Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

The rumoured specs were apparently for a Wii U style dumb tablet. The development of Windows tablets doesn't add credence to this rumour.

Maybe it could, I don't know. I don't know if it's a logical choice or not, it's their money to toy with. but i mean who gave them the idea to make smart glass and tablets in the first place? who gave them the idea of avatars and putting them in windows 8?

they all make products within the same company, so who's to say that their divisions aren't thinking of it.

If Blikian was still around he would be laughing his ass off at these specs.

They're designed to be ridiculous at almost every line (does it say tablet has two hours of battery life?)
Just one thing, memory frequency for the GPU is said to be 795MHz but current vid cards have 1250 to 1500MHz.

Tablets are ancient too, they had a version of Windows 3.1 for them (Windows for pen computing). What's pretty recent is successful tablets, with features such as color, wifi, USB instead of RS232, 8GB flash rather than 16MB or something, and the multitouch screens as well.

Just found this: A japanese company have shown a system that can test individual dies before stacking them, and test individual stacks before putting them on interposers. I think that solves the yield problem (if the tester is available soon enough).

Well it was shown in June 2012 this could certainly come into force before or slightly after the launch of the next gen consoles. Even if they aren't ready in time for mass production they could still use the technology as part of a strategy to move quickly towards profitability given the likely use of relatively bleeding edge technology which ought to come down in price very quickly.

I'm not dead yet! :)

Dead? Who is dying? :p

Three's no correlation between the Wii U model and the tablet computing model, other than Nintendo bringing tablet tech to the console. MS were going to make a tablet regardless of what console anyone else brought out.

Tablets are old. Attempts were made in the 1990s and 2000s, but the tech wasn't up to it. iPad was a superb execution, but it wasn't the originator of the concept.

That's immaterial to the rumour. That is, because MS is making touch devices, that doesn't mean that the console division would also make a touch device and ergo that these specs are true because they have a Wii U style touch controller. The rumour is clearly a wholesale copy of Wii U with a server instead of a console.

New AMD roadmap. Jaguars make an appearance, and Steamroller is delayed

What I like is that Kabini / jaguar may offer some HSA functionality.
If there is way to achieve close to memory coherency between the CPU and the GPU it could make things easier if one were to connect two APUs through a proper link, right?

Going back to the 7" Xbox Surface tablet for second. It doesn't make sense to include the kickstand built-in or the Windows RT OS. So is it possible that the device could have other features that make it stand out as a gaming & media device? Is it possible that it could have some exclusive Smartglass integration? Or some interaction with Xbox Kinect? Maybe it has a Kinect-like camera in it that allows some motion sensing capabilities similar to Wii U? Maybe it can do some fancy hand motion recognition? Or maybe it has a touch sensitive back cover similar to Vita? Just throwing some ideas out there. If Microsoft just made a 7" version of their Surface tablet & stuck the Xbox name on it & then didn't let you download Windows RT apps, then I think it would get a very big yawn. If they're going to be putting the Xbox name on it then they need to be doing something innovative with it. A Kindle Fire inspired front-end would be cool, but I don't think that would be enough unless it's really cheap($200).

duly noted, though the idea of a portable xbox tablet isn't far out unless Ms declares no interests in the endeavor. so far they remain in the typical quiet state as always.

My thoughts as well, and i don't see why not it's a free enterprise, open to all sorts of combinations and offshoots. though my guess would be, IF ms decides to make such a venture it should be worth it and compelling as is to compete.

IMO, to be able to play all of xbox and xbox 360's line up on the device via xbla would be IT's selling reason for being on the market.

It's also possible that the supposed "leak" :)roll:) is just some Xbot fanboi fantasy, and MS has no intention of doing an Xbox branded tablet, when it would most likely be more lucrative for them to push XBL integration with all Windows RT tabs and Windows Phones.

3DS and Vita are admittedly proving that gaming focussed handheld HW isn't sexy enough to sway the attention of the mainstream consumer. What obvious to me is that MS will never again do anything unless they can target and potentially capture the largest possible audience ;-)

OT but not that ot:

About Sony subsidizing power and ability to raise fund. They perform badly whats whatever tey have as "treasure" might make them more money than their business, the financialsd at Sony have to be really wary about touching that treasury if it involves too much risks or the return are lesser than the expected returns of the aforementioned "treasure".
Raising money as I suspected could prove expansive.

At least Sony is in better shape than Panasonic and Sharp..lol.

I'd be worried if the gaming division was unimportant to them, but it's the opposite, they're betting the farm on it.
They have already spent around 5 billion in capex so far in 2012, it's not like they stopped investing and growing. The recent restructuring seems to be working.
