Today, in an interview with our very own RPG Vault, a FASA Studio employee has (accidentally?) confirmed that Shadowrun is development for the Xbox 360. Theron Berson, an animator at FASA Studios, revealed that he’s working on Shadowrun and he also revealed a fascinating detail; the game will be a first-person shooter:
I have worked on many projects, ranging from PC games to console, FPS to role-playing. Right now, I am animating for an Xbox 2 project called Shadowrun. It's a first-person shooter based on an old paper RPG of the same name from a couple decades ago.
For those who don’t know about this franchise, Shadowrun is a fictional universe that was introduced as a pen-and-paper role playing game by FASA Corporation in 1989. You can think of the Shadowrun universe as a Tolkien-meets-William Gibson world in which elves, dwarfs, orcs, trolls, and vampires melt with modern weapons and Matrix-like technology for a man meets magic and machine experience.
Last year, we discovered that Microsoft filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the Shadowrun mark and FASA Studios’ Jon Kimmich, a former Microsoft Game Studios employee, was kind enough to explain to us who owns the Shadowrun property.
Shadownrun is a big universe that could host a variety of different game types but we’d be happy enough with a standard role-playing game that continues with the SNES and Sega Genesis legacy; however we believe that only a MMORPG could do the franchise justice in this third millennium we live
