One of the most epic trailers I have seen. Really very good. The action, the graphics, the scale, and the music are top notch. Kudos to Sony Santa Monica!.

And can you imagine playing it yourself? Crazy it's real-time. Doesn't look amazingly impressive in screenshots, but the trailer was just...

The game looks amazing in motion, but some of the screens that show off the environments outside of the forest look very average in terms of texturing.
The lighting setup in some areas looks unfinished as well.
But the trailer is apparently from an older build, so I'm pretty excited to see what this game will look like with updated textures and environment lighting.
In any case, even its current, unpolished state, the game is immensely impressive when in motion.

Looking at some of the interviews, it seems that the GOW III engine has been in development since 2005.

Maybe warcrow can explain to us why every single preview fails to give us a definitive answer on frame rate and resolution.
I would think that the refresh rate in a fast paced action game is considerably more important than the number of polygons in Kratos' character model!
Not to mention the Santa Monica's philosophy on the previous GOW games was 60 fps.

G4TV claims the game "didnt appear to be 60 fps" at Santa Monica's internal presentation, but I'm not taking their word as law. The animations and "gameplay" in the new trailer seems entirely too smooth for "30 fps locked" or "30 fps with drops."

Still, if it does turn out to be 30 fps, I admit, I'll be pretty pissed. Downgrading GOW to a 30 fps action title would be a serious F-you to the fans of the franchise.

The animation in that trailer is consistent with 30fps to my eyes. Also I'm not really sure why so many people are oohing and aahing over the visuals in that trailer as it didn't look that impressive. Looks nice but nothing jaw dropping like the marketing suits make it out to be. Lighting looks pretty flat throughout most of that trailer and the textures look "dirty/muddy".

So what exactly is wrong about a game that is easy to play, flashy, and exciting?

That said, QTE's are in place to let ME be a part of a cutscene. Folks act like QTE's are there to replace the combat, and I've never once felt that in a GoW game.

You kill the enemy, and you get a QTE, so instead of just giving you a death animation or something, you get to be a part of it. It's far more visceral than just watching it, so IMO, all the hate for them is simply unjust. Feels more like Elite gamers being Elite gamers than it does an honest complaint.

I never said it was a bad game, I took issue with whoever was making the gameplay out to be the best thing since sliced bread.

I dislike the QTE's that are part of normal gameplay, ie not boss fights. eg. when the only way to kill an enemy is by going through a QTE.

With regards to the screens on that site. The graphics are looking better than the reveal trailer. Is it still running in 1080p native?

warcrow, what do you mean by having the entire Medusa level in the palm of a Titan ? Are they going to let people play in the Titan's palm ? :-|

I watched the trailer, but I was kind of confused.

Which part is actual gameplay?

Other than the Cyclops battle, it seemed to be an odd point of view to actually play the game in compared to the previous iterations.

Kratos looks awesome and badass as usual!

I'm offended by your suggestion that people found that footage impressive for illegitimate reasons.
I'm not sure what big budget third person action games you've played on your console(s), but I've played 'em all, and that GOW III footage is genuinely impressive, particularly in light of the current competition.
I agree that the texturing, particle effects and lighting setups are looking fairly average (but so what? the game probably isnt even in alpha stage!), but the animation (and its smoothness) and creature modelling is excellent, especially when looked at in the context of the scale apparent in that trailer.
This game is probably a 2010 title and it's already boasting very competitive tech, so I'd say myself and others have every right to be impressed.

HOLY GOD! that trailer gave me the goosebumps..! Is it confirmed yet that everything was all realtime gameplay? How was it possible to blend gameplay with those mountain sized titans in the end? I am so floored right now and apparently the trailer isn't even the best part. Interesting though the still shots don't look all that, but in motion it easily hangs with the best of them.

So you found it jaw dropping impressive because the texturing, particle effects and lighting is average? Animation is smooth so what? In this day and age do you expect choppy animatiion? I can name a couple games in the same genre that are more impressive but I'll save that for another forum.

Where is the mountain-sized Titan ? I can only see the cyclops and some huge falling rocks.

Have a slower look at the end as the camera pans back.

And to those who are arguing about what is impressive... please just drop it and agree to disagree. The discussion is not going anywhere good.

Ah I see them now. So those are Titans scaling mount Olympus at the end ?

The game has some imagination. Hopefully they show more gameplay next time.

The Titan is what Kratos has been fighting on for the entire trailer. It's an ambulatory level with, according to the interview on X-Play today, its own AI.
