You don't suppose the fact that the two GPUs will use entirely different architectures will influence the comparison between the two, do you? :|

Look at his user name digi, what do you think  :D

i only compare their clock speed when both x800xt and 6800U are 16piplines, 256bit so niether of them hav advantages at those 2 areas. the case of nv30 vs r300 is different however. nv30 has to use more core speed to compensate it's low 128bit and 4*2 pipline.

Dig,

you can try to educate.

You can rise to the bait.

You can bang your head a against a brick wall.

You can bet that DC will not attack ultragpu for being an uniformed nVidiot.

The choice is yours..

IMO. NV40 vs R420 = "scrap".

Can you be a little clearer as I'm wearing my idiot hat today? :D

The attempt for comparisons are scrap because both products are not out to really compare thus=scrap? Or actual product to product equates to one product being scrap?

Please :D

A "scrap" = an ugly fight with no clear winner. As in...

Oioi geez! Crew wen daan saaf on da wee'end an got inna prop'a nasty scrap wiv dem Romford boyz, innit.

Sure am.

That's me on the left.

The one holding the glowstick weird in his right hand? Really?

EDITED BITS: No fair, you changed left to right! The one in the green shirt is you?

EDITED BITS2: Now it's left again, are you glowstick or green shirt? :|

comparison

yeah i realize they hav different architecture but, those are just based on my own predictions.

then again, no matter how different r420 architecture is to nv40's, it still wont support SM.3...now would it...

Ah, your 'predictions'...just out of curiousity what type of history/background do you have at predicting GPU performance? :|

Actually, it's already reported to have SM 3.0 support now...isn't it?

oh my..hav i missed somfin? does everyone has to be a graphics chip developer to make their own predications about the gpu performance? :p

and please give me the links to the claims regarding that r420 fully supports SM3.0
and you can save it if they are just rumours or decieving posts like that "benchmark".

Feel free to peruse the threads at this site to read all about it. :)

Think so - either that or something similar, can't remember. Hilarious.

Anyway.... back on the "scrap" comment. If Dave is referring to X800 Pro vs. 6800 Ultra then nV really have a fight in their hands. You'd imagine that the performance delta between X800 Pro & X800 XT will be far greater than that concerning the the 6800 Ultra and an as-yet-not-announced NV40 @ 475/600MHz (if that is indeed a good indicator of what we can expect??).

Edit - either that or he's referring to the entire product ranges based on those ASICs. So the X800 Pro might be a bit slower than the 6800 Ultra, but the X800 XT might be a bit faster than the 6850/whatever.

MuFu.

Depends whether or not you believe the rumour that the Pro has now actually got all 16 pipes functioning, no? Would better explain the (apparent) marginal victory for the Pro.
