[PS3] Demon Souls

Yes I´m in the tower of lantria but only to farm those spice drops and get some souls... once I think I have enough I will go to kill that dragon in the starting world after where I killed the phalanx :)

I wish I had played this two years ago, maybe would have liked the graphics more back then. Now I get to play this right after playing crysis 2 and uncharted 2 and it feels almost like a Playstation 2 game :D

You know you can kill that dragon
with a bow from the top of the first tower, right?
;)

Best game of this gen IMHO.

The red dragon is easy to take down. It can't harm you once you crossed the bridge. Just use a bow and tons of arrows to shoot it down.

Best game of this gen IMHO.

I concur. It managed to make other games feel less engaging.

Boy, is this game tough ! :D !

I chose to be a wanderer ! i dunno much about RPGs so I coudln't understand what all those stats would mean finally, so I chose what I felt I will be in this land, : A Wanderer !

I am at the Boletarian Palace, have died I dunno , maybe 5 times or so ! Does this game have no checkpoints at all??!?!? I managed to reach till that Knight with full armor and blue light for eyes ! Killed him and enetered the fog/gate next tohim only to get killed by a guy who threw a fire bomb and there were barrels all around me :( !!! I died in one hit and back to the beginning of the level :( !

My save game says I have played for 1:44 hrs, and I haven't got to a chkpoint!! or are there none ?

Also, I founf something called the a "Soldier's Lotus" ! How do iuse it, it doesn't appear when I try to change my equipment !

BTW< I am a total Noob at RPGs :p ! The only time I seriously managed stuff inside a game was STALKER, and Man that was awesome !

I was hoping someone who has actually beaten the game would answer this. Because I not sure how well my experience holds up in levels I haven't played.

There aren't any checkpoints, you can only teleport back to the start of whole levels. You can however open up shortcuts for yourself, allowing you to get back where you left off faster. There should already be a shortcut available to you if you've opened it up.
Instead of entering the mist, follow the castle wall, and go down the tower at the end.

I don't know how to use Soldier's Lotus either.

This site should be helpful as well. http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/home

You know whats Funny : This game keeps telling me "You Died !" when I am already dead and looking for my body. So , how come I die again  ! Also, even though I have lost my physical body on death, I leave blood stains when I die (again) ! So, basically my soul is another physical body? Only difference being it can respawn on "death" !

I decided to give Demon's Souls another chance. Provided I could figure out a way to get around the problems I kept running into. I had previously wanted to make a great melee fighter, with all my stats improved towards that.

I hadn't bought any magic spells. So I bought the weakest one, and with only my starting magic stats I decided to try it on some enemies. First on the weakest enemies. It kills them with one blow, which is nice, but nothing my sword can't do. Then on the more difficult enemies. One blow takes away 80 to 90% of their health. My sword, which I have spend hours trying to upgrade, definitely can't do this. And finally on an enemy that'll probably kill me. I does moderate damage, similar to my sword, and I'm killed.

I'll probably get more difficult again later on, but for now it feels very un-characteristically of DS. Spamming magic every where, and killing enemies before they have a chance to hurt me. So lesson learned, don't make specialised characters in DS.

Dude, that's what I have been saying ! It's not a hard game if you go ranged weapon/magic. You can cheese almost all the bosses. :)

But if you want some challenge, go melee. I did that selectively. Armor is not so useful for melee. Agility is.

And then of course, there are invading *ssholes, who are really another breed of monsters. :devilish:

Which world are you in now ?
I'll invade your world.

Yeah, but it's a hell of a lot more boring that way. The melee combat is a great mechanic, and a lot of fun to use. At least when your not standing on narrow walk ways. I'm still going to try melee at first, and save the magic for use against other magic user or ranged targets. It feels like I'm being handed my victory otherwise.

Hopefully Dark Souls can strike a better balance between melee and magic.

I'm still very early on in the game. Either the first or second level in each of the worlds.

Yap. If you have time, try melee first. Fallback on ranged attack when you give up. There is always NG+.

Hopefully Dark Souls can strike a better balance between melee and magic.

For people who cheeze the game, the invading and in-game black phantoms will usually kick their butt. That's why it's so frightening when someone invaded me for the first time. I clearly wasn't prepared for melee psychologically and skills-wise. It's like a nasty pop-quiz.

Have you been invaded ?

No, not yet. The guide keeps telling me to kill myself in the Nexus as soon as I get my body back, so as not to shift the world tendency towards black. I've been ignoring that, but getting yourself killed in a new level is quite easy. I haven't really given others much of a chance to invade my game. And the guide says I'll most likely be invaded when I'm around soul level 80 to 140. Which is still far removed from the soul level 29 I'm at.

Aren't there any good boss fights in this game? I keep getting fights that can either be won the incredibly easy way, which is boring, or the hard way where I'm constantly at risk of being one hit killed.
I hope the can strike a better balance in ways to kill bosses in Dark Souls.

I just killed Yurt. I had him bleed to death, which is ironic since he tries to do the same thing, and I wanted his armor because it offers such good protection to it. That, and it looks really cool with my dual Uchigatana's.

Which world have you not explored yet ?

I like the fact that most of the bosses can be defeated if you want to take the easy way out though. :devilish: I have a feeling they will close this hole in Dark Souls.

It also depends on whether you have leveled up enough. The bosses will not one-hit kill you if you have enough health. The only exception is the Dragon God I think.

For me, the ones that are fun for toe-to-toe fight are:
* Maneater
* Flamelurker
* Monk
* The boss knight in world 5
* The optional NPC Black Phantoms
* The Black Skeleton behind the hidden wall in world 4-2

I am too scared to fight the 1-2 boss (Tower Knight) up close.

The Penetrator fight looks intense but I took the wrong sword to the fight. I used Northern Regalia which has a very wide swing. I killed the Demon but also hurt the Twin Fang dude. So he chased after me every time I passed by that corridor.

EDIT: I also took Yurt's armor, mainly for the poison resistance and the look.

EDIT 2: Wait till a human Black Phantom bleed you and prolong the fight. :(

I've had this game for a few weeks, and can't wait to dive into it, loved what little I played so far (before losing all my souls. :p)

Just want to finish off a couple more games in my backlog before committing to this.

Which world have you not explored yet ?

I'm in all the second levels of the worlds, except for world 5.
Which is where Yurt's armor should come in handy.
Looks like I'll have some good fights still ahead of me.

Edit:
I just fought that Black Skeleton in 4-2. Almost got him last time. It's nice that he's so close to the Archstone. I'll need to kill him to farm Blade Stone's

EDIT 2: Wait till a human Black Phantom bleed you and prolong the fight. :(

And with my current equipment I'll probably try the same thing. I love to use the katana's.

Finally beat the Flamelurker. This was the boss I quit Demon's Souls on last time.
Now the fight went surprisingly well using the right equipment. Weaker armour that let's me move around faster, and a Moon Uchigatana +2. I didn't have use magic. (Because I forgot to bring Water Veil.)

Yeah... using the right equipment is crucial.

I beat it using Soul Arrow and a proper shield.

Now try Maneater ! :devilish:

I was planning to
try and kill the Dragon God next. That should put world 2 at pure white world tendency, and do those tendency events. After that I'll try to get summoned as a blue phantom, and try to defeat the Flamelurker again to win my body back. Then see if I'll be invaded. I can defeat the invader,, and if he kills me it'll shift the world tendency towards black again. And I can do the pure black world tendency events if I die often enough.
