Shane Kim 1up interview

TC's SC: Conviction is coming as well in 2007. is this completely exclusive 360 + Vista game, or will it come to ps3???

also he said...
I think Halo 3 is going to be the biggest consumer event of 2007
Personally I sort of think Mario Galaxy has a goofd chance to be bigger still.

Not dissing Halo but let's face it. Not everybody loves first person shooting games. Particuary on consoles.

A jumping flying plumber on the other hand,.. I don't have any scientific facts to back it up but I think there just might be a larger overall appeal..and considering this is a Nintendo flagship title. And the level of polish is sure to be very high.

Not to mention the platform itself is cheaper and has a chance to be roughly as widespread as the 360 by the time the games are released. Well uh that's a complete guess on my part! I have no idea really haha!

Peace.

Uh, Halo 3 is be big. Halo 2 big, I dunno, but the franchise has a lot of power.

Halo 2 sold through 2.4 million units in its first 24 hours of North American release, Microsoft announced today. That adds up to $125 million in gross receipts, giving Bungie's latest Xbox project a place in the record books for both games and the entertainment industry at large.

To pull a couple of examples from the movie business, the all-time record for a movie's opening weekend belongs to Spider-Man 2, which grossed almost $115 million. Pixar's The Incredibles, launched this past weekend, drew a $70 million gross in its first three days. Shrek 2 owns the record for the highest single-day gross, drawing $44 million on May 22, 2004.

Personally I sort of think Mario Galaxy has a goofd chance to be bigger still.

Halo will be huge and likely the biggest gaming event of the year, but Mario Galaxy might make a bigger splash than past Mario Games. I don't recall Sunshine (which would have been fantastic for the Wii) being all that big which is mostly due to the cube being a slow sell. With the Wii's current success I wouldn't dismiss Mario Galaxy's release as a huge event but I doubt it will reach Halo proportions.

Great interview by Shane.

I really like this guy, he's extremely straightforward and down to earth, and has a great way of getting to the point when he speaks, without stupid hyporbole (peter moore!)

The best move MS ever made was getting J Allard the hell outta there and putting Shane Kim in charge.

I know it's mere pedancy, but isn't PGR technically a 2nd party title? Or has the relationship with Bizarre Creations changed?

Anyway, good interview - cheers for the link.

Why did they get Allard out of the way?/What is he doing now? I've been wondering what the hell happened there for a while now.

Bioware...going rare-style lol. I'd like Bioware to get bought out (so they could focus on one platform) but they already seem to know that if they want to make a western RPG they have to release it on 360.

It sounded kind of odd how the Dir. of Marketing said game developers make the 360 version of their games the lead version because of XNA, I couldn't tell if he was estimating or if they surveyed.

I liked the interview, pretty cool guy Shane is. He seemed connected and knew what he was talking about and not overhyping games to come.

They didn't "pass on" Ninja Theory. If you read the edge Ninja Theory interview. They asked Ninja Theory to move the whole freaking team to the US. NT bulked at it and went to Sony. I think Sony has better relationship with their 2nd parties than MS.

It seems Sony allowed them much more freedom to execute their original vision, while MS wanted them to change it. I haven't read Tameem's write up i n a while though, so maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

I think it depends entirely on which 2nd party you're talking about. I'm not trying to bash Ninja Theory here, but the record track of NT developers with MS was not so wonderful. At the time, it probably made more sense to go with what they did than what they did not. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm pretty darn amazed that NT has gone from Kung Fu Chaos to Heavenly Sword. I'm one of the few who actually liked KFC, and I can see the tremendous leap in game quality.
