...unless your idea of a 60 frames per second game is one that is consistently not 60 frames per second.

All 60Hz games out there, excluding fighters, including the biggest game of 2009 (MW2) are like that. Unless developers go the route of simplifying visuals and having an arena style layout like Dante's Inferno with a fixed camera, you're never going to get consistent 60Hz that never misses a beat. Even the GOW 1&2 emulations drop in areas on the PS3.

The demo had an extremely finicky frame rate, so no, its age isn't irrelevant in regards to overall consistency in any area (visuals fidelity or frame rate). Sure, it won't be 60Hz all the time, but much better than the typically 30Hz found in the demo.

I have seen some people made the same claim elsewhere. Regardless, what exactly is Hades ? An octopus in a horned helmet ? I can't see his facial features.

what exactly is Hades?
well I instantly think of the underworld
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hades
with the crimea guarding, which is also a greek myth but if as I understand in this game 'hades' is a character, pffft great yes rewrite the myth ( I cant see the appeal to this game it just seems to goto place X + then press buttons as quick as possible i.e. button mashing, yes graphics were technically brilliant on the ps2) tangent remark - oddly enuf there have been bugger all games in gaming history based on greek mythology (I can think of one arcade game in the 80s) but strange why this theater hasnt been explored more, like say WW2 which has had X numbers of games (+is a lot more boring to boot)

in saying that,
it certainly is not the standout that GOW1,2 were (graphics wise) + it looks like theyre mixing roman with greek mythology (which is a wankish geeky observation)
graphically this is just mediocre

actually looking at again an hour later squniting (after a few drinks) at a distance it is like an 'artwork', but it could just be a lucky screenshot

I genuinely disagree, IMO it's easily amongst the best. But if you'll be kind enough to enlighten me about your standard of above average or impressive in graphics, just so I can draw some correlation to your statement please.

Are you for real? :???:

hey, hey easy there...the first version of the pic I saw was a rather small version of the one posted in this thread, and looking at this small pic and all the others: I was not sure, but certainly I am now (after ultragpu inserted the pic in his post) and don't forget to read all posts:

Ah, yes...you (=ultragpu*) are right (take a look at the silhouette of Krato's head reveals it)...looks just outstanding to me!!

*edited by the author for claryfication

But even you cannot deny that it looks like a painting come to life :p

ha, you should play the former GOW games (especially 2, where you see Hades and the other members of the gang
in the final cutscene
)
In GOW 2, he looks like a rather plump normal husband...er, with a horned helmet and some hornets out of his body.

In GOW 3, look at this

or look at this cool compilation

Found a YouTube video of GoW2 Hades here:
The video may be spoilerific.

He's a big man wearing a horned helmet, and impaled with spikes. Can't see his face.

Hades is pretty powerful in GOW2, he can pretty much take down a Titan single handedly even though being about half of their size. If you look at his helmet, it bears strong similarity to a jail with all the steel bars and the burning face acts like a purgatory for tall the souls trapped inside and the protruding spikes from his body are like eternal pain and suffering.
I predict Kratos would have to rip all the spikes off and pulling off the flesh, spilling guts and intestines along the way, then somehow dismount the helmet and finally digging his Athena's blades deeply inside the burning core to release all the souls. The defeated Hades would look like a pile of unrecognized mess slowly incinerate himself into ashes.

Also, surfaces seem to be pretty low res. Reminds me of Ninja Gaiden.

You're certainly alone with this statement. Though it's certainly flattering to the mediocre looking NG games this hardware gen (strictly speaking of texture res/quality)

I can, because it doesn't. It's just a dark screenshot.

Maybe your eye's are low res. Surfaces look fine and comparable to a lot of Next Generation title, Ninja Gaiden not being one of them.
