[PS3] God of War III Pre-Release

What's his guy is one of the worst character designs in gaming, right behind that mohawked douche-bag from Mercenaries, but I'm extremely excited for this game. It'll probably push me into the PS3 world, as long as some better clone doesn't come along for my 360, which doesn't seem likely.

I guess you're damned if you do release target renders instead of in-development footage, and damned if you don't ;)

Seriously though, it looks good. I doubt they've demonstrated the absolute scale of the world in the first trailer with a year to release.

You know you don't have to play the game, right? GoW 1 and 2 had QTEs and were generally well-liked. If you didn't like GoW 1/2 because of the QTEs, spare yourself the suffering and the money and skip this one too. Let those who enjoyed the formula from the previous games enjoy this one too.

I have a year plus to see how the gameplay has changed and decide for myself. Where am I stopping anyone from enjoying anything? I'm simply stating what *I* want from the game. Have I once said someone is wrong with those wanting QTE's?

Wasn't as blown away (actually wasn't impressed at all truthfully) as I wanted to be, but again, thats my own fault for getting all excited about the next installment in a franchise I love and for daring to (stupidly) believe in the hype monkey. Hopefully we'll see this supposed newer stuff and my confidence will be restored. I want Aeryn back as well ;)

TheBlackLodge: You'll probably be taking all of that back in the coming months.

I can only hope. It's a huge title for me. Given the rest.....

Edit: In fact no...........Having read Shiftys previous post and given a comment I made in a PM response to a Mod I'm not even going to bother with what I was going to say........

Honestly, though, do we know anything besides this game other than that Kratos is really angry and he's gonna kill lots of folks? Oh, and harpy breasts.

I think it looks completely fantastic! It is exactly what I want from a next gen GOW3.

So much detail in every frame, epic sense of scale, lots of enemies on screen at the same time. The graphics look really really good to me. And the animation even better.

Gameplay please !

With that face, I can't get too excited about the visuals :p ...unless they have beautiful women and sceneries in the game.

It looks impressive, i've just never been into this game. Will look to see what it looks like on release though.

This trailer sucks indeed. Shows nothing at all, no gameplay, no story, no epicness.
I hope they cut back on the QTE.
Yes, yes, they should also gimp the story, add nimpos, a lot of backtracking, unimaginative enemies and immature humor.
Not only are they boring but they're just there for the "wow" effect. Since the pass/fail sequences in QTE's are heavily scripted they can pump up the visuals. Ofcourse when you're back to fighting regular people they graphics come back down accordingly.
Let me get this straight.
If QTEs were not boring (ie neutral fun factor), we would still not want them because they make the game look better?
Seriously?

GoWs have the best QTEs by far. I only want them to remove repeated single button torture.

edit: so much gfx talk I see. No worries. It will most likely be a strong best graphics contender in its framerate.

I can't agree on this based on the psp one. I hated the quick time events in it. I hate quick time events. The one where you had to push someone off you was the most rediculous thing i've ever seen in a game though.

I loved what I percieve as the Epic-ness of that trailer. I mean, I wish there was an epic 'backdrop' maybe like Athens in God of War 1 or the horse-bit in God of War 2, but the voice acting and music were superb and have got me super-hyped. I'm going to get around to playing Chains of Olympus soon.

Also, graphically this is tied with Uncharted 2 in my eyes, a fair way ahead of everything on consoles but Killzone 2, which they're both a fair way behind (because IMO KZ2 is much more than a fair way ahead of the competition).

It looks good in gameplay terms (what we expect out of a worth franchise installment), but that graphics style obviously does not work.

It looks very "iD Tech 4+" ish, you know... unlike Heavenly Sword which I really adored, or MGS4/KZ2. Specular needs to go down a lot, bloom needs to be moderated, and for goodness sakes please try to get textures up to task.

I'm sorry, but when it comes to graphics, the big picture outweighs the technical intricacies by a far lot. The muscle system is nice, but I'd have to question its real contribution to animation if it taxes the PS3 a lot.

Still, they have 1 more year and KZ2 went from "ugh" to "Hey, this is kinda nice!" in 1.5 years, so you never know.

I agree, the QTE's that required use of the analog nub were the most annoying (due to the nature of the hardware). They are also artificial, especially when you have to rinse and repeat them 4 times in a row to kill a boss.

And the purpose of allowing the player to participate in a over the top kill animation, is somewhat diluted by the fact you have to closely watch for the button icons, making it hard to watch the actual animation.

I agree that at the moment it doesn't look as good as Heavenly Sword. And I don't ever remember KZ2 looking bad (unless it was a pic of the ground or something). If anything Sony games tend to look as good if not better at the first showing, than in the final release (ie KZ3 E3 trailer, MGS4 etc).

I hope Jaffe's latest comments, that this wasn't the $#@%% etc footage he watched are true, (his enthusiasm is unsettling though).

PS: With regards to Sony PR claim that the game will have 4 times the texture resolution of GoW2 (http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2008/12/god_of_war_3_will_have_four_times_the_texture_resolution-2.html#more
Is that really that impressive? I would think it' more taken for granted... considering the PS2 had only 32mb of memory, and the pulled back camera allowed them to get away with lower resolution textures than normal.

I do remember a batch of first KZ2 screens that looked particularly "ugh". ;)
Nope. There was one screenshot released early that was highly debated (=more than most games get ever) over the interwebs, equally represented with "zomg" as "lol", then no less than a day later new screens brought near unanimous "zomg', and an hour later the trailer was released. After that, well....
