PS3 UK price...

That's been the price from the very beginning, I'm just not sure if that's for the 20GB or the 60GB version...

Wait, after everyone consistently ignores the 20GB version, and all the discussion about how retailers are expecting to only stock the 60GB for the first months, you honestly consider the possibility that 425 quid, which is the expected UK equivalent of 629 euro, is going to get you the 20GB version only? :D

My, if that were to be the case, I'm sure the Chunnel would be getting real busy this Spring. ;)

Do i expect that? Not sure, not expecting anything...
Would i be surprised if that should happen? Not one tiny bit! :devilish:

Oh yes, it will get busy either way...

Am I crazy, or is this news nearly a year old? ;)

In all fairness, the article does mention that the news of the price appeared last May, if you read the article in its entirety (or at all), they are trying to get to the point that the UK price was artificially inflated by UK retailers not by Sony...here is the sub headline:

Retailers accused of driving up price point

anonymous retail source said:
One retail source said that the higher UK price has not been driven by Sony but by British retailers, who traditionally seek bigger profit margins than their Continental counterparts.

Also, and way off-topic, every time I go to gi.biz I realize that, Free Radical, easily has the best "Now Hiring" ads.

The price was never confirmed. Neither was the possibilty of the cheaper 20GB version. Some of the latest noises were 'PS3 would be no more than £425.'

Personally I hope the UK sticks two fingers up at the 60 GB only model. Since the addition of HDMI, the 20GB would be a preferred model for many, so why are we denied the choice? A $500 PS3 ought to be £325 tops including tax and markup, and then it becomes a viable alternative to XB360 as a mostly games platform.

From what I ve heard on the internet and asked in a retail in Europe the 60GB will be available only

Wohoo!

The SCE spokesperson confirmed that the information is correct, but added, "This doesn't change the previously announced figures of EUR 499 and EUR 599 for the rest of Europe."

I can get the PS3 at the same price I paid for PS2 six years ago. :)

Not if you are to believe what is listed on http://www.ps3.eu/flash/index.html?locale=FI

Other countries I've looked at are:
Ireland €529.99 and €629.99, 20 GB Model will not be available for launch there.
Sweden, Denmark, UK, Germany, €499 and €599. Lack of the smaller model is not mentioned.

To navigate to the price, click "Ask a question" at the top, then click "price".

Perhaps it's time for the Brits to stop whining and start to feel sorry for the Finns instead. :)
edit: So the difference is only 5€ at the current rate, so its not that big.
According to most pricing rumors, the price in Sweden will be 6000 sek (~662€) but I've even seen rumours of 6400 SEK (~705€).

Most likely it will be 6000sek, they will do the 1€=1sek convertion and even that is quite a bit more than the PS2 launch price. 6400sek sounds way too much and whay would it cost so much more than the rest of the europe with the 1€=1sek convertion it still costs more than the rest of Euroland...

so only UK with his british pounds is gettin more expensif then the 499/599 EURO rule?

No the official price in Finland is 550e for the 20GB and 650e for the 60GB. I'm fairly certain that there will be some chains that sell it for the 499/599 price tag, atleast very soon after the launch.
