Rumor: Xbox 360 Japanese launch may slip to Q1 2006

as I posted in that Gaming-Age Forums thread:

although MS will probably receive some negative PR if they do end up launching in Japan in Q1 2006, since they have been touting their 'worldwide launch'...

if MS does end up releasing Xbox 360 in Q1 in Japan, it could end up being a good move, IMO .....

Xbox 360 IMO, needs to have a good launch in Japan, which means they probably need to have more than a couple of Japanese developed games ready for the Japanese launch (probably including at least 1 JRPG) .......... delaying the system is much more preferable, IMO, than launching with poor Japanese support yet again @ launch

IMO, MS needs to show Japan that they have content which appeals to Japanese gamers, ready from the get go, @ the Japanese launch...

If it means a tighter Japanese launch, so be it. The content needs to be there or there's no use.

Its going to hurt launching next to PS3, but its not game over yet. I don't think MS themsleves honestly believe that they can beat Sony in Japan. But they can be more competitive than current gen, and if they want to manage that they need the content. Not months after launch, bur right there on launch to show that they're more serious about that market than last time.

Yep a good launch is needed for X360 in Japan. Who cares if it gets pushed back a few months. What is Q1 in Japan anyway?

IMHO, Microsoft's been seriously rushing the X360. They have time, they should use it instead of acting all desperate about getting a head-start on Sony.

Meh, they seem to be cutting it close on the Western launch, but its how they handled the Xbox1 and that turned out fine.

Well from what i understand they were goign to space the launches out by a couple of weeks .

So if u figure na in november , europe in dec and japan in jan . THat wouldn't be so bad at all . If its much later like march or june then there could be some problems

Nobody answered me. What is Q1 2006 for Japan? Is it fiscal year or what?

Edited: Okay I just seen that it might get pushed back to March 2006.

Microsoft's FY2006 starts in August, but the article specifically says March so I'm sure they mean Calander year.

That being said, I don't believe the rumor at all.

I'm not quite sure I believer this -- Microsoft seems pretty set on releasing everywhere, at the expensive of quantity in each location even. I think it would end up doing more harm for their name than any good at this point (by releasing at different times after saying a worldwide launch).

I don't believe march . I would believe jan as i explained above .

Anyway tgs and xo5 are on the way . So we will know more .

Personaly i think ms should push as many units to na and europe as possible and launch with a small amount of units in japan .

IU don't see them needed anywhere near as many units there as in na

Heh, I was just telling someone yesterday that I don't think the X360 will be launching in Japan this year. They really need to have some locally appealing games on the shelves with the X360 if they want to sell ANY units, because the hardware offers up nothing new. Whereas the PS3 could launch in Japan with no games and still sell because of its features. And therein lies the problem. The only advantages the X360 could hold over the PS3 in Japan is a head start and a lower price. But it, being a foreign-made item, is likely to come at a premium price (probably equal to the PS3), so it may be left with no advantages if it launches within weeks of the PS3. The situation is very different in other territories, but we all know how important it is to have a presence in Japan.

There aren't a lot of Christians in Asia (Compared to other religions) so Christmas isn't widely celebrated. They don't have a holiday shopping season like in Europe or North America.

So missing Q4 2005, and launching in Q1 2006 wouldn't really hurt MS, after all, Sony launches their stuff in Japan in the spring, rather than Q4 of the year.

I don't know about generic Asia, but if you look up the sales chart in Japan, you see a surge in the holiday season sales a bit later than that of the US (Nov-) in Japan (Dec-) too.

It might even be better to launch in Q1 so the 360 wont be so quickly forgotten once PS3 comes out.

The launch games are crucial too they need to have something to compete with.

What games will Sony have at launch?

Most likely Minna no Golf and Tekken which will both be huge.

i think they are fine launching this year . Lets face it they wont need alot of units and those who are going to buy the system in japan are going to do it anyway regardless of how many japanese games there are . Many will do it for the graphics and playing the live games on it and the few games that apeal to them .

The ps2 did fine dispite launching with few quality titles in japan (if any at all )
