PS3 UK price...

So ps3 is actually 480euro.

Basically yes. And the UK price, if we keep £425, that means that pre-tax, PS3 is actually around £350 (i think?). Which is a bit less than 700 dollars depending on the day. Not that this changes anything...

I think that in the US prices are shown without tax, whereas our prices always have tax included.

EDIT: Uhm... and yes, shifty, i totally posted this before i even saw your post...

Exactly - us prices never have tax included *whispers* and if you order online you don't have to pay tax here *shhh* :D

.... WHAT!?

See this is how unfair this world is. The richest country in the world, and you get things MUCH cheaper, and can even avoid paying taxes?!

well ... we all have to pay income tax :) and shipping on online products

*taxes must be paid on online items ordered in the same state

That actually depends on what items you are getting and where you are getting them from (I.E. Best Buy and Gamestop will charge you taxes on online orders...) It seems to be the new thing. They even have a section on some tax forms that ask you what you have purchased online and have not paid sales tax on. (All so they can tax you the appropriate state tax.)

What Chef said...

So ps3 is actually 480euro. or $620usd

Doesn't sound like you guys are getting ripped too bad :)

Thats not my personal problem with it, its the fact that they dont ever take into account the large tax on the item and try to price adjust to help out, Microsoft did this time around. Sony can infact do it if they wanted to, Japan for example is getting the 60gb PS3 for about 510US.

sorry for the OT - (and the tax gauging in EU:devilish: ) but it looks like you guys are getting a pretty good deal on ps3/xb360/wii.

Well, we're getting an OK deal. One thing is for sure, this obviously explains why it's not that we Europeans just "bend down and take it". It's just the way it is. Our prices might be higher than the rest of the world, but they also have tax of various percentages included. US prices don't.

One thing worth bearing in mind is the fluctuation in $ exchange rates. When the 360 was released the exchange rate was such that it was almost an equivalent £ value, however since then the $ has plummeted and now it appears that the UK is being ripped off - in reality the price has remained the same, but the value has dropped when compared to our US cousins.
Now, it may well work that the PS3 starts with a relatively poor value when compared to the US, but if the exchange rate should drop, it may well become better value (comparatively speaking).
Hmm, does that all make sense?

Actually, what the exchange rate has also done is given the ability for M$ to drop the price of 360 in the UK quite substantially without actually making a $ loss over the launch price!

Did you bought it at that price?

And lets not forget - before or after buying a PS3 (or a 360), most people will be complelled to buy a HDTV. There is a lot of money changing hands here...

No, I didn't. I had quitted gaming after Amiga 500 and the early PC years. I bought PS1 in 1998, mainly because I was intrigued by Resident Evil. Oh, I did bought the PS2 six years ago for 500 euros. And yes, HDTV is also on my shopping list.

Peripheral prices...

The motion-sensing SIXAXIS controller will retail for £34.99
the remote control for the machine's in-built Blu-ray player will cost £17.99
Also selling for £17.99 will be a choice of connection cables - HDMI, AV and component AV. The cheapest item on the announced list of peripherals is the S Video cable at £12.99.

It was the same when the PS2 was released, and it was the same when the PS1 was released. You had to pay extra for additional controller, better cables, and remote control. The only difference is, that you don't have to buy a memory card anymore.

There's a fair few tax dodges here too. Buy cheap items (DVDs, photo prints, etc.) from the Channel Islands and you save yourself VAT. Which is why Play.com is so popular!

Or buy it on a company account and deduct the VAT.

Most (all) companies wouldn't allow that if you're an employee. Mine certainly wouldn't. If it's your company, then fine, but even then i'm not sure if you have to explain your expenses to someone at the end of the financial year. If so, justifying a PS3 purchase for "business reasons" might be a bit tricky, depending on what company you own.

But - it's a computer!

Of course, it's difficult unless you're the owner. But it can be done.

Ok, so it is not UK price, sue me!!

Most likely it will be 6000sek, they will do the 1€=1sek convertion and even that is quite a bit more than the PS2 launch price. 6400sek sounds way too much and whay would it cost so much more than the rest of the europe with the 1€=1sek convertion it still costs more than the rest of Euroland...

According to IDG (http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.93348) the price in sweden will be arount 6600 SEK. That is around $940 (US) , 730 €, 480 £. Edit: This is including VAT. Ouch!! I think I'll have to sell one of my kidenys.

I'll visit Game here in Lund, where I have my preorder since E3 this year, tomorrow to see if they have set a price yet, and becouse the cute girl works there on saturdays :)

I think £425 is good value considering what you get.

Blu Ray movie player
Linux PC
and of course, high end gaming/cell

I really can't believe a price above 6600SEK in Sweden. I've checked with several sources in Norway and it seems around 5500NOK and maybe up to 6000NOK in the worst cases, will be the price for the 60GB version. For both countries I'd think a price between 670€ and 730€ maximum.

Top this anyone;-)?
