[PS3] LittleBigPlanet Impressions

Can't someone copy the stage to his pod and do a tear down ^_^ ?

I am still Bioshocking

I think he's standing inside a piece of float material that's attached to the grab trigger. That would allow him to use the jetpack, and always be able to grab something to allow the spaceship to shoot.

I really shouldn't be torturing myself like this, thinking of how a LBP level works, but not having the game to try them out.

Ahh, I was wondering why I hadn't seen you playing any LBP.

Yeah, I can't wait to start playing. It's going to be released this week in europe. I bought a new 250 GB harddisk especially for this game. That should take me a while to fill up.:D

I'm also still waiting for this game, especially since we postponed our holiday ... thank Evolution for Motorstorm 2 :)

I was thinking about working my way through the tutorials and start working on my levels again. But now I wonder if it might be better if I play the story first, and unlock some extra stuff for level creation. Is there anything worthwhile to unlock in the story that is of good use for level creating?

It's definitely worth it to go through the single player levels first. Tons of materials, objects, sickers, and sounds to gather (plus cool outfits!). You can't go wrong, as you'll build your arsenal of objects and materials to use through the creation mode and make your levels a bit more visually pleasing!

Edit: Sorry, all codes are gone!

Yes, a bunch. Materials for a start. You've got about 10% or less.

There are probably going to be many more (and better) of these, but it's a nice showcase. :) Lots of cool stuff out there on youtube, really look forward to picking up the game. Trying to get my colleagues interested in the game as well, so we can do some multiplayer and create some fun stuff together maybe even for a work event.

That said, I still have four Kratos codes for NA users, if you're interested, please PM me! Or if you know someone else on another forum, PM me and I'll give you the code to pass along.

I'll start by playing the story then.

I'm in europe with a european PS3, so I guess a NA code won't work for me, but thanks anyway.

I just called the store, they just received their copies, and I can pick up mine tomorrow.:D

I want to tell you about this very interesting company called Sony... but you better sit down and read it yourself: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/11/04/currently-no-plans-for-littlebigplanet-image-importing/

That image importing feature that was supposed to be coming in the next LittleBigPlanet patch? It's probably not going to happen, after all. The Community Manager has made a comment on the official European PlayStation forums to say that while "image importing is very much technically viable ... there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons.

"Announcements of future content releases, whether free, paid for, feature update, costume, sticker or whatever will always come through the official websites for LittleBigPlanet and Media Molecule, if you hear of updates through any other source please take it with a pinch of salt until it has been confirmed or denied." So while it's not ruled out for good, don't expect to see it coming any time soon. Better plug that PlayStation Eye back in -- it's your only method of custom image importing for the foreseeable future.

It's probably a battle between the techies, the business people and legal.

So what are they afraid, that people will take copywritten images and map them in LBP levels and characters?

I think it's legal, as well as the fact that they will see decreased revenue from sticker packs over the internet if users are able to generate and distribute their own sticker packs. It would make DLC pretty much pointless for this game, IMO.

Got the game! Woohoo. First do some chores, then reward with some LBP. Probably I'll go through the create tutorials first so that I unlock most of that stuff for when I have inspiration, and then go through the story mode. Would be great if I could tempt the missus for some coop, but I don't fancy my chances too high ... fortunately though this game has online coop. ;)

MM can add stuff that other people can't, like different materials, different clothing options for sackboy, new decorations, maybe even new tools and components (and allow people to play with the new stuff, but not build with it). They don't have to be stingy with stickers to wring people out with DLC.

Right, but unfortunately, I think certain contract agreements with Sony and MM say otherwise, which is probably why we won't see the patch. Sony needs money, and if they can prevent MM from giving away an infinite amount of freecontent, while creating a way to generate more revenue for themselves...I think they'd do that in a heartbeat.

Legal makes no sense in light of YouTube. Fair use of images as tiny bits of content seems legitimate to me. If they're worried about wholesale rips of other people's work, that'd just be reportable, covered in the TnC, and no more a worry than any other violation.

The problem with DLC is perhaps the issue here. How many people would buy Disney stickers if they can load in their own? But, then how many people will actualy buy a sticker pack way? DLC in terms of 3D models, music, backgrounds, and other content is still a unique market, and I doubt they'd get much sale from stickers. Plus they have their tooted online sticker creation tool coming.

It would be a crying shame for Sony to support this game so well from the beginning, and then gimp it so much. I hope this is just a cautious 'let's not make any early promises' statement, rather thana wholesale 'we're gonna be really dumb about this game from now on' statement.
