The hard core people are the ones who give a crap about 60 fps with vsync, casual games don't care if it's 30fps as long as framerate is stable enough. Self-shadowing was a last-gen feature, it's ridiculous that a team that is purported to be talented like Santa Monica can't get self-shadowing on enemy characters to work.

Wait a minute, but the game coming in march 2010? So?

Just name me one game that's running 60fps at 720P with 2 x MSAA, V-Sync, and HDR lighting.

GOW3 supposed to feature 50+ enemies on screen, you rarely see a game that does shadow on so many characters, let alone the self-shadow ;)

Doesn't GT5p do that already?

Uncharted 2 does 720p with 2xMSAA, self-shadowing, rain, properly reflective/refractive water, HDR lighting with no tearing, obviously doesn't have to be 60fps because there's no real point since action-shooters are more than playable at 30fps.

The God of War 3 demo does not feature 50+ enemies. MAG, given the crazy player count, still features self-shadowing on characters and vehicles/environments.

GT5P's not V-synced, even a game like Uncharted 2 (720p, 2xMSAA, HDR, V-Sync) is a rarity let alone GOW3 in this console generation.

GOW3 demo did feature around 20 enemies (50+ enemies was mentioned by one of the dev) as for the MAG, the game's got no AA, no V-Sync, and is running at 30 fps. Also it's not like you will see all 128 enemies in one screen, at most you'd be seeing maybe around 10.

GOW3 isn't going to be v-synced either, the demo had maybe a dozen enemies on screen so it isn't like they can't put self-shadowing in, DMC4 had it, Bayonetta has it, God of War 3 is being touted as this visual masterpiece, it's odd that it's missing graphical features.

GOW3 is v-synced based on the demo build shown at E3, and DMC4 didn't have self-shadow. No self-shadow even on the main character. Also DMC4's got fewer enemies on screen. Not sure about Bayonetta, but the game's not v-synced, no AA either.

DMC4 certainly has self-shadowing, on the main characters as well as on regular enemies, not sure where you got the idea that Bayonetta doesn't have AA.

Really? REALLY!?

NBA 05 with 10 people on stage, a bunch of Low poly side line players, and 2D crowd?

Yes, but on a PS2!!!! Besides, plenty of other games that where graphically complex that also featured this, on the PS2 and xbox.

Self-shadowing can be done rather cheaply, if a 20 times slower console could do it 5 years ago, implementing atleast some cheap half method should not be very taxing...

Thought from where im looking its looks like gow 3 has selfshadowing. Atleast on kraetos.

 .... however it isn't totally missing self shadowing and the game, well...it isn't finished yet...

Sorry but where you got the idea that Bayonetta have surely AA ? Unreal engine rarely have that....

Only on Kratos and helios so far and no other enemies.

BTW, I just double-checked with DMC4 on my PS3 about the self-shadow. There's none in game, other than the ones from the cut-scenes

If you could provide any evidence to prove otherwise, I'd be very interested to have a look ;)

I think it's somewhat understandable if they don't put selfshadowing on the grunts, no one is gonna notice it when 50 of them are rushing at you. Though selfshadowing on Cyclops, the Chimera or centuar would definitely improve the overall visual impact. Are they still shooting for a 1080p native experience?

Nope...they never actually persuaded the impossible.
It was always 720p with 2*AA.

And yes even I think that Self shadowing on Grunts is useless but it'll be good to have it on the more special types of enemies.

The director guy did mention about the 1080p support in an interview with gamespot, but I think he's just talking about upscaling as he mentioned about 1080i support as well.

if that's the case there should be more reason to include the SS and it's only a matter of time when the dudes from ND walke into their office and drop some ninja codes and have it all running.
