Well, I've played the series on PS2 and PSP, and while good, is not that impressive except in regards to graphics and perhaps story.

The combat gameplay is not as thrilling or deep as certain Japanese action games, and IMO having QTE's everywhere in a game are a step back rather than a step forward for gameplay.

It is probably the best Western action game though, and has strengths in areas other that gameplay.
The combat system in the first GoW wasn't very deep, especially compared to Japanese action games like DMC3. But the second was pretty deep. Still not as deep as DMC, but I enjoyed the second far more than the first. It was longer, had a better combat system, better visuals, and the same great story telling. Both games lacked replay value, but at least the second one was decently long. I'm a pretty big fan of third-person action games, and I would rank GoW2 up there with the best of them. DMC3 is still my favorite action game, quite possibly my favorite game of all time.

That's not exactly what I was getting at.

But yes DMC has a more depth in combat gameplay.

I think what makes GOW so successfull is it's competence in other areas like story, presentation, camera (though it's scripted) and the lack of Japanese bizarreness or melodrama.

From what I get from your posts, you're saying the gameplay wasn't great because the combat wasn't very deep for an action game, and it appealed to many simply because it was so easy to 'pick up and play'. Coming from someone who prefers a deep combat system and loves action games, I agree. But that's probably why GoW is more successful than more hardcore action games like DMC or NG, because it's a lot easier to pull off combos and it's not so 'hardcore'. But the GoW games are excellent in their own right - good gameplay, good graphics, great story, the main character is bad ass, and yes, there are those mini sex games.

That's what I meant, they are very good at everything else while having fun, accessible gameplay with gimmicks like the sex minigames, and the over the top protagonist and violence.
It's a recipe for sales success.

So what exactly is wrong about a game that is easy to play, flashy, and exciting?

That said, QTE's are in place to let ME be a part of a cutscene. Folks act like QTE's are there to replace the combat, and I've never once felt that in a GoW game.

You kill the enemy, and you get a QTE, so instead of just giving you a death animation or something, you get to be a part of it. It's far more visceral than just watching it, so IMO, all the hate for them is simply unjust. Feels more like Elite gamers being Elite gamers than it does an honest complaint.

Anyone care to email any of these? lol. The United States Army frowns upon videogames, so I can't see a thing, lol.

Direct feed shots.

I haven't played the PS2 games, as far as I've heard they're great and what I've seen from them looked pretty good, but...

...the general quality and feel of these shots remind me of Golden Axe: Beast Rider.

Character models look great, but the same feeling is not being evoked by the environments, I guess. Maybe a great lighting model can save it..............

I tried , but the server is getting hammered, managed to see 2 pictures before "server unavaliabe"

haha, awesome.

From what I can gather from forum impressions of the shots, it looks like a high-res GoW2? That's not necessarily bad to me, so long as the scale and enemy mobs are large enough to create spectacle.

I hear one of the shots has a titan in the background?

Bah, it's eating me up that I can't view these damn pictures and trailers lol.

Though, it always stinks reading hype, not being part of it, and then creating your own expectations in your mind :( I will keep my expectations low and think it looks like a high res GoW2. Then I will be blown away.
