stations which offer far superior headset tracking, tracking stability, and more importantly controller tracking (body doesn't occasionally occlude the controller) compared to inside-out headsets. It sounds like Sony are putting in gyros in the controllers to attempt to mitigate the times when the controller is occluded from the headset mounted cameras. It won't be as good as Valve Index tracking but it should be quite a bit better than typical headset mounted camera tracking of controllers.
Unlike the Quest 2 and other cheaper PC VR headsets it also uses a high resolution OLED panels. Other PC VR headsets either used cheaper lower resolution OLED panels or cheaper higher resolution LCD panels. So, it's nice that PSVR2 will come with high resolution OLED panels.
