Scrap can literally mean to "fight" or "scuffle". So what DaveB and others seem to be implying is that the NV40 vs R420 will be involved in a struggle or fight against each other, no matter which way you look at it.

Anyway.... back on the "scrap" comment. If Dave is referring to X800 Pro vs. 6800 Ultra then nV really have a fight in their hands. You'd imagine that the performance delta between X800 Pro & X800 XT will be far greater than that concerning the the 6800 Ultra and an as-yet-not-announced NV40 @ 475/600MHz (if that is indeed a good indicator of what we can expect??).

Edit - either that or he's referring to the entire product ranges based on those ASICs. So the X800 Pro might be a bit slower than the 6800 Ultra, but the X800 XT might be a bit faster than the 6850/whatever.

Since the R420xt board is yet to be sent to reviewers, I think Dave was talking about the X800 Pro and the 6800U.

And the X800 Pro will probably also has 16 pipes enabled.

So then the XT will essentially be a speed bumped version of the Pro, again? :D

One way or another, I see a price war being waged here, in addition to a performance vs features war. Bombs away!
