PS3 launch in Japan

already selling at crazy prices, gez.
Well it had at least the ceiling set, so not a bad deal actually... Preorder tickets were on the auction for a while but it was against the rule, so now it's the time real units show up.

Well, the real launch is 18 hours later, but some lucky guys (or just a shop owner/clerk) have already got their PS3 ;)

It was on Yahoo Auction and its instant buy price was 120,000 yen ($1,021).

:(

$1000 ain't bad at all relative to import store prices, it's about the same.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to order through Play-Asia anymore..they're kicking up a fuss about shipping to an address different than my credit card billing address, and haven't yet indicated if I can use a different payment method to do that or not. So my order there is still pending..if something showed up for a reasonably price on ebay, I'd be tempted.

whoa, it looks pretty hectic in some spots.
I've heard some reports of mafia being on locations.
Crazy stuff. O_O

The line at an Osaka store, from tetsuoxb at GAF:

He reckons there was about 500 people there when he left, longer than the DS Lite lines at the time, and that was before 9pm on Friday.

It's just past midnight in Japan now.

edit - Actually, apparently they all got their systems already! That store started selling them Friday evening. It had about 1,000 units (as to most of the larger stores in that chain, apparently). According to the poster, 60GB PS3s ran out about 9.30pm.

So its already selling in Japan? What do reports say overally? Is it outsold?

Only a few places have been selling them early. It's only 12.44am there, most places won't start selling till 7am or 8am. Large queues are being reported in various places..I think that it'll sell out is guaranteed given the launch quantities.

Play Asia just has them in stock (20gb model at least). Not too much demand, I suppose.

Not too much demand? "Officially" it will be sold later, but some stores started selling them earlier, I'll be damned if all the units that are shipped won't be sold out by tomorrow.

Someone on GAF has had their 60GB Playasia order ship. It's not surprising if they have the 20GB in stock, though, as their import market is severely curtailed with the European restrictions, and the price difference between their 60GB and 20GB models was a bit out of proportion on top of that.

Apparently there's about 1,000 people at the Yodobashi store in Akihabara now, according to 2ch posters.
