PS5 DualShock Revealed (DualSense)

Looks a lot like the Xbox controller now. As PS5 controller trending on twitter under "xbox controller" confused me lol.

But they didn't fix my biggest gripe, the non-offset sticks. But maybe the other ergonomic changes make the sticks feel better/more Xbox like?

BUT I think the best thing about it is the mic. I'd predict Xbox will be forced to copy that in short order. I've become a decent fan of alexa (while it also infuriates me). So you could use it like that, but more generally, why couldn't you use it instead of a headset? Although this might not be ideal for voice pickup (I assume they could work in some sort of Alexa-like far field voice recognition?), it would be an absolute GAMECHANGER in terms of comfort and ease of use while playing. GAMECHANGER. It's so damn annoying dragging the mic out and plugging it in for a group in Destiny.

That integrated mic is HUGE.

Things thing has exploded on twitter and Instagram. Even non gamers are RT the photo. Reminds me of the Tesla truck reveal lol. 2 million likes on insta.

Playstaton? Are we SURE it's not from playstaton?

I like the pattern on the textured rims of the sticks, hopefully it's a good balance between grip and damaging the skin after long hours.

So this almost confirms PSVR2 tracking won't be LED, but how will PSVR1 work for BC if we can't use the old camera?

The DS4 will work with the PS5.

Damn it, it still has the trigger/back of controller design that pinches my fingers. :???:
The design also requires you to rest the controller on the triggers themselves when putting it down which is also pretty annoying.
OCD much? :p

Looks nice, no big LED it seems. I like the exotic-ish design.

Both DS2/og xbox controller had it, not too many games used it. Think GT3/GT4 did, and maybe ridge racer v, as far i can remember.
The original XBOX controller didnt have it if I recall

I like the overall, more futuristic approach but the white/black needs to be broken up more. It's white elements on a big white chunk and black elements on a big black chunk. Even the PS button is barely visible.

It appears indistinct and lacks that iconic look when contrasting colours are not broken up properly.

Not everything has to be in contrast and a more monolithic approach can work, but with the touchpad appearing even more dominant it could really do with something to break it all up. It wouldn't even have to be a tactile texture, just some visual filler.

I just think it's annoying when putting down the controller for a moment while playing to check my phone or whatever and the triggers get pulled. :p

But, yes, the pinching of the fingers and the resulting overall feel of not being able to effortlessly hold the controller as comfortably as i would like is the big problem but they both stem from the same design choices on the back of the controller and triggers.

Hmm, controller looks good, hope it also feels good. "DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions" and adaptive triggers. Time to run that Clinton game again?

So I suppose it have IR LED hidden behind plastics?

So it will be able to be tracked by psvr2 or pscamera2.

Hmmm, or maybe pscamera already can see IR LED? so PS5 controllers will be compatible with Psvr1 games and camera.

Or Psvr1 on PS5 will requires ps camera 2?

Ps4 have different design with the controllers. Ps4 console got hard edges and angled as heck, ps4 gamepad full of curves.

If PS5 follows that design language, PS5 maybe a V with hard edges, and LED flourish?

Interesting design. I think them getting away the from the legacy design of the Dualshock is a good thing. Also built-in mic is cool imo. I think more people might communicate in online multiplayer if the mic is always there in front of them instead of having to wear a headset.

Does many xbox one players use voice chat? It used to be sold with a pretty good mic (kinect).

I hate offset sticks. Symmetry is art and should not be hampered with. (starts war)

It depends on the game and mode. The more stringent and competitive the game mode the more likely for voice chat. The kinect has good mics, but in practice that makes it bad for voice chat because it picks up so much from across the room ... often times people dont realize that their away from game conversations are being heard by everyone in the game. Many times they didn't even realize Kinect was being use for chat. It did a good job of game audio cancellation, so no issues with game audio being echoed back, unlike the cheaper chat headphones and mic.

Everyone I game with prefers dedicated headsets with inline mics.

With all that said, for everyone who ever plays online and not in private parties, I hope Sony doesnt default the controller mics as active and as the default chat device. Yes, that's maybe not consumer friendly and counterintuitive but it's the best settings for everyone involved. No one needs to hear the children being yelled at by their parents or arguments between couples.

wonder how it's going to work with PSVR 1 as it's supposed to be compatible with PS5, PS camera may not be able to track the DualSense, we may have to use the DS4 instead until the release of PSVR 2
The blue under the touch pad is the light bar used for tracking. psvr1 and cam would work as they do now.
