Money isn't tight, I just think that between PSVR and the Pro, I'm spending a liiiiiiiittle too much on gaming, which I wouldn't mind really if it actually made a lot of sense. But as it stands, without a 4K TV, it still doesn't make a huge amount of sense. We'll see, I have 9 days to be convinced.
Yea I hear you. After Scorpio and Pro I just about got up to run out to buy a 4K TV with HDR.
But it's a ton of hype/instant purchasing glorification. Most 4K sets suck for gaming at the moment, low refresh rates, terrible input lag. List goes on. Not to mention expensive af. I spent a lot of time talking with my group, and in the end, it makes sense to wait on the TV. 3 years time, you can expect almost a 50% price difference in a large screen TV, but the consoles may at most move $100 dollars during that period.

Meaning, if you are looking at a $3K TV, you can save 1500 if you wait 3 years and get a better set in the process (for gaming). Save yourself even more if you wait on that 4K ready console until you own 4K. Maybe $100 + bundle, depending on when you buy it. Waiting certainly has it's financial advantages.

If I am getting the Pro, it will be for PSVR and because I always get two of them eventually anyway. Normally I would get a slim as my second PS4 but the Pro is much more useful :)

I usually get a slim mid-cycle; instead, I will probably be buying a pro, but I'm going to wait until it drops a bit in price. The CDN sucks right now so PS4P is $500 here. Still a good value all things considered, but that's not exactly pocket change.

If you wait 3 years pro may be about to hang up its gloves if Sony keeps generations. (Worse case straw man)

Anyhow CES is just around the corner to try and refill your hype and make you part with a decent wad of money.

Hdr. .... Techie moths to a flame.

Yeah, PS5 could very well be released in 3 years.

Sony could drop the price of PS4P by as early as next year, before the release of Scorpio. And pretty good 4K HDR sets are already affordable (Samsung KS8000, or Sony X800D for example). As a videophile, they're just not quite up to my standards and aren't any better than my current Panasonic plasma overall. But they are great, affordable options if you need one now. Next year should provide even more affordable options.

good point... didn't consider this. But I think you stand to lose a lot more by running out and getting a 4K HDR TV today, which the market is still in this weird transition phase with standards and support, vs waiting 3 years, getting it much cheaper and with solidified standards. We can't be buying TVs every 3 years ;) Well we can be, lol but I woudln't know how to sell those TVs. I'm not sure what to do with my 65" plasma.

I am waiting to see next years models, I do not think I can wait too much longer, I wish it was only 3 years, I think mine is more like 7. The Samsung is nice but just not quite good enough for over 1K, I am hoping CES will show some new sets that fully realise the HDR promise and not cost the earth. If flagship sets mostly manage it today then next year I would hope midrange might also be acceptable and top tier deliver a more rounded performance. Dolby Vision more widely supported would be a bonus, but also I want to see more equipment that can pass a HDR signal through such as Sound bars etc.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for viable OLED 4K HDR sets to replace a 54" 1080p Panny Plasma.

To be honest, I have my finger ready on the Cancel Pre-order button until the final day. Right now I still see very little reason to actually go ahead. Especially after reading that FFXV will not actually support the Pro at least initially. That was a huge reason for me to get the bloody thing.
FFXV definitely supports Pro at launch. They've only said they want to add even more enhancements with additional time.

Noooo! Why would you do such a thing???

(Cheap arse me will be scouring ebay for unloved 50+ inch Panny Plasma's next year).
Got a 5 year old Samsung 59" plasma and still quite happy with the image. It did start to get a reddish hue in the picture, but a quick calibration with HCFR and X-Rite Colormunki made it look better than new. I think too it'll be wise to wait a few years for HDR 4K TV's to mature if not in hurry to buy a new set.
Speaking of PS4Pro, I just preordered it, thought what the hell, I'll just use my tax returns in advance. Mainly hoping it will show improvements in VR.
Also, I know I'd hate it if I knew future games would run with better framerate and/or effects with the Pro and I was still playing them with the old PS4 :/

I've played through UC4 maybe 3-4 times already and got the plat so i'm not really looking forward playing the game again. Will probably have a Pro by the time the SP dlc comes out which is what i'm looking forward to. I'd buy a Pro just to play the best version of Gravity Rush 2 but that got delayed so i don't really have a reason to own one so it's better to wait and see if there are any problems to sort out in the first batch :)

I also haven't played Bloodborne in a loooong time so if there's a patch close to the release of the Pro i'm game.
I clocked it twice now but have been literally holding off the 3rd play till the Pro :), man I never get tired of looking at those HDR fire and explosions in Gears 4 and I expect the same in UC4 too. BB at 4k and HDR would certainly be a looker and I sure hope it gets patched, yet another game I have to rebuy.

yikes, yea tough situation guys.
I think what may make the most sense, since I don't suspect 4Pro dropping in price all that fast, or all that much for that matter. Is get your 4Pro. But wait on the TV.
TVs can fundamentally drop in price rapidly, and you're going to get a way better screen for much less; 4K Ultra HD LED is cheap, but once that HDR is tacked on, it looks like double nearly triple the price, OLED is another beast entirely.
Best Buy Canada sells the LG 65" OLED HDR with DV is $6000 on sale (discount $2000).
Sadly even at that, it still doesn't review perfect.

Input Lag
1080p @ 60Hz Show Help : 34.2 ms
1080p With Interpolation Show Help : 127 ms
1080p @ 60Hz Outside Game Mode Show Help : 50.7 ms
1080p @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 Show Help : 34.2 ms
4k @ 60Hz Show Help : 34.4 ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 Show Help : 34.1 ms
4k @ 60Hz + HDR Show Help : 67.5 ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 + HDR Show Help : 67.5 ms

Update 06/17/2016: The input lag can take some time to stabilize, but adjusting the picture mode to 'Game' and changing the input icon to 'Game console' reduces the input lag to 34.2ms at 1080p. Ensure 'TruMotion' is disabled.

Update 08/09/2016: The 1080p input lag outside game mode was updated to 50.7ms and the input lag under HDR mode with a 1080p resolution was also verified, and it is also of 50.7ms.

Update 09/14/2016: The input lag with an HDR signal under a 4k @ 60Hz resolution is a bit higher than without an HDR signal, because when the TV detects a HDR signal, it switches to a special HDR picture mode. To have the best input lag, be sure to select the 'HDR Standard' picture mode.

Note that the less expensive LG B6 has a better input lag under HDR with a 4k resolutions than the E6.

Those 4K input lag times are horrific! Even if I wasn't a broke tight arse, I would not touch one of those.

Waiting another 12 months for TV manufacturers to get their shit in order seems like a good idea.
